  1. It is one of the 8-coach sets used on the fastest King Cross to Newcastle, Leeds, Bradford & Harrogate business services. Formation was 3TSO, RB, RU, 2FO, BFK although in the photo there is an RMB substituting for a non-available RB. First class had meal at seat service in the 2FO's hence the 2 catering cars to service the high demand. The most obvious candidate in the photo I guess would be the 11:25 KX-Leeds/Harrogate.
  2. 1M17 was the 11:00 Sheffield-St Pancras (via Nottingham) in both photographs.
  3. I think it was because the sliding quarterlights and other fittings were standard Mk1. There seemed to be certain engine speeds, especially when idling, that would resonate with the fittings. The trailer cars were fine in my experience and would be my choice for finding a seat.
  4. Looking at the May 1969 GN suburban loco-hauled and DMU workings, of the 16 Mon-Fri through KX-Cambridge services, only 3 were Cravens workings at 06:30, 07:20 and 10:04 departures. There was a Derby class 116 departure at 18:30 and the rest were loco-hauled. On Saturdays there were a lot more Cravens through workings and Sundays too. However, outside of peak times they wouldn't have been unsuitable (although of course they did rattle!) and they were reliable enough. When KX suburban services were electrified they all saw service elsewhere.
  5. Photos yesterday from Burton le Coggles: 1E07 is the 11:00 Edinburgh-KX 1L20 is the 14:20 KX-Leeds 1A25 is the 14:14 Cleethorpes-KX 1E11 is the 12:00 Edinburgh-KX 1N18 is the 15:00 KX-Newcastle
  6. 1A33 is the 15:00 Newcastle-KX. The last 3 coaches were a Tyne Commission Quay portion on certain days.
  7. Interesting that the fixed distant has gained a smaller than normal arm when compared with a photo when the Wansford line was still a through route. Also with the change of route priorities, the home signal for the Wansford line has moved down the post to occupy the position of the removed distant underneath.
  8. Yes, 1S67 is the summer Saturdays 09:20 St Pancras to Glasgow Central, an extension of the usual weekday 09:20 St Pancras to Leicester semi-fast.
  9. 1A16 is again the Saturday Yorkshire Pullman with only 3 cars in each of the Bradford & Harrogate portions. 4E35 is the 13:58 Bathgate to Dagenham Docks SX or Ripple Lane SO 1A14 is the 08:30 Halifax/08:50 Bradford/09:20 Leeds to KX
  10. Further to Bill's comment, in fact Bachmann's later Mk1 coaches are not modular - the Pullmans, TPO & sleepers are all one-piece although the roof remains separate.
  11. 1A22 is the 11:00 Newcastle-KX 1N18 is the 15:00 KX-Newcastle 1L13 is the 11:30 KX-Harrogate (Saturday formation) 1A16 is the Saturday formation of the Yorkshire Pullman. Front half is the 09:55 Bradford portion & 09:50 Harrogate portion at the rear.
  12. 1D07 is the 10:50SuO St Pancas-Nottingham 1M51 is the 08:01 Manchester Piccadilly-St Pancras J2940 is almost certainly 3C48 the 10:10 Nottingham Parcels Concentration Depot-St Pancras 1M14 is the 09:00 Sheffield-St Pancras 8D60 is probably a Wellingborough to Nottingham area coal empties. Thank you for posting
  13. Although 1A33 is the 15:00 Newc-KX, the formation doesn't match the carriage working, so it is therefore 1A33 the 11:30SuO Newcastle-KX which does match. Note the BG 5th coach.
  14. 1F20 is The Day Continental 10:20 Liverpool St-Parkeston. The formation includes 6th & 7th - 2 Mk1 Pullman cars now running as FO's. 1N15 is the 12:39 Norwich-Liverpool St
  15. C714 is The Highwayman 15:00SO Finsbury Park-Newcastle (the SX train departed 09:28). The formation is boosted by an extra pair of SK at the front. C716 - An F headcode indicated an ECML special working, so presumably these are the empty carriages for an up working that night. 1E01 is the 08:00 Edinbugh-KX.
  16. The original product code would have been the same without the "a". There was an "a" & "b" release for the Mk2a TSO and an "a" for the Mk2a FK. There are more TSO releases due and a BFK.
  17. This was corrected on the 2nd wave of releases http://www.ehattons.com/52637/Bachmann_Branchline_39_380A_BR_Mk2A_BSO_Brake_Second_Open_Blue_Grey/StockDetail.aspx
  18. 1M21 is the 12:10 Sheffield-St Pancras. The third coach is an FK and indicates it is the SX train, as it wasn't marshalled SO. The first coach is a TSO with 2+2 seating, but should be an SO with 2+1 seating as half was used for dining to augment the RU restaurant car. J2395 is I believe 8C60 the 12:40SO (or thereabouts) Wellingborough-Brent J2396 is I believe 8F26 the 11:50SO (or thereabouts) Limbury Road-Wellingborough empties
  19. There were 3 diagrams of steel panelled BG (ref Steve Banks article - Dec Model Rail 2005) - 198, 245 & 260, the latter two diagrams also covered wood versions just to confuse things! 245 was the pigeon van version, so in theory the van in the photo could be one.
  20. 1M18 is I think the 08:22SO Paignton-Nottingham. The steel-panelled Gresley BG is probably substituting for a non-available Mk1 BSK. 1E26 is the 14:05 St Pancras-Sheffield
  21. J4487 is the 08:30 KX-Cleethorpes (it is missing a fourth TSO at the front of the formation). C2199 does not match the formation of the up Newcastle Executive. It does match the 08:30 Newcastle-KX. C3388 is either the 08:30SX or 09:20SO Newcastle-KX.
  22. 1S42 is the 16:00 KX-Edinburgh. The formation indicates that it is the SuO service. The set will form the up Flying Scotsman on Monday morning.
  23. 1A17 is the 10:35 Aberdeen-KX - "The Aderdonian". The class 47 must be substituting for an unavailable Deltic. C1613 is the 08:50 York-KX 1L34 is the 18:04 KX-Bradford/Halifax 1S20 is the 10:05SO KX-Edinburgh 1A22 is the 10:47 Newcastle-KX Thank you for posting.
  24. I think 1S41 may be a York-Edinburgh extra. I can't find any match for the headcode or the formation. J1323 from the formation, is the 09:50 Newcastle-Liverpool Lime St.
