  1. Have to say I presumed the speculation to be nonsense but Newey moving on is a surprise. Could he be going to Mercedes? I can't see him wanting to move to Italy. Toto has just been throwing everyone off with the Max stuff. Although with how rude and ungrateful Max is on the radio I can understand Adrian not wanting to provide him with a car.
  2. In my experience parkside wagons are quite light. You'll likely need a weighty load to keep that wagon from derailing.
  3. I'm in my 4th decade and remember slam door stock coming through East Croydon although admittedly I was sub 5. All the doors opening on a still moving train made a lasting impression!
  4. Disused bay platform at West Worthing. Very overgrown at the moment but when I last looked in the winter it was still connected to the carriage sidings although with no provision for outside third!
  5. Presumably the person out front didn't have any controls other than steering? I don't fancy sitting there on a downhill section if it runs away!
  6. Never write off to malevolence what could have been caused by incompetence. At least they got a run although there is mention here of it not completing the tour. Lack of crew/fuel after the issues in the morning?
  7. Back on route, just through Raynes Park. That's going to be a spirited run to Bristol I feel!
  8. Steam today. Horsham to Bristol pulled by Mayflower. https://www.railadvent.co.uk/events/steam-dreams-horsham-and-chichester-to-bath-and-bristol
  9. Thanks @rasalmon Looks like they have repainted the smoke box for the trip. Looks really good.
  10. I believe Fenchurch goes on holiday to the SVR today. Family commitments will keep me away but hopefully some here will get pictures/video.
  11. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
  12. That's correct. That is a Lima dirt hoover. Not keen on train set points but runs well once it's going. The train it's pulling is all Lima too.

Debated whether to respond in English or Welsh: I'm learning it very slowly and I don't think that is what it says but I can see why you got that translation. I'll wait until a Welsh speaker confirms I'm wrong before admitting defeat.

  15. The 12 wheeler has come with different options over the years to enable it to take 1st radius (maybe not per the book but I know mine did) so it might be worth checking out what version you have. Taxing my memory but I think some had cutaway sole bars and possibly another with a different bogie pivot arrangement.
  16. Having tried to clean it up when I was in the 9F club many years ago it's nice to see it looking respectable again. If it helps I can dig my GEM kit out the roundtoit pile. Not sure how far through it I have to get to guarantee an RTR model though?
  17. It depends on what they are. Earlier stuff will never run satisfactorily due to the depth of flange. Later stuff tends to be ok with the odd awkward customer. The loco axles are self setting on the axle so you could only push them out a little if you get something climbing the check rails repeatedly. I seem to remember the curved points needed the check rails thickening up to stop stock getting split on the frog but that included modern stuff too. This was thirty odd years ago mind! A lot of rolling stock (including tenders) have split floating wheels on each axle and so have an infinitely variable back to back!
  18. And I came to realise the springing in the HAL motor mount was the floor flexing so it now has had a doubler plate soldered in. I've also been cleaning everything on the 4-4-2 ready to be assembled.
  19. After blowing all week the wind finally dropped at the same time as the chassis was ready for final test assembly. Halfords satan black as ever does a cracking job. Touch dry in 15mins and blends in with HD original paint very well. But now, as it's not raining for once, progress will have to stop while I do some work in the garden.
  20. Thanks @jimwal After reading your post I remembered I had some magnet clamps. Bit of jiggling and then 'snap'.
  21. 2 HAL roofs; Now soaking in paint stripper.
  22. A question on the N2 chassis motor bottom bearing. I'm reworking one and got to the cleaning and painting stage. Previous chassis I've done the bottom ball bearing has been embedded but come out after degreasing and a gentle prod with a screw driver. This one won't shift even after degreasing, brake cleaner, soaking with meths, prodding, and waving a magnet at it. I'm erring on leaving it in place and masking off. Anyone had experiences that would suggest this is a bad plan? My only option really now would be to push the whole cup out. Could the ball have been pinched in place in the cup during assembly?
