It's a very 'niche' model and will not attract the sort of sales that say a Jinty would attract and therefore the costs will have to be passed onto the customer.

I hear what you are saying ,But by putting the price were it is. There a lot of potential customers that will say: I like it but will pass on the price.
On The Niche part. Prototype locos have sold well in the UK model market in the past. I think KR models are on there 3rd run of GT3. Some niche models can have wide appeal if priced well.

Well yesterday, the smoking NDM was returned. The repair note stated "new chassis assembly fitted, new pantograph fitted". There was no defect with the pantograph, other than it's rubbish, so maybe it got damaged in transit or during repair. However they replaced it with the early pantograph instead of the high speed one it was sent with. This is getting tiresome. No wonder Hornby and Simon Kohler didn't go to Model Rail Scotland, I think there would of been a few angry customers!

    Neil.

They have chicked out of Alexandra Palace show to LOL

  3. I wonder what Hornby are going to be doing with all these broken returns .
Will they have enough body shells to fix the broken returned  models . Or will they have to commission a second run to replace the broken body shells. Or will they have enough in stock .

  4. We all know Hornby has not yet got a final  date for when 5 and 7 cars will be avaible. Yes there is date on there website but it changes all the time.
If they left 1 week ago from the factory in china we would still have 7 weeks wait. About 2nd week of January. The guy in china might get it direct. Hence he has it for sale now .
Do  Hornby anounce when items are in transet ?

That body side gap is a bit of an eyesore

I see what you mean. In the 1st sec of the vid you get a good side on of the nose. Something dosent look wright on the joint line. Looks like its bulging, It could be the light causing that. What is clear the pantograph looks poor. Its not even stright.

Looking at images of the new NDM, the body of the old & new NDM's look very similar in the way the bogies interface with the body

It may be possible to put the chassis from the new NDM into the old NDM body with little or no modification

I currently have 2 original APT's  2+1+2 ( the NDM has been repowered with Heljan Class 33 parts in a scratch built chassis that the body rotates around much like the new NDM)

& 2+2+5 ( One NDM has no power bogies & the second NDM has 2 power bogies (both original ringfield types))

Somewhere between London Airport & me is a New NDM  which would have been the second powered NDM for a 14 car set

If the rumour is true that the 7 car APT comes with 2 powered NDM'' then the guts of the extra new NDM may well end up inside an old NDM

    John

I was lead to belive in the 7 car set 1 NDM was powered and the Other was dummy. This is the first time I have seen some say both NDM will be powered in the 7 car set

It'd appear the answer is yes, it was simply a straight re-numbering. There aren't that many pics to back it up but I can't see any obvious external differences.

As far as I can gather the conversion from gas turbine was undertaken between January and October 1958.  On release it it retained black / silver livery and was still carrying gas turbine number 18100 for a short while on test in the Styal area before being re-numbered to E1000.  Every pic I've seen of E1000, about 6 and all undated, the body-side cycling lion emblem carried whilst gas turbine had been replaced with the ferret & dartboard. The earliest dated pic I can find of E2001 is May 1960 so didn't carry the E1000 number for very long.

Thanks for the info . Very Helpfull

  8. Went to day . One thing I liked was on Sunday Children got in for Free.
    Some very nice layouts.
As for the whole covid thing. Thoes who want to wear a mask can, and thoes who dont do not. Walking around the majority of people do not want them,

  9. Saw the Model to day running. Looks Fantastic. Tried to see if I could see that Capacitor but could not get a low enough angle . The model ran very well and the paint looked perfect. Looking foward to getting my one.

5 car pack now listed for December 2021.

7 car pack now listed for January 2022.

Coach packs listed for October 2021.

    Thanks for the info.
I can see that causing some problems. As many model shops dont know if they are getting there full amount.  So you get your add on coaches but find out in late 2021 or early 2022 you dont get main part of the set.
I will be asking for the shop to keep it as one sale. Ie no 7 car set then no add on coaches .

What decoder is being used for the sound? If, at some later date, sound recordings of the original were found and the sound used for this release is found to be 'incorrect', would it be possible to get it reprogrammed with a new set of sounds compiled to be closer to the original?

My current pre-order is for the non-sound fitted one. I like the idea of the sound version, but the extra cost is not insignificant and knowing the investment could be 'corrected' at a later date would give me some reassurance I wasn't feeling I could potentially be wasting money.

    Hi

That was what I am think. Given the price of the sound option and the amount of diffrent sounds they show on you tube. I would hope it would be an ESU V5.

  12. Are Horby going to be to put up a list on there website showing what shops are in what Tier?

Will Tier one shops get stickers for there windows etc.

It will be intresting when people phone up model shops to pre order 2022 items. Hello what Tier are you ? The reply the shop gives could very well decied if they get that pre order.
How many of us would have ordered a W1 or APT from a Tier 2 or 3 shop now we the Tier system .
