  1. School has put this project on hold for a bit but I will update this once I have time to work on it and get a nice drill set to open the boiler and clear space on the chassis. In the meantime I'm planing on how I shall build the L&YR Atlantic. It will most likely involve me making my own chassis and general shape of the loco unless I'm able to find the millholme kit on ebay for international shipping, someone announces a rtr model, or if a 3d printable version of it becomes available. Joseph
  2. So, I've been looking around at pre-grouping 2-4-0's and 4-4-0's and have found the ratio kits. I would like to get one to go with my Class 28 dressed up as a Lanky engine (know it's not accurate but I think it would look nice) but it seems that the chassis aren't that good. I know there was a new chassis made in the 80's but I haven't seen any around. Does anyone know an easy way for a yank to get them or should I just try to machine it myself?

  3. I do wonder what will be the most bought out of the first batch. I'm betting the southern region ones will be sold out quicker than any of the others.
  4. Sanded and painted it again and got the E4 I'm going to use for the chassis. Just need to gut the boiler like a pumpkin and file down the motor.
  5. most who have given help and advice are planing on getting some. the ones grumbling about it aren't being very helpfully although i'm sure they will change there minds in a year or so.
  6. Doubt they will just sell the chassis. Just get the less in demand stock and use it.
  7. You possibly could do that but I'm not sure what you would need to do to make it fit. I wouldn't mind other's showing off their splendid engines.
  8. The Hornby 0-4-0 didn't turn out that well but the class 28 doesn't look that bad. Probably will sand it a bit and repaint tomorrow.
  9. I going to primer it and a Hornby 0-4-0 so expect better pictures of the model. Joseph
  10. I have been planing this Class 28 project for over a year. My intention is to build a fictional class 28 mogul that was designed but never made. I am using this 3D printed model by @Knuckles and modifying a E4 chassis to drive the model after my original intention of using a tender driven 4F went wrong. I haven't finished it nor am really close to finishing right now but i wanted to start a thread for it to show my progress and maybe get advice on some things about it.
  11. Really seems like this thread is just derailing into arguments about generic coaches vs "must fit the railway/railways I'm modeling and screw the rest of them". I personally think the last announcement was the best compromise before turning this to a "build it yourself painted kit" thing.
  12. I know others like the "proper smokebox door!" but I think they look better with the faces. Especially seeing how this is going to be a Sodor layout.
  13. Pretty sure every steam era modeler's wallet is heaving except the ones waiting for batch 3.
  14. would be a nightmare to move that around curves without it falling off the rails or hitting something on another parallel track!
  15. Really excited to get some lanky coaches to run behind a lanky mogul I'm planing on building soon.
  16. I know posting on this zombie of a thread probably is going to be fruitless but does anyone know what has become of any kits for the lanky atlantic?
  17. Planning on building a L&YR Class 7 in oo gauge and looking for any info or tips on scratch-building it

I presume you mean the 1400 Class Highflyers.

      1) The largest driving wheel readily available is 7'0" whereas these were 7'3".  Not a huge problem as the flange will help visually in OO and wheels were turned down as they wore.

      2) Get a copy of Barry Lane's LYR Locomotives (I suspect you may have one).

      3) Join the LYR Society.

      4) There was an Ian Beattie drawing in the Feb 1985 Railway Modeller.

      5) There were two sorts of valance under the running plate and some locos were superheated for a while.

      6) You will have "fun" capturing the Belpaire firebox shape!

      7) Start a thread as you will capture more comments and opinions rather than relying on your profile.

If you are after a kit, look for a Millholme Models kit. They do come up quite often on eBay.

I have heard that Stevenson Carriages were planning on reissuing it. But it seems to be a bit quiet on that front.

I'm probably going to put this on hold for a bit and work more on a fictional lanky 2-6-0 that a few people may find familiar.
