  1. I did ask about some Stevenson kits in April 2021. I got a very quick and positive reply saying the ones I wanted were on order and would be a couple of weeks and gave a price. I replied saying that was fine and requested they let me know when in stock. I followed up a couple of times after a few weeks, then  a couple of months with no response.

Fortunately I found what I wanted elsewhere.

First proper bit of modelling since i think late November.

    Fitted the footsteps to 41900.20240218_162700.jpg.53432a93e98782c64f7413abc4969ec0.jpg

Got a magnifier for some tasks now, but now getting dull, time to finish.

Great day today, sunny, got my new distance glasses, best i have seen right eyed for a few years. Left is all over the place, from good, to hardly usable. At least focus is ok.

Still getting headlamp starbursts  so that was not fully cataracts. Will find out more end of March, if i need to re referred.

Had my bi-annual test today. Turns out things are a bit fuzzy as my prescription has actually reduced a little bit. In theory that's a good thing but in practice I still need to buy new specs! Just for good measure my stigmatism (Is that what it's called) has apparently gone for a wander and is "the other side" now whatever that means!

Would that not need to be done further away from the public though?

Not necessarily. It's preferable to do so but there's no rule against it as such, as long as regular leak monitoring is being carried out if it's a live enclosure.

In the meantime, the last time I was there they were doing something with the 31 in the Great Hall that involved parking it over the inspection pit completely sealed up with  polythene sheets and gaffer tape.

It seemed unnecessarily unkind to mention to the Explainer that it was a shame they didn't have some sort of workshop where this sort of thing could be done.

Wonder if they were having some asbestos removed?

Given that postal orders no longer exist AFAIK and the vast majority don’t have cheque accounts, electronic means of some kind for payment are needed. I see you can now order online, and then pay via credit/debit card, BACS, or PayPal, following an invoice, so it seems Squires are covering these problems. Given the vast range of small bits and pieces they stock perhaps this is more managable for them if they don’t have the resources to be able to generate and maintain a ‘live’ stock level system. This also seems preferable to me than ordering and paying from e-commerce sites that don’t have current stock levels where items are o/s which then gets frustrating and annoying if available elsewhere.

You can still get Postal Orders, but only up to £250 which doesn't go far these days.

The Markits wheels situation appears to lie with Markits supply. Roxey Mouldings website shows a similar picture.

Not an unusual situation sadly. Although I did receive some backordered bits from Dave a week or so ago.

Didn't know the GWR used telephone pole cable insulators for rail as well... I've got three of them at home complete with a length of copper phone wire attached

ALL IN GOOD CONDITION WITH NO CRACKS. SOME HAVE BLACK STAINAGE.

PLEASE STATE WHICH ONE YOUR PREFER. WITH BLACK STAINAGE OR WITH OUT.

IN MY OPINION THE ONES WITH BLACK STAINAGE, LOOK BEST, AS THEY LOOKED USED.

Or, we want you to buy the manky ones so we can finally get rid of them?

  8. I think this one comes under "patience is a virtue".

3 or 4 years ago I picked up a Martin Finney LNER 1928 corridor tender for £50.

Today I picked up an A4 to go with it for £160.

Current (not unreasonable for the quality) price from Brassmasters is £290.

Thanks, it would be nice if the supplier would let people in on the secret on their web page. I've come across other model railway sites which omit to let potential purchasers know what scale they are catering for. I's just common sense to let people know what the product specifications are isn't it?.

I'm kind of with you on that - I think I'm the reason that the Invertrains site now says all items are 7mm! From what I remember, a web search took me directly to some buffers, and as they are VERY reasonably priced for 7mm I didn't realise....

Oh, you diesel types! It's all so complicated, isn't it?!

The GW/BR(W) had the right idea - keep the numbers exactly as they were...! 😉😉😁

Only because of the delusions of grandeur with the cast numberplates!
