If someone is still looking for one of these, the Hobby Shop Faversham still has stock - at £130 post paid so a marked contrast to some outlets.

Thanks for that.  I succumbed at that price.  Looks like I got their last one.  Now do I put it in the cupboard al g with the Rocket.....

Well I think most of us will agree with that. But maybe a lot of Hornby fans won’t contemplate or appreciate the difference in quality. Brand loyalty ?

I think brand loyalty only goes so far.  I bought the Tri-ang Rocket simply for the packaging, I'm noted as a contrubutor to Pat Hammond's Tri-ang trilogy, I think the Evening Star was a major milestone and is still a fine model, but haven't been tempted at £150!  So brand loyalty only goes do far.  For me anyway.

And that truly beggars belief. But hang on there a minute,we’ve recently seen R3819 Duchess of Atholl pass the £500 mark so why indeed should I be incredulous at this taking of the p### ?  Somebody out there will pay it I expect.

The difference being that the Duchess was an innovative new idea released in smaller numbers.  Evening Star is pretty much the same model that has been done to death over the years.  So I get why the Duchess went sky high, but I'm perplexed as to why the 9f would sell out tbh.

I think the 1980 APT tooling was confirmed as destroyed.

    I’m wondering if versions of N2 , A4 , Duchess , Castle , 8F , 08 and even 20  will appear as limited editions on Hornby Dublo packaging .

I can’t imagine that Hornby went to all that trouble producing only  500 Duchess of Atholls in diecast , so I imagine other Duchesses will follow . But could we see diecast A4 and Castles ? You could see that people who already have models of these might be swung to get a diecast one . So it expands the market by changing to diecast .

I wonder if the EM2 tooling still exists . How about that and Lord of The Isles appearing in Triang packaging ( assuming they’re can still use Triang name)

I think that is bob on myself.  I fully expect to see more diecast Duchesses followed by an A4 in Dublo packaging.

The EM2 moulds have been destroyed per Simon Kohler.

The only response I can think of right now is "don't be such an ****".

I'll always save a step for you John, it has a plaque on it.

I just get pig sick of people slamming manufacturers/retailers when they haven't got the capacity to investigate for themselves or the capacity to understand wider issues.

Anyway; I'm done, think what you like because you will anyway and I've got some stuff that needs doing.

You've added nothing to the understanding, insulted people and made yourself look rather childish.  The main pieces of evidence we have are the statement from Rails and the evidence I posted - I'll post it again for you.  John gets the maths, as do I.

Based on that, it is not unreasonable to look at the manufacturer.

Not at all (so do not presume to accuse me of that), we are very obviously discussing a smaller retailer. I have been assured that all smaller retailers will receive their initial order quantities.

So what is the cause?  We have one retailer that made a mistake and others that claim they didn't get their allocation.  Rather than belittle the victims, why not spell out what you believe to be the issue?

I have indeed but I remain bemused that someone takes to RMweb to criticise the manufacturer when the real issue is an unnamed retailer being a bit fly and taking advantage of the customer.

Basically you are saying a Sheffield based retailer is lying?

  8. I don't disagree with you.  It isn't good.

Looking at the success of this model, I can see a range of die cast Dublo replicas.  Duchesses is various colours, followed by die cast A4 locos.  The only positive is that Hornby appear to have hit a winning formula for a high priced, high margin range.

  9. As the person that pointed out H had stock, they accepted my order.  As noted earlier by a posted, there was a problem with payment due to their systems, but I phoned them and payment was taken.
