Hello everyone!
I have a question regarding stations with train sheds/large canopies. I noticed that in Thomas the Tank Engine (Series 1 and 2 specifically) in Knapford station there seems to be a marshaling point for goods trains under the station canopy next to platform 4, as can be seen in this picture to the left side:It also seems to be some kind of platform for goods traffic.
I was wondering if there were ever any situations where there was a goods shed or platform in one of these mainline stations or termini in the real world?

With the sale on a Hattons now, I might buy both the A3 and the A4... They look like lovely models, but to read the forums here, it seems that it's almost 50/50 as to whether you get a good one or a disaster piece.
Is it truly so bad? This question really holds me back from making any purchase at the moment. -

Hi all. I have done a quick search, but I was unable to find anything pertaining to my specific question, so I apologise if this has been asked before.
Yesterday, my girlfriend gifted me a brand new Dapol/Lionheart 64xx. Upon opening it says that before running in, it recommends oiling some of the motion. It gives two recommendations: Dapoil and Locolube. However, since I live in Germany, importing such products is forbidden. Are there any equivalents I could use? Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality oil?
Thank you for your attention.

Ah, once again back to this topic for more questions!
I have been considering having a crack at making my own track and points. I have found Greenwood Model Railway Products who appear to offer beginner-friendly point kits. However (and this isn't the first time this question has been elicited from me), I have noticed that there is a choice of "type" which comes down to radius selections etc. I honestly have absolutely no idea about what these mean and I can't seem to find any simple guides or explanations for these random numbers and letters. Could anybody explain the notations for turnout radii in plain English for me?
In other words, wold it be possible to explain the difference between A4.5, A5, A5.5, A6, B6, B6.6, B7 and B8?

If you look on my Frydale thread most of the colliery is on the backscene. This was my simple decoupage approach to copy, cut and paste. It really depends on which part of colliery operation you want to model. Unless you have that sports hall and a lottery winner's budget.......
Well, no, I do not have those resources. However, I would like to create something which people can look at and say "Yes, that is definitely reminiscent of [insert place here]". Not necessarily an exact copy, but something the essence of these locations.

Another question. I am trying to find more information and pictures about Llanbradach colliery and the railways around it. Can anyone recommend any books?

Time to search through Google images for collieries making notes and sketches of what you like. Unless you have a sports hall to fill you will have to be pretty selective in your choice of building. In one sense they can be pretty generic but with a closer eye each one is absolutely unique. A bit like modellers I suppose.
In other words, I will have to scratch-build some of the buildings? That's going to be a real task for someone with no modelling skill at all...
Thank you for the suggestion though! I can always look at more well-documented collieries in Google Images.

That's a good idea! How do I do that?
EDIT: Another question. I am trying to find more information and pictures about Llanbradach colliery and the railways around it. Can anyone recommend any books?

Thank you for the information. I will keep it in mind!

I can't seem to find anything there in O Scale... Only OO and N.

Hi everyone! Back with another question. Does anyone know if anyone produces kits for collieries and their buildings? I can't seem to find anything anywhere in Google (at least, not in 7mm scale).

Thank you all for the information!

I'm building a Slaters GWR 4W coach kit with sides pre-painted in the elaborate lined pre-1902 livery. These cost GBP60 more than the unpainted versions, but you would pay several times that for a professional job of such quality. Simpler liveries are a more realistic DIY option.
These are definitely not beginners kits, as they have many fragile etched brass chassis parts and require some soldering, sheet cutting and tricky brass folding. I worked my way through a few plastic and brass wagons first.
I was planning on building a few of their wagon kits first, since they now also supply a few of them with pre-painted sides. Are their wagon kits easier to build than the coach kits or am I better off looking at Parkside (which are almost fully plastic if I understand correctly)?

Hello again! Could anyone tell me if they have any experience of the readily-painted coach and wagon kits from Slater's? I am looking at getting a few since they seem to have injection-molded parts and not a lot of etchings (quite beginner friendly, it would seem).

When I try to access the site it says that the shop has been closed. This is the link I get:

Can anyone else verify this?

If all that is missing is the odd dropper wire then that's an easy cheap fix, also these turnouts are very robust and repair easily. Price seems fine, just be carefull that the seller can be trusted
Thank you. Honestly, I am not sure about the trustworthiness of the seller, so I think that I will skip this and instead just go for my own brand new ones once they come back into stock.

Possibly but others would need to answer that, I am clueless on DCC
Thank you for your help anyway!

Not a bad price, hard to tell from the picture but they look to be missing the dropper wire to the crossing vee. Should still work but you are reliant on the switch blades to power the vee.
Would that cause any issues on a DCC layout? I am planning on getting to DCC at some point...

Price is £25 each, plus £3 postage (for all).

Hello everyone! I could use some advice if I may:
I have contacted someone about purchasing some points on Facebook. Considering the price and the current lack of available track, I am amazed that no one has picked them up yet. My question is: does that mean that something wrong with them? Could I ask you to take a look and tell me if something jumps out at you? -
Sorry for resurrecting a dead topic, but I would like to know if anyone has any news about the second batch of 57xx Panniers (plus riveted versions). On the one website it claims that expected delivery is about Q2 2020, so with the next couple of months. However, I can't even find an announcement from Dapol about this batch...

Thank you for your reply!
Would these platforms have been used for anything else? Dry goods, for example?
