As another who grew up in Calne in the 40's - 50's and several of my family in the 'porker' business either as farmers or in the bacon factories. one of my uncles was involved in the Redruth factory of Harris's, before returning to Chippenham. As they were making sausages in Redruth - they wouldn't be sending them to Cornwall from Calne. 'Coals to Newcastle' using the wrong metaphor!

  2. i was so busy working on the 'proper' chocolate and cream coaches that I hadn't realised Jerry had posted the pictures of the Pines in South Devon. After all LMS stock regularly worked to Plymouth and Penzance, including an ex LNWR 12 wheel diner on alternate days in an otherwise GWR formation.  Which makes me wonder what arrangements there were between the GWR and LNWR in pre-grouping days with regards to the North to West service. As Ivybridge is set in the later 1930's I haven't delved into stock working outside  that period.
