  1. IIRC Everton have spent the longest time in total years in the top flight of English football; but they have been relegated and bounced back. Arsenal have never been relegated since they have been in the top flight.

  2. AS a matter of interest what are the rules regarding the care of listed structures? Are they allowed to slowly deteriorate to the point where they either collapse or have to be rebuilt completely, even if they serve no useful purpose? I know of several listed buildings that should have been demolished but were listed in order to "save" them for posterity. An example is the former Lancaster Corporation bus garage.

My house and contents insurance renewal details came today.  It has gone up from £244 to £293 which I suppose remains reasonable this year.

I think that is very reasonable David, I wish mine was as low.

  4. Insurance for house and contents is due for renewal next month, Last year it was £354.92 and this year they want £833.53, nothing has changed in the cover provided and we made no claims. I think a new insurer may be in order.

  5. During the lockdown we couldn't use supermarket home delivery so we opted for click and collect; alternating weekly between Morrisons and Tesco. The actual collecting experience was much the same but Tesco were always more likely to either substitute something, usually offering an alternative we didn't want, or leave off altogether.

A funny thing pre-pandemic when we lived in our old house an ASDA van pulled up outside and the driver carried a heavy looking tub of groceries to our front door. "ASDA delivery", he said as he tried to push me back into the hallway. I stood firm and told him we hadn't ordered anything. He showed me the delivery note: it had the correct house number but the address was on xxxxx Close, we lived on xxxxx Avenue. So he had to cart it back to his van grumbling as though it was my fault and by now it had started raining. Get your laughs where you can and stay safe all.

The manager of Real Salt Lake - Major League Soccer (USA) - made this remarkably astute and profound comment yesterday.

"I just think goals change games," head coach Pablo Mastroeni said.

You can see why he became head coach.

  7. Regarding steam locomotives running up and down gradients: please correct me if I am wrong but won't a loco running uphilll chimney first have its boiler at the same angle to the gradient when it is running downhill tender first? And vice versa.

Turning tender engines on short turntables can be done by splitting the engine and tender; turning each part separately, then re-joining them. I have seen it done several times on the Ratty with visiting locos from the RHDR that are longer than Ratty engines. A lot depends on the timetable for the return trip of course.

  8. We were on holiday in Tenerife when a company rep said how she disliked men referring to their spouse as "the wife". So I said I would never dream of calling our lass "the wife". I kept a straight face.

You may have to be northern to understand this.

  9. Recently saw a Youtube video about a sheriff in Florida who caused some controversy by saying that if someone broke into your home or shop it would save a lot of money if you shot them dead.

  10. What exactly is "reconstituted" meat? I imagine it includes those bits that most people would not cut from a joint of meat, though they still have the meaty flavour. A similar mechanical process is used for stripping the last possible flake of flesh from fish to go into processed fish fingers and fishcakes. As for fish and meat pastes they are not going to be made from prime cuts of meat, but they have something like the flavour the consumer is expecting.

  11. Pup cam mentioned a meal with a side of Leak ash earlier. I would love to go on one of the fancy cooking shows and deliberately burn every element of the dish and present it as the Ultimate Ash just to show where this burning nonsense could end up. I wouldn't mind eating some fancy food they present but draw the line at deliberately burnt elements no matter how fancy and clever they try to present it. Must admit it may reduce the calorie intake though.

Alas, it appears even the sensible German's have embraced the obsession for daubing garish paint schemes on cruise ships.

    You tell them.

You tell them what you have told them.

That is how they do it on tv news programmes. That is how I was taught to do it on a training course.

WCRC currently operating 2 rakes of MK2s fitted with CDL with no exemptions needed or provided.

Other WCRC rakes of MK2s should follow but note that WCRC had stripped some of its MK2s of its BR era CDL so has now had to refit.

What would be the reason for stripping CDL  from those Mk2s? It sounds like a retrograde step especially if WCRC now has to fork out £30,000 to refit it.
