  1. The roof is indeed part of the moulding, to remove the body, locate the four tabs close to the bogies. Be careful, the footplates are very fragile.

But some plasticard in between the chassis and body, and open up along the length towards the middle, there is an inverse U-tab, so open the body gently and you can take it of.

Apart from the footplates, the pipes running along the solebar sides are fragile as well. Be warned.

Thanks for the pictures! Are these, and other Steam Generator loco's popular? Asking because I'm a gimmick fan (sorry not sorry) and if they are, I can look forward to more models with steam.

  3. Just put the Hornby 17mm magnetic couplings on 6220 and (almost) the whole rake. Less than a mm between coaches on straight track, and no problem on 4th radius curves. Looks much better than the faux Roco ones.

  4. They started late, so I watched a nice video build of the new Airfix Chinook. I haven't build an aircraft kit in nearly 10 years, but this one's very tempting. Well done Airfix!

(I have in the mean time also watched builds of the Mitchell and Liberator, they seem to have come a long way.)

On Hornby, the only thing of interest is, maybe, the W1. I have a rebuild one, but I'm a fan of gimmicks, and this little warship on wheels has something. So maybe when it's available in one of Modelunion's steam weeks with 30% reduction.

Further, the Railroad HST is nice, after all, Railroad brought me into the hobby (without knowing it), but maybe it's because I'm Belgian, but this livery was unknown to me, I first thought it was fictive to apeal to the US market.

So I should spend £80 to replace a standard decoder with the hope that one day my purchase is justified, no thanks

If you can use your standard decoder in another loco, why not? If there’s no immediate use for it, it might indeed be better to wait. But if I saw one with redection, I would buy it. Chances are, when the profile is released, they decoders are sold out, or not so cheap.

Any decoder is a universal fit, i could put my loksound A4 into my class 800, it's just completely pointless if it's sounds are nothing near to the real loco

It’s not pointless. You can run your loco on MU on silent, until the profile is uploaded. You won’t have to remove or replace it, just leave it in. So TXS decoders are indeed universal fit.

As I keep saying next time don't give it to someone to do a full demonstration if you can't release it in a timely fashion. Most people will wonder what the delay is.

Following your logic, no more tooling samples, engineering samples, running samples, livery samples and so on for any new product from all producers?

  8. I hope no LNER this time, with the Coronation coaches and SS 2002 (and Locomotion) Hornby will already get enough of my money this year.

I'm totally fine for the diesel-people, or SR/GWR/LMS/BR-folk to have their wishes fulfilled.

Just joking of course, all hail the Raven A2! With steam generator and working lamps.

  9. Very friendly people at Bachmann, and quick with an answer, but they were first not aware that there were more than one type of accessory pack, and when I explained couldn't help me further.

No answer if a rerun of the D11's is in the works.

  10. Thanks for the help, but not all packs were the same, some were seperate, like the one still available or the one of Edie Ochiltree:

    s-l1600.webp

However, an email has also been send.

I wonder if there'll be a new run someday of the D11's.

  11. I bought 'Marne' about a year ago, second hand from a retailer, and I noticed the accessory pack was missing.

After contacting the shop, they send me this.

Because of having too many loco's, it only got it's DCC chip yesterday, so time to fit the extras.

However, it seems there are some other items missing, the front guard irons and the frame fillets.

Of course, not available anymore, neither at Bachmann, nor at Peter's Spares.

Anybody an idea where I could source these?

Another option is scratch building, but for that I would need some good pictures and the correct dimentions.

  12. I already have too many, but Empire of India at Modelbahnunion for £113 sure looks tempting! I already have CoA to pull the upcoming Coronation rake, otherwise the £104 would be even harder to resist!

  13. That’s why starting with HM7000 is not a bad idea for those on the fence about DCC.
My biggest issue with these is a lack of non-Hornby sound profiles. Of course, we’re only about a year into HM7000, and there are a lot of sound profiles available, so we’ll have to wait and see what the future brings.

  14. They have a TXS decoder, and those don’t work on DC. Initially it was claimed they could, with the DC controller on max, and using the app, but that was incorrect.
On the other hand, I think the HM7000 is easy and cheap way to get into DCC, you only need to power the tracks, no need for a controller, just use a smartphone or tablet.

They never have.  I've not forgotten when they released their version of the Roco close-coupler in OO - and lengthened it to remove the close-coupling feature🙄

The new 17mm magnetic ones are perfect on Gresley teaks. So they're getting there. It's a procession of Echternach, but still...

My receent orders direct from Hornby to Ireland have been shipped by UPS.  Ususally within three days once parcel is picked up by the courier, One niggle with Hornby is they send you an email to say the parcel is despatched when in fact all they have done is create a lable with the tracking number and is awaiting collection.

Hornby are not alone in this, a lot of the complains at Bpost are clients waiting for a parcel that hasn't left the sender yet.

My orders are by DPD for the British part of their journey (they are then handed over to the national postal service in France for some reason, even tho DPD exists in France).

This is something you'll see all over Europe, Bpost (my employer) takes over some volumes of DPD and DHL as well, but not always, During the Holiday season we also did parcels of PostNL, and in Germany, France and the Netherlands there are similar agreements. Mostly to spread costs and risks.
