I thought about that, but I can't see how I could get a satisfactory finish on the tinplate sides as regards doors, handles and other details.  Plus I have so many locomotive projects on hand, the last thing I need to do is to start work on a rake of coaches.  I think I'll either wait for some Trix ones to turn up at a reasonable price, or I'll get some Tri-ang ones and change the couplings.  Here's the soon to be named "Meld" although I still have to

looks good what blue did you use

Sorry for the Third post but they are separate subjects!

The 3 rail Bo-Bo diesel has traction tyres on one axle (it does tend to rock as a result and become prone to derailment. Why they didn't just copy everyone else and give the insulated side of the power bogie the tyres (one per axle) and pickup from the other rail on the trailing bogie I don't know.

The Wrenn version uses the same casting for both bogies (to save casting variants or to avoid using a large lump of lead? or both?).

    Hi

    I have 2 bo-bo 3 rail locos and I haven’t

    had any derailments

  6. Hi mark

I use gaugemaster 100m and hh controllers

peco still make rail and spikes to make 3 rail but they go on the outside of track as in

3 rail track used in the southern area

but you Should be able to use it in the center or you could solder it to some track

    pins

link to the spikes and the rail

    Hi Neil,

many thanks for the extra info!

Interesting how you stripped off the old paint - I would never have thought of that! I did wonder about soaking in cellulose thinners, and of course there's NitroMors, but that may be a bit too astringent. Did you use an etch primer or just their normal one?

For transfers, I was looking at Fox Transfers and the like, but I'll scout eBay first!

    Thanks again and best regards,

    Mark

    Hi Neil,

thank you for the additional photos - all great stuff! You've shown what can be done with the locomotives, and it's given me some confidence to "have a go". The N2 that I picked up is certainly rough around the edges, and would spruce up well, I think. Of course, I wouldn't consider doing that to a rarity, or even a really nicely preserved original.

I do like the layout, very much of it's era.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Mark

the two A4 started life as A4 silver kings I stripped the old paint off using oven pride

and then primed with Halfords grey primer

then sealed with Halfords Matt lacquer
