Thanks Jerry and Jim for your replies. Jim thanks for the link definitely food for thought..

sounds like a nice project. The southern engines seem to have an appealing charm to them especially the tank engines. I have a couple lf questions for you though, will there be a point in the scenic area and what will be the wider setting of the layout (ie: urban, rural, industrial) ?
Luke by point do you mean a left or right in which case I'm thinking of using a left hand point and the scenery of the layout will be some grassy mounds along with a good yard them where coal, mineral and wood would have been used. I may also put a platform in of some kind..

First of all my layout is 4'in length and 8"in width and will be in oo gauge. The layout will have a fiddle yard and and two sidings long enough for a Bachmann Class E4 steam loco with late crest and three or four wagons. I will be using peco code 100 setrack which will have the usual ballast and ground cover. I'm hoping this sounds ok and I will be starting on the base at the weekend..

Evening Mike you have achieved some really lovely modelling and also capturing the atmosphere of the beer house..

Luke this is a splendid 009 micro layout and it's great to see your layout on its travels..

Thanks for all the replies all most helpful and I'm going to look out for the Hornby rolling rail with power track fitted.

Hi Pete I have seen the Hornby rolling rail on eBay and it has power track and controller with it. Thanks for your input.

Hi Pete I model in oo gauge.

Is there such a thing as a rolling road for running locos on. The reason why I am asking is because I have very limited space in my new house to plan a layout. So I was thinking along the lines of having my locos running on a rolling road. And how does a rolling road work. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi and thanks for replying to my question will go and crush some coal now.
-
I'm thinking about using real coal in my coal wagons and on my layout. If its broken down small will this work.

Try either games workshop or try your local boyes store as I always seem to find the paints I'm looking for.

A definite for style 2 great work.

Also watched this program the other night absolute chaos within our rail network, also chose not to enter the competition but really enjoyed the program.

Neil that's a great idea of making plants will definitely be giving this a try, your flower pots and baskets look fantastic.

A little more information, please. Are you using bulbs or LEDs ? As far as I am aware the only output is the controlled one, so your lamp brightness, whichever sort, will vary with the train speed !!
The street lamps will be LEDs.

I use a Hornby R965 DC controller on my shelf layout but want to add one or two working lamps can I use lamps with the controller I have by attaching them to the terminals on the controller.

Thanks Londontram this will help me a great deal.

Hi APOLLO thanks for all the links I will be looking through them later tonight to gain more ideas.

I do the majority of my model rail shopping with trackshack as they are brilliant all round fast postage and great communication and customer service.

I'm going to build my own coal staith and will be using wood coffee stiring sticks, I'm wanting to keep it within scale as my layout is oo gauge so I'm wanting to know what height the staith should be, any advice will be great.
