  1. Correct. But notice that the S88 connection is marked "IN".

All of the 4088 devices that support a non-S88 primary connection, like the LN which uses LocoNet, reply on the S88 protocol for connecting the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc devices.

If you check the manual for the basic 4088 device which has no suffix you will see that it has an S88 connection marked "OUT" as well as the connection marked "IN".

If your command station needs an incoming S88 connection you need the basic 4088 device.

Excellent info. Pity there's no "Dummies guide to" for this kind of thing...I know James Hudson @ dcc trainautomation has a wealth of info, but he's quite busy and difficult to get on the phone.

I've been scared to just "connect without knowing what was doing" for fear of wrecking DR5000, 4088LN 4088 and goodness knows what else!

  2. The CS version is used for occupancy detection via current sensing (thus the CS) with the power to one rail flowing "into" the C connections and "out" to the rails via the 1-16 connections.

The GND version is used for contact closures between the C connections and the 1-16 connections.

The OPTO version is similar to the GND version but it is optically isolated.

Thank you thank you thank you for explaining the CS version !!

For begineers, it's a great help.

  3. Nope, they’re sold from the UK, and available with Prime.

Mine was faulty and almost immediately after installing it my ECoS cooked it’s main processor board, could be coincidence, but after 6 years of use it feels unlikely! Can’t decide whether to persist with the DR4088s now the ECoS is repaired.

Sorry....yes i meant that they are on Amazon UK, and I got mine next day using Prime.  Mind you, with the lack of documentation, its frustrating for a beginner like me.  (And what the hell does "CS" "GND" and "OPTO stand for?????)

  4. If you look at this version of the manual you will see that RS-Bus is supported - the manual you were looking at is v1.1.1 and the firmware is now on 1.5.0, so even this Dutch version is out of date! (there are several online sites that will translate the pdf to English for you (though the pictures are in English) http://support.digikeijs.com/download/attachments/655416/DR5000%20uitgebreide%20handleiding%20NEDERLANDS%20v1.2.3.pdf?api=v2

The manual also shows how to connect with TC, and Dijikeijs is heavily used in Germany with TC9, the LocoNet LBServer and TCP/IP Binary are supported LAN protocols which I use exclusively. I can't answer for how TC works are moved in your question, partly because I don't use TC, preferring iTrain, but mainly I can't answer because I don't understand the question though I do understand your point about Herr Freiwald, he can be somewhat awkward to deal with and it is very much his way or no way (and one of the reasons why I use iTrain and not TC  ;))

The LH100 and WiredMultimaus will work using the Xpressnet Bus as will the wifi version BUT, if you are using the LAN for Loconet then you can't connect to the DR5000 as it only supports one network protocol and if you have Loconet selected then you cannot also select Z21, however, if you connect TC via USB then you can use the wifi Multimaus. I use my wifi Multimaus on my home network through iTrain on my PC which talks using Loconet to the DR500 allowing me to circumvent the network protocol limitation.

Hopefully, this helps, though I can't answer one question - sorry but if you can explain what you mean I may be able to answer :)

Yup....and there was me....seeing the ad for a DR5000 with ALL those connections & protocols...and then when you get it...it only supports one. Bit like buying that £50 skyrocket firework....watching with eager anticipation as the touch paper burns and then...and then....the thing falls over and shoots into the garden hedge. That's the one gripe I have with Digikeijs.....the worst support documentation I've ever encountered for a product.

  5. I have the S2sx which I plan to use (one half) to drive a Hornby surface mount motor. I also have a Peco LK55 t/table with Locomotech indexed motor kit. The t/table is moved onto the next "position" by shorting two terminals momentarily (<1 sec). Question is, can I use the other half of the decoder (via a low power relay) to perform the momentary connection?
