Good to see a painted sample.  Initial reactions - the model does appear to capture the general 'hulk' of the prototype, however, and it's a BIG however... the roof profile is still clearly incorrect, the knock-on effect being an overly slab-sided cabside, along with the all-important windscreen profile being horribly wrong:

It will be a really splendid model if these fundamental shape issues are to be corrected, Heljan?

The main bodyside grill is also lacking any representation of the visible inner framework, although I hear that this latter issue is being addressed...

    Best

The same errors are on the 0 gauge model so not a surprise that the 00 gauge model is the same really.

  2. Ballasting as now been started.

On previous layouts I used Woodland scenics ballast but have decided to try DCC Concepts legacy ballast on this layout.

I have used brownish blend on the stabling point and using light grey blend on all other lines, so far I am very impressed with the appearance which will be further enhanced with track weathering.

47535 has now been fitted with coupling bars at both ends to allow pipe detailing to be fitted, I have glued these to behind the buffers as I didn't want to drill any holes in the model.

56049 has also had buffer beam detailing fitted but only at 1 end as it will only operate 1way round the layout on the mgr rake.

    Cheers for now.

  3. Hello again,

A bit more progress during the lockdown.

Platforms have now been filled, sprayed and sanded.

I may add slab edgings or leave them as they are.

Lights will be fixed in permanently when ballasting is completed.

  4. Hello,

Port Carlisle MK1 was on RMweb previously as a semi portable 10'x9' layout of a fictitious location on the WCML in the back bedroom.

When not in use 4 baseboards were portable and stored above and below the fiddle yard so the bedroom and bed could still be used as normal when not 'playing trains'.

Ok in theory but the bed down the middle of the room became a real obstacle when erecting and operating the layout.

So a re-think was in order and after removing the wardrobe from the room and eliminating the fiddle yard a better layout has been achieved but still keeping the original idea of a terminus station with continuous running.

The layout is now permanent along the scenic sections with a lifting section at the doorway and 1 removable baseboard above the bed, the station and 2 sidings now occupy where the fiddle yard was located and a 4 road stabling point occupies where the wardrobe was.

Layout control is the excellent NCE Powercab with USB interface, point control is achieved through JMRI via seep point motors powered by DCC Concepts solenoid point decoders making route switching a doddle!IMG_20200419_130754776.jpg.163aaad79c8d505fa0dbd5871aec93f9.jpgView of the station throat, platforms are a work in progress and require a final coat of textured paint, the 'wonky' lights are not secured yet.IMG_20200419_131107776.jpg.e1661fdda7f559b60925338a7acdf423.jpgPort Carlisle's 4 platform terminus station, the 2 lines in the foreground are the continuous run round the room, the 2 lines in the background are a postal storage siding and a cement terminal siding.IMG_20200419_131048185.jpg.927136231e860a3552bb7e31b6e349a0.jpg47535 departs Port Carlisle with a trans-pennine express and passes the stabling point. The 2 lines in the foreground are the storage run round loops that allow loco hauled trains to run round and return to Port Carlisle's terminus station.

Hope to get lots more done during the lockdown.

    Cheers for now.

Passing through Buxton I noticed this, probably because the vegetation is thin at the moment. Picture from Google as I couldn't stop to take one, but it is next to Aldi car park. Can't correlate it with any old stuff so I think it is probably from Peak Rail's use of the site.

The site is currently been cleared of undergrowth by a re-started Buxton Peak Rail branch, think the council have been on Peak Rails back about developing the site.

My only request for this project is that you add a little Jeremy Corbyn sitting on the floor in one of the VTEC coaches! :D

He would have to be removable so he could be out at the first station, then in at the second, then back out at the third!

  7. After a bit of research it looks like 45118 Royal Artilleryman never carried its nameplates in its final years in BR service, these being removed at Toton in August 1986 when it received its high intensity headlight.
