  1. Death has to be a defo somewhere I m sure, the wizard looks very good!! Simon
  2. The individual integrally involved with the development of that project has been really ill hence the lack of development of the project, I am aware that it is still on the cards and will be delivered at some point in time. Best wishes Simon
  3. Defo see you at Corsham fingers crossed. Best wishes Simon
  4. Not sure that phone box clacks were mentioned but am sure i read something about mobile clacks carried by trolls working for the city watch. best wishes Simon
  5. Thank you for your kind words and great piccies. I agree, the standard at the show was really high which made the accolade all the more unexpected and appreciated! Best wishes SImon
  6. Did you get there? We had a great weekend despite several issues on the Saturday, much better on the Sunday and then was voted joint runner up Best In Show by the public! Excellent end to a great weekend. Best wishes Simon
  7. I have also seen a layout with a herd of sheep and a polar bear in the middle of the herd and another with the grim reaper waiting in turn at a bus stop. Tis all about keeping it FUN!! best wishes simon
  8. That is cool, perhaps I should build an N gauge one and put it on my N layout then send him a piccie, hehe! oh along side a tardis and maybe a space ship as well! Simon
  9. got to me as well, what I have actually found at shows is that although children, younger viewers like the layout, it captures the imagination of a very wide range of ages. This is something that has really surprised me over the few years we have been exhibiting it. Personally, I think that the massive advantage of our hobby is that there is space and potential for everybody from the small child with a circle of track that is set up on the floor to the highest level of detail modellers. I also think that on occasion, railway modellers are too in our own box, the techniques and resources that can be acquired from other streams of the model making hobby is enormous - painting and weathering from military modellers/figure painting from war gamers to mane but two! Best wishes Simon
  10. Vol 2 of the fantasy range from me is based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/137363-ankh-morpork-light-railway/page-1 no boards yet but lots of preparation work on the go such as structures, stock and figure painting. Aaaargh, I've hijacked me own thread!!! Best wishes Simon
  11. Totally agree with you all. At first I was really annoyed but i think that he has succeeded in making a fool of himself not RM or me. If RM stopped publishing 'fantasy' models then arguably the only layouts included would be true to scale replicas of rear places. Nearly all model railways are a fantasy to a certain degree. Thank you all again for reading my thread and you comments, always appreciated. Best wishes Simon
  12. I picked up the new Railway Modeller today and found this little jem - interesting opinion to discuss. Best wishes Simon
  13. Defo will include a clacks tower somewhere, got to be included hasn't it! Best wishes SImon
  14. I am sooo envious of you to be able to be reading his books for the first time!! Best wishes Simon
  15. The latest paintings - The first few are from a supplier known as gawd knows who!!Cannot remember when or where they came from beyond somebody selling them on Ebay a few years ago - yes I have been planning this project for a while now! (Terrible chunky crab claw hands but they came with a long wooden pole they are carrying, wondering what to hang from the pole at the mo, possibly a slave?) This wizard is from the Reaper Miniatures range, a plastic model so not as good detail so had to chop of the bent staff and remake from brass wire and tube. Obviously not totally finished yet but pleased so far. Finally, my favourite character - Death himself! I am also going to have a go at making some trolls using offcuts of insulation foam carved and glued together, several piccies collected from different sources to copy etc - found this website and like the idea! http://www.germy.co.uk/makingelemental.html Best wishes Simon
  16. I know I have been a little quiet, I have been busy with all sorts including painting more figures as well as searching for and ordering a few more from Black Cat Bases, excellent looking figures at really good prices - http://blackcatbases.com/ Will add a few piccies in a bit when my phone plays ball and sends them! Best wishes Simon
  17. Prid of Ankh Morpork it is then! Will remember that, great idea! Simon
  18. Ah yes, Vorbis's Iron Turtle! not sure that would be appropriate for the family audience hehe. Simon
  19. If the layout moved by turtle, I had better leave now to get there in time! Open to possible exhibition offers, just remember that I have not even started the boards yet though! Simon
  20. Totally agree Richard (Mudmagnet), I have been talking about this one for a long time. Finger officially removed from butt hehe. I have been out in the cabin once more with the phone camera so apologies for the quality, anyway here goes for more stuff done so far - This is the interior of the end building so this little drawing shop will be facing the front, you viewers! I mentioned the 3d printed bread before, well here it is on the stall. I know, still no sign! I am also working on scratchbuilding a ship for the dock, I found some really awesome resin ones but at £65 each (some well more than that even) this will do for now! Now some of the figures already painted - A few geezers, the blacksmith and the steampunk bloke are from Reaper miniatures and the other is from Gamesworkshop - less detailed as he will be inside one of the shops, the outstretched hand will be holding the door. A few girlies, all 3 from Reaper Miniatures, yes the one on the left will be at the front door of the Seamstresses Guild - My first troll What can I say but 'DON'T DO IT RINCEWIND, IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!' CMOT Dibbler trying to see a 'sausage ina bun' to Rincewind the wizzard. The original Night Watch, Sergeant Colon, Captain Vimes and Corporal 'Nobby' Nobbs And finally the 3 witches, Granny Weatherwax, Magrat Garlick and Nanny Ogg Anyway, that is about all for now. Best wishes Simon
  21. I am using the wargaming scale of 28mm scale rather than O gauge as I did with Hobbiton End, massive ranges of figures - way more than in O gauge so no lack of opportunities although many of them are in fighting poses they can be converted. As for Discworld characters a company called MicroArt do an ever expanding range of specific characters. I will then supplement them with other 28mm scale figures from here, there and everywhere. Will need to be careful to choose figures that match size wise to these with careful placement of others. https://shop.microartstudio.com/en/258-miniatures There was also a range made by a company called Clairecraft a few years ago, many on Ebay but since Terry's death their prices have rocketed - sellers taking the wizzle me thinks!! £22 for a single figure - mick take! lots of other figures from companies such as Games workshop, Reaper miniatures, War Games Foundry etc etc etc. Best wishes Simon
  22. yep a typo indeed! Am reading Soul Music at the moment, for the umpteenth time - love it!! 'Luggage' van, will need lots of leg room, er sorry foot space! The support from all you guys is fantastic, really appreciated!! best wishes Simon
  23. Thank you all for your interest and comments, not sure about including Harry King as he is heavily involved with the other railway, name escapes me at the moment, will look it up and add later. The plan does include warehouses at the far end, possibly the Pork Futures Warehouse? Some ideas so far - Special coach for Lord Vetinary, black obviously complete with his coat of arms. Golem or Troll operated crane on the dock side Got to include 'Music with Rocks in' I am a rocker at heart! Inclusion of the 'Going-Under-The-Water-Safely-Device' in the dock area as well. Possibly not 'The Mended Drum' but I will be including at least 1 inn/pub/bar thingy type place for quaffing and fighting! I have the similar aim as with Hobbiton End - to have fun but not far enough to become a gimmick, push the boundaries of model making and keep to a decent standard and possibly most importantly, to ensure that anyone with an interest in Discworld will recognise the scene and enjoy it as much as I will be enjoying building and operating it. Before anyone asks, YES this layout will be going out on the exhibition circuit should I be lucky enough to be invited out!! Anyway, modelling/laptop time ending and reality takes over - shopping! AAAAAAAAARGH!!! Simon
  24. I have already painted CMOT Dibbler complete with a tray of 'sausage in'a bun' so he will be present along with several recogniseable characters. Simon
  25. A quick addition as I found a piccie on here I forgot I took - a few months ago, one of the model railway magazines, Railway Modeller I think as Peco own Wills these days, gave away a pack of Wills SS37 market stalls - https://www.hattons.co.uk/120255/Wills_Kits_SS37_Market_Stalls_4_wheel_barrows_with_loads/StockDetail.aspx (No personal link to Hattons, just for representation, other shops are available etc etc ...) I had them sat in a spares box for ages then I got looking at them for possible use on Ankh Morpork, I realised that they could be a good basis with a little work - replace everythign below the table top! Anyway, this is what I came up with and a pretty pleased! A second one is on the go which will be loaded with a selection of loaves of bread (3d printed ones) Best wishes Simon
