  1. After my recent house move, to find another American O-scaler in Wiltshire made me miss it's an FA not just an F-unit, I was in such a hurry to reply. Is it a Weaver? If yes is it big motor in the middle and shaft drive to all wheels or their more recent independent trucks, twin motors and spur gears? If the latter, taking the motor and associated gear out of one truck could fix the current draw problem and leave enough power to pull enough stock. If the former and something's binding in the drive I've got spare odds and ends. My next objective is to find a club with an O-scale track and members who've been too embarrassed to bring out American stock before I turned up. That's what happened in Morecambe! Winchester is probably the easiest for me, Andover is next.... Jason
  2. I can see the F-unit and the C-liner, so what's the missing one and which is the white elephant? Track looked good too. Does the grand-daughter solder yet....? Did we speak at Winchester? If we didn't cover all that's great about American O-scale, when shall we continue the conversation!! Jason (yes, Ludgershall,Wilts)
  3. Typical - first question is always the most difficult. April next year? OK Gordy I know you were probably expecting me to say September this year, but I'll ..., er, I'll ... um, ... yep ... still be unpacking after my house move! C'mon everybody, give a me a helping hand here...! Jason ps: don't forget location too. TVNAM's place? Further south? Even further north?
  4. OK, my first try at a blog. This one is my first draft for an O-scale modular spec based on the ideas behind Free-mo and many others. Everything is up for debate. What more can I say? I have no idea what this will look like on RMWeb, a 4-page Word document should be coming too and the dogs need feeding so I've just got to get going! FreemOModSpecV1.05.doc Jason Dickie D&H 70s/80s O-scale
  5. All the way thru the chili I had a feeling I'd forgotten something... http://ageofsteamroundhouse.com/Album_Aerials_12_04.html Edit 21/9/17: As Stephen points out in the next post, there is a fine obituary to JJJ on the website's home page, but the pic page(s) have gone.
  6. Just came across this, apologies if you've seen it, just need a large box-file? Free-mo module that's more like it. Hmmm - FreemO.... Jason
  7. Worth starting a new thread for? O-scale FreemO. All we'd have to do is agree a spec, I haven't come across another O-scale freemo group in the UK. Oh and agree a name, a Bing search on the freemo name, apart from the German org (name copyright?), got me fireworks, sewing machines and adult dating sites, so a good start. No, seriously, new thread?? Jason
  8. That's a great selection at really good prices from a fairly focussed collection. Jordan, the SOO Fs appear to be modified early Atlas/Roco F9s, with slight variations made in fan diameters and other details, like added winterisation hatch. Reminds me how much fun kitbashing is in O. For you HOers watch the bit in the original Star Wars where Obi-Wan Kenobi starts to control the Storm Trooper, telling him to say 'You don't have to sell all your HO yet. Just buy that bit of O-scale you have seen'. So an O-scale get together at TVNAM in 2016? Your layout will be operational by then won't it Nick? Jason
  9. I asked Sophie at Anoraks Anonymous about O-scale temptation in stock recently. This was her reply a bit over a month ago, so don't expect the current list to be anything like this! No, I didn't buy anything, because of the stalled house move down south and ... yeh, yeh, sobs, wails, etc, used to it all now.... Deep breath - ____________________________________________________________________ Hello Jason, I have catalogued most of my O gauge for you. It's all boxed and in good condition. I may have a few loose wagons somewhere, but at the moment I can't find them. I also have a brass steamer somewhere, that's going to be reduced for a quick sale if you want any information on that. So here's the list for you; MTH husky stack car with containers- 20-95081 £34 MTH soo line centrebeam: 20-98657 £34 Atlas- 33,000 gallon tank car, united, 7414-2 £33 Berwick hy-cube, Rio grande, 9624-6 £34 Ps-1 plug door, c and o, 9864-2 £33 Auto part box car, Milwaukee, 7563-2 £29 Double sheathed box car, St. Louis, 9341-2 £29 AAR single door box care, Spokane, Portland and Seattle, 9585-2 £29 Berwick hy-cube, Santa Fe, 9625-10 £34 3 bay cylindrical hopper, ARCO, 7324-1£33 40' air slide hopper, b & o, 3002050-1 £27 Coalveyor hopper, Kansas City, 9614 £32 Berwick hy-cube, southern, 8627-6 £34 3 bay cylindrical hopper, ARCO, 7324-2 £33 42' coil steel car, Kansas City, 3002703-1 £37 50' PS-1 single door box car, Central of Georgia, 7599-1 £29 3 bay cylindrical hopper, southern Pacific, 7328-1 £33 45' trailer, Pacific fruit express, 8979-8 £14 53' Evans box car, c &nw , 3002300-1 £29 53' Evans box car, Vermont railway, 7528-2 £29 Atlas trainman ACF 50'6 box car, rail box, 2001060-3 £27 ACF 50'6 box car, rail box, 2001060-1 £27 Pullman standard, Burlington Northern, 2001663-1 £27 50'6 box car, family lines, 2001058-1 £27 40' sliding box car, Jersey central, £26 40' hy cube, Milwaukee, 858-2 £25 40' hy cube, Milwaukee, 858-1 £25 Locomotives: Weaver RS-3, Southern, #5009, older model £55 Weaver v0-1000 diesel, Central New Jersey, 15585 £79 Atlas MP-15DC BNSF, with sound, 3805-2 £215 Atlas sw900 phase 1, Raritan river, 7111-1 £140 Please let me know if you need any more information. ___________________________________________________________________ The RS3 (older Weaver model) may be the centrally-mounted Pittman motor version which runs smoothly. The VO-1000 is an interesting older prototype switcher, the Weaver model has twin-motor drive like MTH, Lionel and all Atlas locos except the EMD switchers, like the BNSF MP15DC listed. The SWs and MP15DCs are great runners, good price there with sound(QSI) that runs on DCC or DC with a sound control box between your 12vDC controller and the track. I've still got a couple of the sound boxes from my dealer days and I've used one on the Morecambe club track. Raritan River? What a nice shortline. Freight cars: the Coalveyors turn up individually in scrap metal, etc service now. No need to buy 100. The 60ft Berwick cars are Lovely, Massive, very desirable. I could go on - OK, the Trainman Railbox cars have the diagonal panel roof, much more common than the Weaver x-panel. Peartree here in the UK do a 2'8" wheelset usable for 2-railing MTH 36" wheel prototypes. Phew, dog walk time, getting twitchy there. Jason
  10. Must admit I can't say where Kruschev was, but when my dad dropped my mum off at work before taking me on to school on the crisis peak morning, mum said, "Have a good day, if we don't see each other again - I love you both." Hadn't a clue what she was on about. If only she'd said let's paint one of your wagons with that Welsh wine name ... I'd have had something to say then. Jason
  11. Hmmmmm ... FreemO. How do we start? Is this American standard http://home.earthlink.net/~mcjackson/Free-Mo_O_Scale_Standards.pdf a bit heavyweight? I was spoilt up in Morecambe with a huge O-scale 4-track track Club layout for us to run long American trains on (www.mandhmrc.com next American day Sunday 15 March), but after my move down south a home layout looks necessary, so keep the pics coming Nick. Jason
  12. Apropos of nothing at all, as an O-scaler of '70s and early '80s I have to agonise over what roof to use when the photo only shows the sides and ends, and the ends of the roof ribs. For a start 50ft boxcars with PS ends have PS roofs, with IDE ends and 14 roof rib ends have diagonal panel roofs, with 10 roof rib ends have X-panel roofs. Repairs/rebuilds don't count, Reading boxcars acquired by the D&H at Conrail formation forced this on me. Yes they're still packed away for this protracted house move - sobbing starts again.... Jason
  13. Apologies to Brian, not a hijack, but David have you still got the F40/GP40 stuff? Merry Christmas ... whatever! Jason Dickie
  14. Jamie, I moved south in August and your long thread with posts referencing Lancaster and Morecambe's railways has certainly made me melancholy. Anyway, I belonged to the Morecambe & Heysham MRC with members running 0-gauge Black Fives, etc with Green Ayre allocation (can't guarantee shed plates!). Harry Lewis, Club Chairman, was a fireman at Green Ayre, maybe has a tale to tell. You did say you had some American models didn't you? Well the club has a large (28 times round is a mile) 0-gauge layout, British Open Days second Saturday of the month with an Open Day for American running on the Sunday. Rolling stock provided if you just want to run locos. Yes, we've had PRR boxcabs, but pantos down and Big Boys etc manage the Peco track no prob. http://www.mandhmrc.com Jason
  15. Nice project. I used to walk the dog on the bit of embankment that was left on the way to MacDonalds, drive to Northampton on the trackbed, well new bit of A43, past the old bridges, as well as hear strange echoes in Tesco.... Jason
  16. If that was Quince Valley Designs, that's me. In the process of moving from Morecambe to Hampshire. Remaining American O-scale stock is in accessible-slowly storage, lots of parts as well as rolling stock. Work should start on a list soon .... Specific requests can still go to jasonATquincevalleydesigns.co.uk (yes, AT=@) or just mail me your phone number. Planning to be at Leigh in April and Winchester if that starts again in 2015. Jason Dickie
  17. Pete Just get Youtube up (the nine little squares icon top right in Google window as you know) and type fmnut in the search box. He's got well over 200 uploads. 'D-L Vine St branch' got me thinking about layouts......... Must get that LokSound chip into my RS3. First loco I painted in D&H Lightning Stripe in the early '70s. Yikes that's 40 years Jason
  18. Sorry if this has already been mentioned - just came across fmnut on youtube, lots of shortline, street running, etc great stuff. Back to watching his collection........ Jason
