  1. I never had a dock shunter in my youth but always fancied one. Managed to put a small collection together a few years back at toy fairs etc. Must dig them out and get some pics sometime as I think I bought quite a few
  2. Interesting when you compare the space you have in O to that in OO/HO. I like the restraint in your design and the progress you are making; I'm think simple and achievable is a good option when applied to most layout concepts and the consistent results you have shown with your previous layouts means that this will be another winner
  3. Nothing like getting the track and buildings out and doing some planning to see what fits and works. After the destruction it is good to see the new format taking shape.
  4. Nice new goodies :-) I should really get one of each of those freight cars for when I am NYC mode but the temporary layout is in CB&Q at present. The weathered vehicles on the overpass look very realistic.
  5. Dear Dr G-F, This looks very natural and prototypical and may be your best yet. Now hide your tools so that you aren't tempted to rip it all up sometime soon
  6. In ref to post #33; once I chipped my DCC ready Bachmann Alco S-2 it became one of the smoothest running non-sound locos I have, comparable to my Proto 2000 Alco S-1 or my Atlas Alco HH-660 which are both sweet runners that will crawl along so slowly they barely move. I plan to upgrade the other Bachmann factory fitted DCC non-sound locos on my roster. You could have shown how you made the grade crossing, fettling it from a Shreddies packet across two or three posts, making it a....... serial
  7. I went into model Junction yesterday to pick up a loco that I've had on pre-order since December and walked out with an NCE Powercab too! I've enjoyed reading through your thread seeing your project steadily progress: I need to sort myself out with a small layout to run my stock on.... but I've been saying that for years now!
  8. Whilst I've drifted a little the BN and the predecessor roads that went to form it still hold great appeal for me as they were the ones that really stimulated my interest in US railroads a few years back. CB&Q and GN are my favourites of the bunch and Rocky remains a great logo.
  9. The shed looks like this Walters kit but maybe cut-down to one bay/door? http://www.modeljunction.info/estore/product_info.php?cPath=25_34_42&products_id=151 I only recognise it as I had the very same kit in my hands at Model Juction a couple of weeks back but decided to buy something different in the end. Excellent photos and stoytelling as usual Peter.
  10. The A Line site re-directs you to Walthers who stock a range of their products. http://www.walthers.com/exec/manuinfo/116/A_Line_Product.html Including replacement gears. http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/116-40005 I like the unorthodox look of the BL1/2 and the RI or BAR liveries are much more exciting than the black of my favoured Western Maryland.
  11. I did the very same thing last night St. Albans..... don't bother with railway exhibitions much these days but may be worth the trip to see and hear this layout.
  12. I have enjoyed reading through your thread over the past couple of days and like the little stories behind each photo and the reasoning for the motive power and stock to appear on your little slice of America. Switches and road switchers are my favourite locos so plenty of interest for me here and I like the variation in roadnames that you use speaking as someone who despite sticking to a rough geographical area likes railroads because of their colours and logos
  13. I had a lot of fun with a temporary 6 X 4 roundy that I set up in the front room about this time last year. All Peco Setrack so no pretensions of accuracy but I could run trains, hold them in sidings (loops) whilst running a different consist and with ample spurs there was the opportunity to switch when the mood took me. With switchers, road switchers and 50` or less cars it worked well for me and powering up the Bachmann sound equipped Alco S4 was positively addictive yet strangely relaxing after a day at work. I should get my backside in gear and build the permanent enlarged 8 X 5 ish version of the same layout sometime and get back to having model railroading fun rather than simply thinking about it!
  14. I really like the atmosphere in the black & white photo of your layout. I've seen the 28th Street photo recently when looking on the web at the NYHRR layout under construction.
