  1. There is something not quite right here. 1E13 11:40 Ed-KX was a Sunday train. When I google 30th June 1974 it comes up as a Sunday. 1L34 didn't run on a Sunday although the set worked 1L37 18:45SuO KX-Bradford, but the CWN has it without the BG on the front so I don't think it's this train with the wrong head code.
  2. 1L33 was the 16:05SO KX-Harrogate The Yorkshire Pullman (only 2 Pullman Cars on a Saturday) 1L34 was the 18:04 KX-Bradford with a 3 coach Halifax portion on the rear 1A32 was the 17:00 Newcastle-KX. 1A16 was the 10:15SuO Bradford-KX. (Mon to Sat that head code was used by the up Yorkshire Pullman) C3874 from the formation was the 10:55 KX-Edinburgh
  3. 1L06 was the 09:10 KX-Leeds (with a 3 coach Hull portion at the rear). 1A09 was the 08:48 York-KX. 1A28 was the 15:35SX or 15:40SO Leeds-KX 1A14 was the 09:25 Leeds-KX (with 3 coach Halifax portion at the rear). 1H17 was the 18:30 KX-Hull.
  4. It was probably the 16:50 St Pancras-Nottingham that you caught (17:48 from Wellingborough). The up train may have been the 16:07 Derby-St Pancras.
  5. Whoops, you are right. I googled the date and for some reason Sat 9th July came up on the 2nd line and I didn't really look. I'll recheck the trains.
  6. I think I have a full house today: 1P18 was the 14:30 St Pancras-Derby 1E19 was the 15:05 St Pancras-Sheffield (via Nottingham). This train would overtake the 14:30 (which was a semi-fast) at Leicester, where there was cross-platform change between the 2 trains. 1C76 was the 15:50 Derby-St Pancras C3439 was I think the 17:00 Nottingham-St Pancras from the formation and sun position. 9th Aug 77 was a Saturday and the train was departing having just stopped at the station. C3440 would therefore be the 17:16SO St Pancras-Nottingham which was about to stop, or has stopped at the station.
  7. 1A14 was the 09:25SX Leeds or 08:53SO Bradford to Kings Cross. Rear 3 coaches were 08:30 Halifax portion 1S42 was the 16:00 KX-Edinburgh - The Talisman. The extra TSO at the front suggests the Saturday train. 1L34 was the 17:30 KX-Bradford. Rear 3 coaches were Halifax portion. Usually Deltic hauled. 1E17 was the 10:35 Aberdeen-KX - The Aberdonian. It would normally have Deltic haulage. The formation suggests the SX train.
  8. 1E01 was the 08:00 Edinburgh-KX J2469 would have been the 11:00 KX-Newcastle 1L13 was the 11:30 KX-Harrogate. The formation indicates it's the Saturday train (2 extra TSO's at the front). Isn't C3278 a down train? If not, it is running in reverse order.
  9. 1A09 was the 08:50 York-KX 5N68 was presumably ecs for an extra northbound train to the Newcastle Division, as I can't find any reference to it. Regular services didn't usually have such high reporting numbers. 1B23 would in theory have been an ER train terminating in the KX Division (A Skegness train would have had a headcode with a "D"). I can't find any reference to 1B23 though.
  10. C2871 The Class 45 at Trent Lock was almost certainly on the 14:10 Sheffield-St Pancras (with the unusual arrangement of a TSO between the 2 FO's).
  11. The body-side profile of the Pullmans is supposed to be slightly flatter than the standard Mk2 profile.
  12. In the case of 1L20, the 1972 ECML CWN has an amendment that shows the train should have been formed of AB Mk2a stock, but had reverted to VB Mk1 stock. I suspect that problems with the new Mk2d stock that had been introduced over the previous year had a knock-on effect on vehicle availability and much of the ECML 100mph Mk1 stock had already been transferred to the GE and NE-SW routes.
  13. J2764 from the formation was the 15:30 Leeds-KX. 1L20 was the 14:20 KX-Leeds. 1A25 was the the 14:14 Cleethorpes-KX on weekdays or 13:00 Grimsby-KX on Sundays. 1N18 was the 15:00 KX-Newcastle. This train was usually class 47 hauled, so possibly the Deltic may indicate the Saturday train.
  14. Tony, I think 60002 is on the 11:00 KX-Glasgow. The 11 coach set matches very closely the Winter 1959 formation (don't have access to a summer 1959). The RK is possibly a substitution for a non-available RF. The leading BSK & CK would be for Aberdeen. 60012 could possibly be the 10:00 SuO KX-Edinburgh. The front 5 vehicle types (BSK, CK, SO RF, FK) match in the summer 1958 ECML CWN, although none are shown as Mk1, so maybe a year or two later than that.
  15. I think the 5th coach may be a Mk1 Griddle Car, either 1100 or 1101. That would explain the white windows at either end. These worked between Newcastle & Bristol at the time.
  16. The painting of gangway doors buff or cream was approved by the Chief Operating Officer on 31/10/1962 according to the Carriage Standards Committee minutes in the Parkin Supplement. So in theory, later than that date.
  17. The B1 could possibly be on a Cambridge Buffet Express. The leading coach is a 5-compartment BTK, then a CK, and then a Tourist Buffet car.
  18. These appear to be 3 position indicators. I have seen others with only "line clear" and "train approaching" indications. Probably very useful for someone crossing the lines with a heavily loaded barrow.
  19. Tony, the 1st picture has a GN Semi-Open Brake Third leading, then possibly a GN Semi-Open Third, and an LNER TK following that. The gadgets are barrow crossing train indicators for the up fast, down fast & down slow no 1 lines. The carriage is a Tourist Buffet Car and the 1st 2 coaches of the train look to be a LNER BCK & TK.
  20. Max width of a BG over body was 8ft 6in. Passenger stock was usually 8ft 11.25in. Hornby Magazine made that mistake with their Stove R which is too wide.
  21. The BFK is also MkII. The other would almost certainly be an SO with 2+1 seating for dining, as it is adjacent to the kitchen end of the RBK. My guess would be that it is a Holyhead to Euston working.
  22. Tony, I believe that twin is an ex-GN diagram 218DD CK-BSO with pantry. Built in 1919, there were only 2 pairs. If so, this one looks to be in pretty good condition considering it is probably 40 years old!
  23. I reckon it is the approach to Gainsborough Lea Road. There was a 15mph restriction through the station and a siding south of the station coming in at an angle, as seen in the photo.
  24. Slight correction to the caption of 1A16. From the formation seen, it is the 12th June to 16th Sept summer months 10:00 KX-Edinburgh - The Flying Scotsman - that didn't have an Aberdeen portion at the front, the whole train being for Edinburgh. The Aberdeen coaches were carried on the summer relief train at 10:10.
