  1. I've toyed with the idea of buying a 3D printer many times over the years, this is quite inspirational stuff!
  2. I hope nobody minds me resurrecting this thread, but i'm in the early stages of a similar layout myself. Absolutely facinating photographs and info from everyone. My Grandparents lived just down the line in Wendover and I spent a lot of my 80's watching the Class 115's trundling along. On that note, other than scratchbuilding, is there any other feasible way of creating a 115 unit? They were such a big part of the scene there in the 80's that it almost seems pointless creating an 80's Aylesbury if I can't have any of the venerable 115's on the line! Andrew
  3. Excellent work! I am new to 3D printing and relatively new to 'proper' railway modelling so the Mars would probably suit my needs as a beginner. As far as I can tell from reviews and on here - and because I don't understand some of the technical aspects! - the end result in terms of the detail is almost identical, it is just that the Saturn can do it in a larger scale and quicker? I realise thats a very simplified evaluation from a simplified mind!
  4. Damn damn damn, I missed out on the pre-orders! Looks like i'm going to have to wait for the general release, whenever that is....or get the Mars.
  5. I've just ordered it Simon, looking forward to its arrival. As a signalling novice (as well as building my first real layout) I find the subject quite daunting - hopefully no more!
  6. Hi Alain, I have just worked my way through this whole thread (slowly because i'm supposed to be working!) and I must say - for a novice like me - this is truly inspiring. I say novice, i've been modelling off and on since I was a child, but never 'seriously' - it is this kind of thing which gets me a step closer! Thank you and keep up the amazing work. Andrew
  7. I have never seen a donkey eat strawberries! I had to find a solution as I work from home and my job requires me to be online 7 days a week. Luckily Vodafone do a unlimited data, unlimited speed dongle which I got for a relatively resonable cost and it means I can take it with me when I want to work on the move too. I get between 25-30 Meg download speeds, whilst not blistering quick i'm able to do everything Ineed with it!
  8. Thanks for the replies guys, that makes greater sense to me now. I blame the red wine.
  9. Thanks for the great review, first time I have come across your videos. Due to moving during the Coronavirus pandemic, I have had to sign up to mobile broadband instead of WiFi. I use the mobile dongle as I would a normal broadband connection - would this work with my internet connection? I understand you probably won't know the answer, but I thoguht i'd give it a try. Thanks! Andrew
  10. I don't tend to re-read books, but I have a fantastic book by a write called Christian Wolmar, called the Subterranean Railway. It is fantastic, which I don't say lightly, covering the whole history of LU from before and beyond, and I think i'm right in saying (another reason why I have to re-read, my memory makes a collander look like a saucepan) it covers all of the lines and their preceding incarnations. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Subterranean-Railway-Underground-Changed-Forever/dp/0857890697/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=london+underground+history&qid=1570267319&sr=8-3 Hope that helps, and apologies if I am barking up the wrong tree with that - it might not be specific to what you asked for, but you'll come out knowing all sorts of things you didn't know or didn't even know you wanted to know!
  11. I didn't imagine my first post on the forum would be about pylons...but there you go! I find these aspects of our landscapes fascinating (both visually and historically/socially) and will be an important part of my layout. Off topic, but I also want to somehow get some more Brutalist architecture in to my layout in the form of military bunkers and that kind of thing. I think i'll discern just as much (if not more!) enjoyment out of pylons and other such structures as I will out of the trains themselves
  12. Very simple really - I ordered some scenery products at about 2pm yesterday and they arrived to my door at 10am the following morning without me having to pay extra for the priviledge. Not only do they stock things that I haven't seen elsewhere, but they get it too you super quickly which is important when you are a big small child like me! Well done guys, great service.
  13. Hey - I ordered RM Gold Membership on the 10th and other than the confirmation of my order, I haven't heard anything yet. I signed up to the forum after I had ordered RMGold if that makes any difference (Serial lurking). I know there was a notice saying it could take up to 3 days (which we're at) but I wonderd if any of the mods could check the status of my order? By the way I have emailed the subs department at Warners, I just thought i'd try this way too. Andrew
