  1. Well it seems I am the bad boy! I am also a troll apparently better not put a picture up then! I also posted in the wrong section! Oh dear.

Thank you Hattons I have now received my order. Despite telling me it could be twenty days things kicked into action on Monday (yesterday) the order was repeated and the parcel was with me today, I did email them and thank them. The courier was Yodel.

Never having had a parcel go missing in the years I have used Hattons (and I did wait five days before contacting the company) and others I did not think it unreasonable to ask others experiences. Probably got that one wrong as well!

My intention was not to deride Hattons indeed where would we without them now a significant amount of local model shops have gone. I did think the prospect of waiting twenty days was unreasonable but perhaps others think it’s not.

Perhaps in their frequently asked questions they could detail procedures in the event of lost parcels so that people know what to expect. Or perhaps it’s just me.

  2. The post is lacking any specifics with respect to dates. They wouldn't be able to tell who you are from the post either but I will speak to them tomorrow to see if they can give more info.

I do think you're a bit unfair to Hatton's to jump on here and malign them when the cause is out of their direct control.

Don’t think I “maligned” them but I thought forums were here to share experiences and don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask others if they had similar problems. Hattons know that the parcel is lost in the DPD system from their own tracking so I don’t think It’s unreasonable to ask Hattons to resend the order and then when the original parcel is found restock it. Especially as I had planned to do some modelling in my time of work and will miss the window so to speak.

  3. Placed a substantial order with Hattons. Despatched by 24 Dpd tracked. Never arrived. Contacted Hattons who say the tracking says it’s still in Liverpool but it’s lost. Asked Hattons for a replacement or a refund. Won’t give me either until 20 days have passed. Seems unfair to me. I’ve got neither the money or the goods. Used Hattons for years will think twice about using them again.

Anyone had similar problems and how was it resolved?

  4. As a matter of interest, I had a look on BR Lines web site to establish the price fellow hobbyist are charged for a repair to their Graham Farish Loco's with one split gear! To post a small parcel 2nd class proof of postage only is currently £2.85 (no insurance) BR Lines charges £14.50 plus cost of parts say £1.00 for a gear and VAT £3.10 plus return postage £3.20 total £24.65 plus the risk the loco being lost in the post! Wow! This is in no way a criticism of what BR Lines are charging and £14.50 + VAT includes a full service (plugs oil and filters! sorry couldn't resist!) But seriously nearly £25.00 every time someone not capable of repairing a split gear in their Graham Farish Loco! come on! I would be interested to find out what Bachmann charge to repair a split gear? Pete

Bachmann currently charge £30 to repair a loco which includes the first £7 of parts as far as I am aware plus your postage costs to send it to them.

  5. Are the motors on the chassis in the way of the interior detail.

No it’s not the motors the whole casting in which the motors sit comes to just below window level. That would nominally make the floor at window level but the interior is wider than the windows back to back as it’s designed to sit below the glazing mouldings. In hindsight the dvd motor drive might have been more suitable for this dmu. But I am learning!

  6. Well I have now got the replica railway powered chassis fitted. I modified the Hornby underframe rather than use the one supplied because I didn’t see how I could remove the engine detail between the wheel sets. It runs really well. One problem that I should have foreseen but didn’t was that the detailed interior won’t fit because the replica unit sits high in the body. Will have thinks on that one?

Still to fit the bogie sideframes. Will look into CD drives for my next conversion!

  7. Yes East Kent Models where still selling them for 50p a pop when they closed.

Wish I could buy them now for 50p a pop, here’s a picture of my grain train. The Hornby wagons are over scale compared to the Bachmann ones but I can live with that!post-34120-0-42853600-1523636632_thumb.jpeg
