  1. I’m using a Hornby point motor but I’m sure it’s all the same. Thank you, I’ll take a look in the store!
  2. Hi my local hardware store sells switches that are on-on and I was wondering if these will work in the system I have chosen for my layout; see the wiring diagram below.
  3. Yes, the ballast is glued down. The point motor doesn’t work when it’s not attached to the baseboard so the point must be faulty. I’ll steal another one from elsewhere. Thank you for your help!
  4. Having completed the ballast in the Carndonagh station, made a mock-up of the station and got point motors installed (Hornby surface mounted) I’m now moving on to electrics. While the layout is DCC I am going to use a separate switchboard for points as I think that it would be too fiddly to control them all on my Hornby Select (see diagram for the method I’ll use). Of course I’ll have a DCC power bus the length of the layout. With summer ending soon and schoolwork looming, in really want to get a dent in the electrics over the next few days! let me know your thoughts on the Layout, I’d love to hear from you all!
  5. I’ve cleaned the side of the blades and I can definitely move it with my hand. When activated the blades move, however it could take 4 switches for them to go from one side to the other. Also, for some reason the motor doesn’t seem to want to turn left!
  6. Hi I’m pretty new to model trains and this is my first layout. I have the track down and ballasted however when I wire up my point motors they don’t switch the points. I’m not sure if the ballast is making point movement difficult or perhaps the point motor is faulty. Anyone have any tips on how I could eliminate unknowns?
  7. I live in Derry, so like others have said, if you need any help researching let me know, although everything looks magnificent already!
  8. You were researching it too? For what, may I ask? I’m making a L&LSR layout myself!
  9. I was wondering if there was a free software that you can use to control your trains on PC. I would prefer the free option because I’d like to save a little money in this slightly expensive hobby of ours!
  10. Oh yes sorry. 0-6-0. I’ve been taking it apart and t think it’s a dodgy decoder because when I put in a different 4-pin decoder it runs when I touch the pickups on the track. However now that the motor’s back on the chassis it’s not going. Huh.
  11. Hi so I have a Hornby 0-3-0 that I've had for a while, the normal Hornby 0-3-0 chassis. I have another one which runs fine. I’ve cleaned the track, wheels and pickups and it’s still not running. Any thoughts?
  12. Happy Birthday @fatherdougal

  13. Thank you SO much, that proved invaluable when finding out the trackplan!
  14. Point motors arrived!
