  1. I have successfully used Mr Muscle oven cleaner to strip the paint off Hornby Dublo metal locos. Spray the model and then seal it in a plastic bag for an hour or two. It may need longer depending on the paint. I haven’t tried Dettol but I’ve read that it’s only the brown variety that strips paint.

The usual advice about working in a well ventilated space and wearing gloves applies.

The Dublo 2 rail version was something of a failure as the bogie tended to tip and lose contact with the rails. I fitted all wheel pickup to my two rail conversion including the wheels with traction tyres. She has since been reconverted to 3 rail * (ages ago), so I can't give the actual details unfortunately.

I now have a D8000 and a 3 rail D8017. The D8017 has a reversed magnet to allow nose to nose  double haulage as per prototype.

I solved the issue of the pick-up bogie lifting off the rails by adding some extra weight to the connecting bar above that bogie.

I just looked up the ticket pricing strategy.  That's moronic.  How many visitors will be there on holiday for a week and only want one day on the railway?  They won't come, but the locals will buy a ticket and ride ten times, generating no revenue.  Did they do a survey first, or any basic modelling?

SVR was giving free return trips last year but the maximum risk they took was one non-paying visit per full price ticket sold, and the free trip couldn't be used for galas.

We holidayed in Whitby twice in the last couple of years and both times have considered a ride on the NYMR, but were put off by the price of the tickets. I don’t want a ticket which is effectively an annual pass as it’s very unlikely that I’ll be back in that area within the next 12 months. I just want one day out but I’m not prepared to pay for an annual pass when I’m not able to use it because I don’t happen to live on the doorstep.
