This thread has given me so much inspiration, last year we had the Hornby santa express around the Christmas tree but with no scenery it looked a little boring. This year I've been looking to do a layout but I'm restricted on space, this idea solves both problems as I can have a micro santa wonderland shuttle. Thanks for the ideas.

In such cases they ought to state something on the lines (sorry!) of, 'I have no idea if the item works or not'.

 

Such comments would at least inform would be buyers, that the item is either a bargain or a pile of rubbish! Any one buying under those conditions, should understand the risk & accept the consequences - good or bad. 

I have spoken to the lady selling the item and this ^^^^ is exactly what has happened. In fairness the lady selling the items has been great about it and said she knows nothing about the sets she has. We have agreed to a partial refund for the loco with no motor and I have said she may be best to take the rest of the collection to a local club or model shop for some advice about what she has and condition.

Yes John that is the one. There is no mention at all in the description that they are non runners. As I said a little disappointing but more amusing when I took the body off and there was nothing there. I'm sure more will come up when this is sorted so I get the fun of looking again now.

I will be doing, I find it more amusing than annoying and I'm going to give the seller the chance to offer a refund before reporting them. It may be a genuine mistake.

I really like Athearn Locos and found 3 Santa Fe locos for sale last week

1 x sd40-2 (5072)

1 x GE-B ( 6308)

1 x sd-45 (235)

I put a bid in and won them cheaper than expected. This was a job lot of 3 and the listing did state that the locos were in varying states of used condition, not a problem for the price. Well, they arrived today and after unboxing them I realised one of the locos was a little lite so took the body off only to find that the motor had been cut out I then decided to check the others and found the second one had the motor but both couplings were broken I'm scared to check the third one In fear that the weight inside is just a lot of pebbles lol.  beware when buying off Ebay.

I am very open to an end to end layout, the plan is to build a shunting yard so a continual loop wouldn't be absolutely necessary. I had planned to have 2 boards (2 3x3 or 2 4x3) for easier storage and split this so most, if not all the buildings are on one board and the other board is predominantly track and can be stored upright. 

I do prefer OO to N, more detail better running quality and I have a liking for Athearn but the worry was that the board would look to crowded and cluttered and not in an intentional way. 

The hope is that this will only need to be stored occasionally. 

Good morning all, I've been a snooper on the forum for a while but now need a little advice. I had a layout when I was younger that was very basic (2 loops running intercity 125s) and I've been planning to start a new layout for some time. The issue I am having is deciding on board size and gauge. I dont have a great deal of room so I would be looking at a layout that could be stored when not in use and have narrowed it down to either a 4x6ft or a 3x6ft. I know that the 3x6 would be too narrow for OO/HO but not sure if 4x6 would also be too tight. I prefer HO/OO but over the years of moving and storing the intercity's they've been more or less destroyed so I would be starting almost from scratch apart from a few Athearn locos I have. 

Im looking at creating an industrial shunt yard layout and I was wondering if you had any advise as to weather I should look at N Gauge and have more detail or if I would have enough room using HO on a 4x6 base board.
