It makes sense as an 0-4-2T which would have been quite conventional for the time. Presumably there was a need to get it round tight curves, but a Bissell truck would have been a better idea (see the LNWR box tanks and sundry narrow gauge 0-4-2Ts).
Maybe something like this?

Does it have to have a fat driver to prevent it tipping over onto it's front?
Well, let’s just say they’d need to have a fair few bacon baps to meet the job description…

What a fascinating locomotive! It looks more industrial, really. But for British Rail to own one, what classifcation would it have?
Thanks! I agree with @tythatguy1312 on the classification, makes sense.

Pedantry I know but Wadebridge is a West Country not an MN. Interesting photo.
Apologies, I can’t help getting the two mixed up, no matter how hard I try not to!

Sorry to pick this apart, but the 3rd driving axle is also going through the firebox/ashpan.
So it is! I can’t imagine it taking very kindly to being fired at all…

I do often wonder why a Shay or Climax was never geared for speed, while sacrificing some of their admirable strength in the process…

The boiler has been slightly extended to house a larger firebox, but what I had in mind when I witnessed the original photoshop was a banker, where the extra weight (and subsequent adhesive improvements) would be well received.

Honest question: would this need to be extended into an 0-8-0 in order to ensure that there's enough space for all of the internal bits?
Quite possibly, unless we go for a smaller engine - a new version will be made later.

Impressive idea @DenysW! Here’s a side-on edit, with some slight alterations in measurements - I couldn’t be completely accurate to the original I’m afraid.

Haven’t posted here in a while, so here’s a slightly more BR-style version - albeit with a bit more Sulzer influence than Crompton…
