  1. Somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind I recall this layout at Central Hall. I think I recall best the BR Standard 2-6-2 tank hauling the 3 suburban coaches. Be fair - it was over 60 years ago! I'm pleased that this pioneer is having new life breathed into it, it does deserve it.Maybe one day  it will be exhibited again.

  2. RhB on N gauge. (Near enough) So I have coming one wish which is the ABB liveried Allegra unit. However what I would really like are some of the RhB log carriers and the unit carriers along with some 20 foot tank ISO containers for the existing well wagons. Thinking about it any new wagons would be welcome!!

Mr Kato has been silent on new moulds for the RhB this yearso here's hoping!

Noch extras Holcim & BUGA are in the shops now. Just received my invoice from Train Trax.

At TrainTrax's price I'll get mine in Europe thank you. I did get the last two from Keith but I'm not paying another £29 on a locomotive that is a UK £88 model redecorated. A GREAT oppotunity for good vynil sides here I think.

  4. EVERBODY is disappointed in B&Q ply, ready bowed or straight! The best thing to do is generate a cutting list for an 8x4 sheet and get in touch with Avon Ply near Bath who will quote, cut and have it delivered. My understanding is they now they can cut curves - intensionally!

  5. Hello MrTea,

I love Revell paints, second only to Rustolium sprays, so I am appreciative of that. Of course I'll post photos but not quite yet - a coat of Halfords primer first I think.

    Keep Safe,

Managed to get some time last night to do a bit more landscape work on the layout.

First job was ballasting the track between the bridge at Crestas and Plaz tunnel.

I’m always amazed how much better Unitrack looks once it’s had a ballast shoulder added to blend it into the landscape. You can see I added a bit too much washing up liquid to the PVA mix last night - it was all a bit green for a while!

I also added a fascia of mount board to the front of this section, which has tidied up the look a lot. Then finally I spent an hour or so on the plaster bandage layer on the adjacent board.

All in all, a productive evening’s work.

I'm using Kato track on a Japanese themed layout. I too have had green ballast only it stayed that way which was annoying so now I use Kato's own ballast which I wet using Surgical Spirit using a dropper tube and then I use "Ballast Magic" on top of that. It nevers eems to quite go off which has the advantage that if, like me, you want to change a turnout you can actually dig the offender out without too many problems.

I'm really enjoying this thread. Keep it up!

  7. Thanks Guys. I've been messing about with a piece of 1mm plywood, sanding it, staining it and then sanding off the raised grain. I have some dark Oak dye but I also have Revell #84, a really dark brown and there is also Humbrol #173 - Track Colour to consider. A way to go yet. Jim Easterbrook - could you publish more photos of your model please?

  8. Hi Folks,

I have quietly acquired both kits by "Die Modellbahnwerkstat"in Wuppertal for "Rueun" station. Now there are assembly instructions a-plenty for these laser cut kits and I'll probably use my favourite Canopy 560 white glue for assembly. So far, so good but the problem comes at painting. From the photos I've seen and got, especially from Google Maps, the buildings are that rather wonderful aged pine colour, almost black but not quite. Has anybody out there got experience of painting these kits and what would they recommend and how would you use them? These two kits are expensive and had to be bought through friends in Europe as "Die Modellbahnwerkstat" did not want the hassle of paying VAT to the UK Government but then neither do I.

I notice that Traintrax have the newly announced baggage car and EW1 re-runs available for pre-order.

Also the UNESCO Landwasser viaduct Ge4/4-III.

Hobbysearch says that their third most popular item currently is the Luggage Van. Other RhB items feature in their Top 20. I hope Mr Kato is watching.

  10. OK, a really BIG question. Does the original Berrow Branch still exist? If so does anybody know who owns it and how can I get in touch? The reason is stunningly simple. I'm starting to organise an exhibition in Weston super Mare for 16 months time and I'd rather like to invite it back to its spiritual home as it was originally built at RAF Locking which is in Weston super Mare, or rather was as it's submerging under new housing like everywhere else.

If anybody can tell me I'd be very grateful.

  11. Thank you for that. Yes, the station track plan is out of date but it has dimensions and giving the lengths quoted above I'm sure something can be organised. Seemingly following Brexit the most difficult bit will be persuading shops to deduct the VAT equivalent at their end so we don't end up paying VAT twice. Thankfully Peco still live in Beer, an ambition I failed to realise on any level! :D.

  12. Somebody at some time pointed me to a document which has trackplans of all the RhB stations together with significant dimensions like loop lengths and track spacings. Does anybody recognise this and could they direct me to it please?
