  1. Firstly I need to clarify my ‘medical problems’. My previous announcement  seems to have caused more concern for me than I really deserve. I’m not about to go and play with the big trainset in the sky,

Although I have suffered constant pain for many years and which has been getting steadily worse, I have recently seen a specialist who is 90% sure he can help to reduce the pain without the need for an operation.

However that still means many months before any improvement may be seen and so I have therefore decided to close the retail shop at St Georges Works Trowbridge at 2.30pm on Christmas Eve.

I will continue trading online and at shows in the future. The website and email address will remain in use for the time being. I will let you know if they need to change. I will advertise a new phone number when I have one: for the moment you can still contact me on 01225 777888.

The first show of 2018 for me will be the new date in Frome. 6/7 January. Followed by my regular slot at Calne on 20/21 January.

    See you there…

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the years’ and I look forward to continuing to help with your projects in the future.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

    Thank you

    Dave

  2. Yes, the freebie has definitely had an impact. I have 120 a month and they all go

With no alternative to M-L Distribution, I think that we will have to stop with the majority of the magazines, the amount of work put in is just not worth it.
Railway Modeller and Continental Modeller direct from Peco is a much smoother operation, although not SoR

I hate to let down my customers, but WHSmith will benefit........

(Martin-Lavell Distribution is partly owned by WHSmith...... coincidence or conspiracy ?)

  3. Dear Fellow Model Shop Owners

Do you stock Model Railway magazines?
Did you use WWMD before they closed?
Do you, like me, now use Martin-Lavell?
Are you having any issues with Martin-Lavell?

I havent had one correct delivery since they took over.

Im sure it should just be a reading a counting exercise for them? And yet they seem completely unable to deliver the correct amount, at the correct time, or the correct titled magazines.

Do you have any alternatives to Martin-Lavell?

This evenings Railway Thursdays, 9 February with Kevin Weston, entitled “Longleat Railway – Infrastructure Upgrading in 2016” – You may remember that Longleat had a few well publicised derailments. In August 2014 after the third incident in as many years The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) investigated. The ORR regulates health and safety for the entire mainline rail network in Britain, as well as London Underground, light rail, trams and the heritage sector. Kevin and his team were called in to get the railway up to standard.

I must also say a big thank you to my wife, Rachel who has allowed me to attend Thursday evening even though it is our 24th Wedding Anniversary X.
