  1. My BR E/C N7 turned up today. Very nice model with good sounds IMHO. My only gripe is that only a few of the functions are actually on the correct F number but that maybe my controller? I do have one question. Does anyone know if these are pre fitted with firebox glow? I only ask because it mentions on the functions list but wonder if that's just a generic note

I would like to do some of the Anglia ones ( home territory for me) but can't get the correct horn grill for the ones we had. Would be good if an etch became available (has been covered on here before) to create a really accurate replica

Maybe that's why Bachmann has held off our ones so they can make the correct horn grill. Mmmmm probably not!

I bought the Freightliner Powerhaul one as it was the nearest configuration to be repainted into DB, which it was, and became DB Blue 90034. Following on from that, i was able to acquire classmate 90028 in DB red Sir William McAlpine and it went from there.

If it works it works! The most important thing is that sales continue to be positive for Bachmann and indeed other companies to keep investing in models like this. I know people have had issues but my 90 is the best model I currently own and things like working pans are a great step for us in British outline in my opinion. Now to just hope someone gets some Great Eastern EMUs out there.

Well, the beauty of this IS opinions @Adamski94, the ex-GA 90s, i know it sounds a bit hypocritical of me to talk about Freightliner not having varieties of liveries, the other four, Freight Freightliner, Freightliner, Powerhaul and G&W are freight TOC liveries, the white GA-one just looks like a ghost pendelino-like livery - and interesting as one would have thought Freightliner whose ten 90s, 90016 and 90041-049 are all active pool members, expanding their fleet is good, but surely, decide which ones will be regulars, get them liveried up, like 90014 (which they have done) . I say hypocritical because I love the varieties of DB Cargo, ie DB Cargo red, DB Cargo Gliders, DB Malcolm, DB Blue, DB ex EWS, DB EWS, DB minus Schenker, DB Schenker. Variety is the spice of life !!!

It certainly does look odd to see a white 90 paired with a yellow and green one! For me I have grown up with and subsequently worked with the East Anglian 90s so they always have a special place for me, as well as the Freightliner ones. In fact I bought the powerhaul 90042 as it was the first 90 I saw in that livery.

The boys at Bachmann could do the GA white 90s so that the even hotter experts in the field can de-brand them for Freightliner workings in the here and now LOL

Sounds good to me! Personally I can't stand the new Freightliner orange so hopefully they stay white a little longer.

  5. The livery discussion is quite interesting although completely off skew from the majority I would like to see any future announcement include an East Anglian passenger livery. GA white would suit what I have atm best but NX or ONE would sit very well with me!

  6. Hi everyone,

I'm after some help. I am trying to add the pipework detailing to my Heljan class 15 however there are no instructions as to where each part goes. I have tried looking at photos of the real thing and try to work it out from there but thus far haven't had much success. Wonder if someone has a photo of their loco or any idea what goes where. I have managed to fit the discs and steps as they were obvious and relatively easy but the pipework confuses me a bit.

    Thanks in advance.

Was that factory sound, or dealer fitted sound? I just wasn't aware of a factory sound

It was legomanbiffo sound from rails. Not too sure what the hattons sound was. I think you are right in there being no factory sound.

  8. I bought the sound fitted 90 on Poweehaul from hattons. When it arrived the pan was damaged but everything else was pergect. I returned it to hattons, who were very helpful, refunded me in full as they had none left in stock. I bought a replacement from rails of sheffield and it has worked perfectly since

  9. I don't know about other TOCs but the one I work for Sundays are not part of the working week but nor are they really voluntary. You can make yourself unavailable for them but if they can't be covered then you have to work. Thus I don't really know of many occasions certainly in my experience where Sunday trains have been cancelled due to lack of staff. However thats just a very small part of the national picture.

  10. Unfortunately too true. There are too many 'experts' interfering. It seems that if you do the job day in day out you know nothing but if you are a 'consultant' or 'advisor' then you know best. Even within the railway it seems, in my experience, that a person who has never been to a certain station or depot can tell you the best way to run that station or depot. Funnily enough their great plans seldom work.

What we will probably get though is a bunch of private consultants in from the Governments outsourcing specialists who won't do any better than the current management but will allow politicians to claim they have 'taken radical action'

I hope you are wrong. The last thing the railway needs is 'experts' with no rail experience to tell it how it should be run.

Perhaps the government could introduce legislation to provide a minimum service when there is no industrial action...

I agree, TOCs don't really seem to have any accountability at all for their own actions. Everyone is quick to accuse staff of being lazy and greedy when they strike to protect their jobs and livelyhood but no one seems to care about all the hard work staff have to do when disruption occurs or all the unsociable hours they do. Not to mention the abuse they recieve when things go wrong often because of the inconsiderate actions of the TOC they work for.

  13. The problem I see as has been mentioned is the lack of railwaymen/women in managerial positions. The directors are mostly ex retail from places like Marks and Spencers who, whilst probably very competent at running retail industries, do not understand the fundamental difference in the way the rail industry works. The other issue is simply running a business, hence the above scenario, instead of a service. As was mentioned it is more economical to cancel a train than to provide spare stock and crew for when disruption occurs. It all adds up to a system that lacks any empathy for its customers which leads to more friction then with front line staff who then feel very disenchanted with the industry and then feel less and less loyalty and pride towards it.

  14. The class 90 has pushed boundaries in certain areas. The pan being controlled on DCC naturally being a first for RTR OO gauge in the UK. I do agree too with the idea of pushing the boundaries in the 'bland' era of operations. For me it is what I know best and fully welcome all developments in the modelling of that era.
