  2. The British Rail Class 153 Super Sprinters are single-coach railcars converted from two-coach Class 155 diesel multiple units in the early 1990s. The class was intended for service on rural and branch lines where passenger numbers do not justify longer trains. In 1987/88, Regional Railways took delivery of 35 two-coach Class 155 units built by Leyland Bus at its Workington factory to replace older DMUs. In 1989, the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE) took delivery of seven two-coach units for use in Yorkshire. After the Class 155s entered service, it became an emerging requirement for ageing rural and branch line trains to be replaced. In the early 1990s, British Rail decided to convert the Regional Railways Class 155 fleet into single-coach multiple units and to replace its fleet of Class 121 and 122 diesel railcars. In 1990, British Rail awarded a contract to Hunslet-Barclay with the work completed at its Kilmarnock plant in 1991/92. Seventy single-coach Class 153 multiple units were created and numbered 153301-335 and 153351-385. Individual coaches are numbered 52301-335 and 57351-385 (originally 57301-335). The seven WYPTE Class 155s were not included in the project. The layout of the original non-cab ends was different from the original cab end, so the ends are noticeably distinct, and the vehicles are not symmetrical. Their maximum speed is 75 mph and they generally operate less busy local services. They are fitted with standard BSI coupling and are able to work in tandem with other multiple units. This limited run model produced for us by Dapol features: Finely detailed body with many extra fitted items 5 pole Super Creep Motor with excellent controllable slow running speed All wheel drive (in motor equipped units) and all wheel pick up Directional lights (switchable) Light bar ready DCC Ready with provision for a 18 pin decoder Due December 2020 GM2210401 Class 153 329 First Great Western Revised £124.95 each GM2210402 Class 153 380 GWR Green £124.95 each Prices correct at time of publication
  3. It is with a heavy heart that we have inevitably had to cancel our 2020 Model Railway Open Weekend in September, due to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic. We cannot predict what restrictions will still be in place at that time and we want it to be absolutely safe for visitors and staff to be on site over the weekend before any event takes place. As we are now welcoming shoppers back to our physical store in West Sussex and restrictions are being eased, we hope that we will be able to hold events in one form or another in the future, and an Open Weekend in September 2021. Keep an eye on our website and RIGHT LINES for details in the new year.

  6. Due to popular demand we are re-running our Track Cleaning Wagon, previously available in Network Rail livery (GM4430101). As you can see from the image above, this new run is in Railfreight livery, so it will be more suitable for layouts set in a slightly earlier era. This is the evergreen PIKO Track Cleaning vehicle with a modern British twist. Fitted with NEM tension lock couplings, this vehicle is hauled around your layout and dust is collected by the track cleaning pads mounted underneath the wagon. This wagon is in no way prototypical but will be an essential part of keeping your track clean. A replacement cleaning pad can be purchased under reference GM4930101. 9. In Stock Now GM7240101 61xx Large Prairie 6111 BR Unlined Green Weathered This classic C.B. Collett design for the Great Western Railway was a development of the '51XX' general purpose 'Large Prairie'. The boiler pressure was increased to 225Ib sq/ft giving the locomotives the extra power and better acceleration needed to work intensive Thames Valley suburban services from London Paddington towards Reading and Oxford. This class of 70 examples proved to be ideally suited for this work and remained dominant until the arrival of BR suburban DMUs in the late-1950s and early-1960s. FEATURES - DCC Ready - Sprung Buffers This is a limited edition of just 25 pieces, uniquely and exquisitely weathered by our friend, Adrian Butler at "DIRTY BOY!" weathering. It needs to be hauled by a locomotive as the often described ‘motorised’ element of this item reflects the motor driving the cleaning heads and not the movement of the model. It works by the track cleaning vehicle supplying a small amount of cleaning fluid and then polishing the rails with the rotating pads. A full range of spares and fluids are available in the Dapol range. Please note that Track Cleaning Fluid is not supplied with the model. So, all in all, it's the same as the hugely successful Dapol OO Scale version, but in N! GM2250101 Track Cleaning Vehicle Network Rail Yellow

  16. A couple of us ‘of a certain age’ here fondly remember the local scene of the late 1980s. Two of the more distinctive locomotives that passed us here at Ford from time to time on the Brighton to Cardiff Central trains were 33008 ‘Eastleigh’ in its BR Green livery and 33025 ‘Sultan’ with its light grey roof. When we were given the chance to replicate these two items, we jumped at the chance, especially when our friends at Heljan agreed to apply the most subtle of weathering to really capture the locomotives in the condition they were most frequently seen when passing our offices. 20. Designed by Charles Collett, the GWR 6100 Class was introduced in 1931 as a development of the 5101 Class, the main difference being an increased boiler pressure and subsequent improvement of tractive effort. There were 70 in the class built between 1931 and 1935 specifically for commuter services from Paddington to various home counties destinations such as Aylesbury, Oxford, Windsor and Reading. Most were looked after by the depots of Old Oak Common, Southall, Slough, Reading and Aylesbury where they stayed until the end of steam on the Western Region in 1965, rarely straying from their home turf. Following their replacement on passenger duties by first generation diesel multiple units, they ended up on more general duties before they were ultimately scrapped. It was, however, a more happy ending for 6106 which ended up as the sole survivor from this class. Having been withdrawn from service in 1967 from Oxford depot, it was bought by a private individual who housed it in the old Taplow goods shed where it was steamed when possible until it was able to move to the Didcot Railway Centre in 1967. Upon moving to Didcot, 6106 was frequently used and occasionally guested at other preserved railways too. It has also featured in several films, most notably “The Bliss of Miss Blossom” where it was painted in psychedelic colours and powered through a faux snowstorm at Taplow much to the surprise of other drivers! Currently out of service, we really hope to see 6106 back in action again soon. As appealing as modelling 6106 in the previously mentioned psychedelic colour scheme, we’re offering it in GWR unlined green as part of this starter set, which really lends itself to modelling a small shed, goods yard or maybe even your own preserved railway. 21. The Class 66 is a type of six‐axle diesel electric freight locomotive developed in part from the Class 59, for use on the railways of the UK. Since its introduction, the class has been successful and has been sold to many British and European operators. The first locomotive shipped to the UK arrived at Immingham in June 1998 and was taken to Derby for testing. The second was taken to AAR's Pueblo Test Centre for endurance testing, before shipping to the UK. The locomotives then shipped at a rate of 11 per month into the UK via Newport Docks until the order was completed in December 2001. After unloading, EWS engineers then simply took off the tarpaulin, unblocked the suspension and finally as each was shipped with water and fuel, hooked up the batteries before starting the engine and handing the locomotive into service. The ability to simply start up the 66s on the dockside and drive them under their own power to depots to enter service was nothing short of a revelation when compared to many other BR locomotives. There were over 500 examples built, such was the success of the design. The model will have the following features: Operating front/rear lights (independent operation for DCC, switched for DC use) including day/night mode Operating side lights where lighting cluster is applicable Cab light (independent operation) Illuminated cab control panel Two balanced and matched motors for maximum pulling power and slow speed runnning DC control switches accessible via a lift off roof panel 21 pin DCC ready Etched grilles with through body transparency Separately fitted details such as handrails, handles and grilles Heavyweight diecast chassis Diecast bogie frames Sprung centre wheel Rotating axle centres Appropriate couplings attached Sprung buffers Expertly applied livery Officially licensed DB product GM7210401 Class 66 Diesel Locomotive 66009 DB Red AVAILABLE 2020
