Is the decoder an 8 pin on a lead or one of the other multipin decoders?

Do you know the decoder's make?

It’s 8 pin, so I’m thinking the white and yellow will do the headlight direction depending. Then use the green an purple ( free from harness) to operate the tail lights independently

  2. I have a Hornby class 47 TTS sound decoder in my Vitrains class 47, sounds good with a new bass reflex speaker. I’m trying to increase the start voltage but can’t seem to find which cv I need to adjust.

Does anyone know which cv I need to adjust?

    Thanks

  3. Thank you Richard

Am I right in saying that a decoder that requires a 4 ohm speaker can use a 4 or 8 ohm. Where as a decoder that requires a 8 ohm speaker can’t use a single 4 ohm speaker.

sorry for all the questions, whilst I am a seasoned modeller I have not done a lot of sound decoder fitting so far

    Thanks

  4. I have a 21 pin sound decoder to fit to my Bachmann class 09. With the limited space I have fitted the decoder up right at the grill end. The plan is to fit the speaker in the cab. The speaker supplied is far to big to fit, my problem is finding a 4 ohm sugar cube speaker. I can find plenty of 8 ohm but no 4.

Has anyone got any suggestions where I  can get a 4 ohm sugar cube or another way of fitting the decoder/speaker

    Thanks in advance

I don't know how Hornby got the Vep so wrong, when the Bil and Hal are so good.

To get my Vep running properly, i've snipped of the capacitor's on the motor and completely stripped it down to removed any excess lubricant. I've changed the wheels and got rid of the traction tyres, and put a huge amount of weight in the power car to compensate. Finally, all the non-powered bogies have had the axles drilled out and replaced with brass bearings and pin-point axles, and it nows runs OK..... just about.

Hiya where abouts is the capacitor please? It’s worth the effort to remove it.

    Thanks

  6. I have had a play with CV 54 & 55. I put cv 54 to 5 and cv 55 to 55, this has made a dramatic improvement.

The downside I didn’t have all the coach’s in the train when I test run it. Under load it preforms slightly worse, just needs a bit more cv tweaking I hope. A learning for next time!

Looking at the traction tyres they are on one axle both sides

will post the final cv settings

  7. I have decided to put a decoder in my Hornby Vep now that I have added 3rd rail to my layout. I have used a Bachmann 36-566 decoder. The unit runs but it’s is very jerky and iratic. the running quality is not that great.

Anyone else experienced this? Any tips to cure this issue?

    Thanks in advance

The Legomanbiffo one has Electric & Diesel sounds that can be switched over on the move, just like the real locos.  Sound of course depends on speaker types.  Bass is better than the standard sugarcube that comes with the V5.  Or the Zimo Double Dumbo.

    See the Movie !!!!

Order placed!!! Looking forward to delivery. Can you send me a link for the speakers you recommend please

    Thanks

    Hi Andy,

I would have thought that Peter’s Spares was your best option.  I’ll ask around and see what I can find out though I make no promises.

The problem is that they no longer make the Networker, hence the lack of spares. Its a real pain. I have considered looking at the Pendolino driving axles but on closer examination they don't look the same

  10. I'm looking for spares for my Hornby Networker, I'm looking for X8212 which is the "Power bogie wheel/axle set" (see picture attached). I have tried all the usual place without any luck to date.

I know this is a bit of a long shot but if anyone has a wheel set they are willing to part with then please get in contact. Any help would be much appreciated

    Thank you

  11. Hi

I am looking for a pair of Hornby X9784 Class 56 coupling cams complete with springs which seem to be out of stock everywhere.

If anyone has a pair which they are willing to part with could you please message me.

    Thank you

  12. Would be louder if it was 4 ohms.     Charlie

Can you use a 4 ohms speaker instead of 8 ohms speaker if the sound chip is rated at 8 ohms? Or do you need to use 2 x 4 ohms?

    Thanks

    Andy

  13.  I have replace the speaker on a Vitrains class 37 and 47, i used a bass reflex speaker which greatly improved the sound quality. The only watch out as stated above make sure the new speaker is the correct 8-ohms rating

    Regards
