Looking good so far,ile pop in again soon
This thread really takes me back! Great Gutter Lane!! I lived at Melton, in the old Capper Pass works houses at Melton Fields. Great Gutter Lane was used almost daily.

Amazing to see those photos of Cholsey's centenary. I lived in the North in the 1990's. Now I can see the back of Cholsey Station from my house.
Thanks for posting them up.

Nick,
I'll have a go at getting the information this coming weekend.
Kind regards,
Dean.
Nick,
Took a walk up to Silly Bridge yesterday, from what we could see there is no additional arch in the extended pillar. The bridge from wall to wall was 15'9" wide. There are large stone parapets now so it was not possible to gauge wall thickness. Hope this helps with your research.
Also, at the line side towards Hutts yard was one of their old coal wagons, identical to the one pictured in the book 'Wallingford Branch'. It was too far away to get a shot but I will be asking if I can get access to photograph it. I actually have two Robbies Rolling Stock Hutts wagons so it was good to see one for real. I live in the road adjacent to the main line, back in the day it was just a farm track. This summer we were fortunate enough to see a bit of borrowed steam on the preserved line.
Best wishes,
Dean.

Thanks Dean
If you wouldn't mind (and it's not too muddy at the moment) I'm after the distance between the two brick parapets, across the deck, at the top of the bridge.
Although I have visited the site before I now realise I omitted to get this measurement and I'm not likely to be able to get there again for a while.
The other thing is - you can see a transverse, open arch in one of the piers in this photo:
I can't tell 100% from the photo but it doesn't look to me that the other pier (where the bridge was extended) has a similar arch. I don't know whether it's still possible to get this view from the footpath after the electrification work?
I'd be grateful if you can assist,
Thanks

Thanks Dean and good luck with Hampden Vale.
As you're in Cholsey I wonder whether I could be a bit cheeky and ask whether you could help with a couple of queries at Silly Bridge?
Thanks,
Nick
If I can help Nick I'd be happy to.

I will be watching this with interest as I live in Cholsey and my proposed new layout 'Hampden Vale' will be loosely based on the area in 1930's GWR (Yes, another one!)
The asylum (Fairmile Hospital), was featured in Lewis, shortly before being converted into flats which it now is.
Best Wishes.

I've just caught up with this topic and I'm very much impressed and inspired by your work. The 30's are the era I really like to see modelled and KNP and Neal Ball's layouts are ones I follow with interest. Now I have another inspirational layout to follow.
Do you have an RAF connection? I see various prints in your workshop.
Best wishes,
Dean.

Another very old model that I got off the bay..
A Lima Express Dairies milk tank wagon that normally hides under cover in the Creamery yard.
A lot of weathering went into this using washes, dry brushing and powders.
One thing though, never quite worked out how the brakes on this worked - lateral movement I believe!!!
That is some top class weathering. Amazing job Kevin.

I do love a Railcar. The photo 'from the goods shed roof' captures it for me, although its always difficult to choose favourites on this thread.
Cheers,
Dean.

Neal,
Next time you are over here on research, the Little Angel still keeps a very nice pint of Brakspears and great food. I was in there a couple of weeks ago, purely research of course!

Just great to see, reminds me of a childhood building Airfix Trackside kits and dreaming of the layout I would build to put them on.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Pete,
All forums have their 'old women' that like to tear apart people's posts. Model engineering, motorbikes, they all have them. I've made a few of them cry over the years! I'm sure I'll gain a lot from the forum. I'm not a beginner but like most of us, have a lot to learn still.

There is some good knowledge on here but you sometimes need a thick skin to cope with the mis-interpreted posts which can too often cause a bit of bad feeling.
I hope you find it useful.

Welcome aboard. I’m sure you will find plenty of info and inspiration on here. There could well be other members very close to you in south Oxfordshire!
Whoever could that be Mr 7?

Hello all,
New member from South Oxfordshire, not far from Pendon luckily!
I have returned to the hobby as my children have become interested. My hobbies include model engineering, I'm a motor cruiser fan and have a thing for IC engine designs by E T Westbury.
I'm also into motorbikes.
We have a 6x4 portable layout designed and built by my Uncle, Graham Wilson of Bridlington Model Railway Society. He designed and built Basin Street if anyone is familiar with the layout.
The idea was to provide us with a starting point so that we could improve the layout, I could get back into it, the boys could learn but most of all we could have some fun with it.
My intention is to go 1930s GWR, based on the area we live in. Its a popular topic and there is some great inspiration on the forum, looking forward being part of it all.
