As well as being exhibition manager for Leigh MRS (exhibition Sept 14/15th) I also organise, with my friend Chris, a charity model railway exhibition held in Saddleworth, Oldham, Greater Manchester. The exhibition is held at Saddleworth Museum & Art Gallery, High Street, Uppermill, Oldham, OL3 6HS. The exhibition is located upstairs in the gallery which is accessible by stairs and by lift. Dates: Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th & Bank Holiday Monday 6th May. Opening times: Saturday 4th 10am to 4pm Sunday 5th 10.30am to 4pm Monday 6th 11am to 4pm Due to popular demand, the charity for 2024 will once again be Guide Dogs for the Blind. Last year we raised over £1500 despite the March snow, which is why we have moved the exhibition to May Bank Holiday. Guide Dogs will be present over the weekend and they will be bringing with them some guide dogs which are under training, ambassadors, retired or active. Entry is £5 and children 16 and under are FREE with every paying adult. Please note it is cash only on the door & for refreshments which are kindly being provided by the Friends of the Museum group. The traders will be able to take cash & card. There will be a raffle with a chance to win a Hornby train set, kindly donated by Sawyer Models of Leigh. Tickets will be £1 each, cash only and will be available on the door. There will also be a Best Layout in Show, voted for by the visitors. The winning layout will receive a trophy to keep. The layout is set from 1960s to present day and is a mixture of DCC and DCC Sound & features a cement works, TMD & sidings. There is plenty to see and David & Sue are happy to answer questions. Leigh 2023 Exhibition Layout Focus: Hind-Leigh Yard Hindley Green Model Railway Group We are pleased to welcome this layout by Stuart & Craig to the Leigh Exhibition in September 9/10th. The layout is an industrial factory & warehouse with Steam & Diesel locos shunting various wagons around collecting & dropping off goods. Locos include a J94, Class 08, Class 03 and a Suttons Locomotive Works Class 24 (along with others) with a mixture of DCC and DCC Sound. The track is all hand made & features automatic uncoupling using Kadees. There is plenty to see and Craig & Stuart are happy to answer questions. You can find Hind-Leigh Yard at Exhibit Space 22. Leigh 2023 Exhibition Layout Focus: Dallam Sidings We are pleased to welcome this stunning N gauge layout by Simon, to the Leigh Exhibition in September 9/10th. This layout is set in Warrington, Dallam Sidings, West Coast Mainline, 1990s-2000s with Diesel, Electric & DMUs travelling up & down this section of the West Coast Mainline. For those of you who remember train spotting at Warrington Bank Quay during these years, we are sure this layout will bring back many memories! Simon & his team are happy to answer questions. Leigh 2023 Exhibition Layout Focus: Moss End MPD We are pleased to welcome this layout by the members of the Wirral 0 Gauge Group to the Leigh Exhibition in September. This DCC Sound O Gauge Fine Scale layout is set in BR South West 1950s-1960s with Steam & the odd Diesel moving around the MPD, using the turntable etc. Many locos are a mixture of kit built & RTR. Just a week to go! We have had a change of layout due to Wilson Road developing an issue during checks. We are pleased to say that a OO gauge shunting puzzle layout has stepped in, which everyone is welcome to have a drive of. We have also added an extra trader, North Western Models, who sell tools, kits, glues, 3D printed items etc. Doors open Saturday 10am 11th March. Please note it is cash payment only on the door. The third annual Saddleworth Model Railway Exhibition in aid of charity. This years charity is Guide Dogs for the Blind. There will also be a raffle to raise money with the prize kindly donated by Sawyer Models of Leigh. The exhibition is located in the Saddleworth Museum upstairs in the gallery. There is a lift for those unable to use the stairs. There will be light refreshments available over the weekend. Children under 16 FREE when accompanied by a paying adult. Train: Greenfield is the nearest train station about half a mile away. Bus: Uppermill is on bus routes from Manchester, Ashton, Oldham and Huddersfield. Bus stops are less than 200 yards from the museum on both sides of the High Street. Car: the museum is located at Number 23 the High Street, Uppermill, post code OL3 6HS at the side of the A670. If you are using the M62 - from the west exit at junction 20 (Oldham) - from the east exit at junction 22 (Saddleworth). If you are using the M60 - from the south exit at junction 22 (Oldham) - from the south exit at junction 23 (Ashton-Under-Lyne) Parking There are several free car parks in Uppermill. The car park immediately outside the museum is controlled by the local council and is limited to a 3 hour stay between 8 am and 8 pm. Good morning Apollo, thank you for your very kind words. It has been three years of hard work, as Covid brought a halt to our 2020/21 exhibitions. 2023 is well underway as is 2024. Currently for 2023, I have 20 layouts confirmed ranging from 4ft to 34ft in length, with more to be added over the next few months. We were very grateful to everyone who was in the sports hall at 11am taking part in our minutes silence for Her Majesty. I look forward to seeing you next year. Fantastic first day! Thank you to everyone who visited. Day two begins at 10am with a minutes silence at 11am for Her Majesty. Below are just a few of the fantastic exhibits we have. There is also a 16mm Live Steam layout 20ft x 26ft!

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty, rest in peace. We have decided as a club to carry on with the exhibition this weekend. We will be having a minutes silence at 11am on Sunday as a mark of respect to Her Majesty. May she rest in peace.

Layout focus: Leigh Bridge Stabling Point - Craig Holt, 1970/80s, North West, DCC Sound, OO Gauge, Layout size 12ft x 4ft Leigh Bridge is a "what if" layout, what if Leigh Railway Station had not closed in 1969 and had continued into BR Blue. Plenty of diesels visit the stabling point for servicing, fuel and storage. All locos have been weathered, renamed and renumbered by Craig to represent locos that could have been seen at this stabling point, if BR had carried on in Leigh. All the locos are sound fitted as well. Where's Wally? and other fictional characters are hidden on the layout for you to spot plus there is a spotting list for other items like the depot cat, the train spotter etc. They move around the layout over the weekend too! Craig is always happy to answer any questions you might have. You can find Leigh Bridge Stabling Point at exhibit space 20 at the exhibition.

Layout change: Motive Power Depot in TT has sadly had to withdraw due to illness, I am pleased to announce a replacement layout. Llansawson - Hindley Green Model Railway Group, Steam, Wales, DCC Sound, Narrow Gauge, Layout size 4ft x 2ft A fictional narrow gauge station, engine shed & yard set in Wales and home to various narrow gauge locos, coaches & wagons. Working signals, lights in the buildings & a check list of items to find on the layout including Where's Wally? You can find Llansawson in exhibit space 5.

Layout change. Preston Club's Euxton Junction will be replaced by Preston Club's Alderford. Euxton Junction will appear in 2023 at the Leigh Festival of Model Railways & Transport Modelling instead. Alderford is a fictional town somewhere in the North West of England served by a terminus station. The time is the mid / late 1980’s. The layout is DCC Sound. Layout focus: Boston & Maine - Leigh Model Railway Society, Modern Image, N Gauge American, DCC, Layout size 4ft x 2ft A busy Container Depot with a fully operational container crane! This is a have a go layout. Children & adults can drive a loco & container into the base and then unload the container onto a flat bed lorry & drive the loco and container out of the depot. All the locos are DCC fitted. Club members will be happy to answer any questions you might have. You can find Boston & Maine at exhibit space 29 at the exhibition.
