Yep, we're not going to change it for the plated brass style, we've standardised on this finish and we're happy with how it looks. Same for Lion's firebox shroud and the O1.

A pity, I'm very much in the painted camp. Please don't make the same mistake as Hornby did with the H, plated dome and painted safety valve shroud definitely detracts from the overall look, really does need to be the same for both.

  2. Just a quick question for those in the know, when I placed the pre-order for SKU936005 back in August last year the listed identity was 110, I've only just spotted that this has been changed to B96. As want these days quickly out-strips available spending power I'm having to limit myself to preserved / original condition of preserved examples and was wondering if there are plans in a future production run for 110 / Burgundy in LBSC livery (W2 on order via the IOW shop).
    Thanks,
    Chris.

I suppose they could always supply a transfer sheet for those 2 pieces of lining for people to add themselves.

Yes it is £200 where as Bachmann's original C was about £80, prices have gone up due to rising increases in China in the approx 10 years since. However the process to make these models and QC have not evolved much since.

These are a bigger proportion of our income. I've long ceased buying stuff just because it looked pretty or unique and only buy things that are well in line with my interests.

Have used HMRS LNER lining 05 for a couple of Maunsell locos, it has two widths of black/white banding on the sheet so if it bothers me that much when it arrives will just apply these.

I have some MK1s also without the cams so I will be going down the Keen Systems route. But I need the return springs doe's anyone know of where i can get some?

Try Hornby X9097, listed for Pullmans but work on others including Dapol/Hornby mag Stove 'R' - only a couple of quid for 10 so not a bank-buster if they don't, got mine from Peter's Spares but other suppliers have them in stock too.

Hmmm I'm a little surprised that they didn't make a preserved model of Stepney from the bluebell. I really need one for my bluebell railway diorama

Perhaps a bigger surprise is that 'Fenchurch' has not made an apprearance 'as preserved' as they have already done it in 7mm, unless they are holding it back for a 150th Birthday special in 2022 (hint hint!!).

  6. Had the same situation as I wanted a fully close-coupled rake and a mix of the two underframe types, my experience was that the bodies are interchangeable between the old and newer underframes, although I cannot rule out that I just got lucky with my choice of donors/recipients.

One group was positively trying not to burst with hints, whilst another preserved line has a pretty significant anniversary next year.. and has a Hornby concession, seemed to be smiling.

If this proves to be the case, would love them to do the O1 (too similar to the C?) but as I currently have a rebuilt BoB being worked on at TMC it'll most likely be 'Sir Archie'

    * the British term (and the term used by manufacturers for models of passenger accommodation) is coaches - not cars. While it may seem prickly, if you are searching the internet for additional vehicles to extend your train then using the correct terminology may help).

Hi Phil, not strictly true - Pullman and London Underground refer to cars rather than coaches (cannot say for other 'metro' systems), and the Southern seemed to use the terms interchangably although IIRC coaches referred mailnly to loco hauled stock and cars were for multiple units. Manufacturers do tend to use the term coaches exclusively though this is sometimes not reflected in 3rd party listings from trade and private sellers.

    Chris.

  9. Thanks Hattons for taking the plunge with these, 6 ordered - had been trying to psych myself up for building a rake of Ratios so you've saved me the embarrassment of wonky joints, glue splodges and an iffy paint job :wacko:

P.S. can I echo the request for some in LB&SCR teak, scumbling is even further from my capabilities :lol:

It looks like the last of the 4 COR kits was sold on the 19th July, but sure they will be relisted when further stock is available. The attached link may work, which is to the last completed listing:

Thanks for that, the kit looks a bit beyond my capabilities - looks like they'll be getting a couple of orders for the rtr.

Just noticed on the Silver Fox ebay shop that they are offering sets of parts to make a Southern/BR southern region 4 COR 'one eyed Nelson'. The cab fronts and underframe parts are resin and the sides are flexible plastic overlays with laser cut glazing. They recommend using Bachmann Bulleid coaches as donor vehicles. This model is not in the Silver Fox website yet.

Do you have the link for this please, my searches aren't turning anything up.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I remember the Gamleys in Sutton. It had a huge (to my child's eyes) model section in the basement.

Sutton also had ELS Models in the precinct under the Eagle Star building at the north end of the High Street, many a happy hour spent there clutching the pocket-money I'd managed not to invest in sweets. Believe it was an offshoot of E. Law & Sons timber merchant (now Champions) when one of the sons wasn't too keen on joining the family business. Not sure when it closed, may have been late 70s or early 80s. They also had quite a good selection of Radio Controlled planes as well if I remember correctly.

    Chris.

  13. I was wondering about that. Either Bachmann did not give Hatton's their (or any of) full fill or they were overbooked on pre-orders (or that had ordered less than they thought). Last week it was there then it was gone. Kernow, Rails, Model railways direct and others still have them as can be seen on their sites.

Got the same e-mail, even though I've already got mine - did make me check to make sure I hadn't ordered two by mistake.

    Chris.

  14. If you have ever tried applying black/yellow lining to a Southern coach you would know why repainting, or just lining one is a daunting task. I tried it once, never again!

Perhaps an opportunity for a 3rd party to produce a full lining overlay / transfer set?

  15. Lovely.

    What a gorgeous livery.

Is it really only appropriate for the preservation era?

I believe so. Just think though, if Sir Nigel had designed them they may have been turned out in garter blue originally!! I think this is the second version of the blue livery it's carried, the original was with SE&CR on the tanks and a brass nameplate.

  16. I "think" that was number 27. I could be wrong though!!!

    Gary

178 came from Bowaters Paper Mill in 1969 IIRC, where it ran as 'Pioneer II' in a quasi SECR lined green livery (lighter green and not quite so complicated lining). It ran as 'Pioneer II' for a short while (albeit with the correct SECR green and lining) when it returned to steam in 2010, 27 and 323 I think came direct from B.R.

  17. Thank-you Hornby, been waiting quite a few years for this - duly ordered. Now if only someone could persuade Bachmann for one of the Bulleid catering vehicles to go with their new toolings (and hopefully the open 3rd/2nds).... one can always hope!!

  18. Thank you Bachman for retooling the Bulleid coaches after all this time. Very much appreciated. Let's hope this is the precursor to (perhaps) a couple of Restaurant coaches coming later?

Seconded, but am quite surprised they haven't retooled the opens as well.

    Chris.

  19. In terms of boiler bands and fittings and tank top, these pictures make an interesting comparison:

Noticed the band on the top of Granville - could it be possible that Dapol will be the first Model Railway supplier to be criticised for NOT having a mould line on the boiler ?  :sarcastichand:

  20. Apart from waiting about forty years for an Adams Radial after Wrenn put their picture in their catalogue this is the longest build up that I have ever come across for a model. I have seen three reviews and the models have been discussed at length.

I remember that picture, even saved up my pocket-money waiting for it to appear  :(. Didn't it turn out to be a Keyser model rather than a production prototype?

    Chris.
