The flange squeal is on from the factory

Ah thanks sulzer, that might explain when F11 pressed the flange squeal stays on no matter what & when I've been driving slow enough around a bend/points I can hear additional rail crank/squeal in the background. Will try driving (slowly) with F11 off and see if flange sequel works on corners etc.

  2. Hi,

I've just had 37001 (digital sound) back from an 'Accurascale Works visit', but for the life of me I can't remember if when it left it had the 'brake grind' as the loco comes to a stand. (this isn't the sound that is played when the brake function is applied). I did look on YT and it does appear to have this sound??

Also, I presume to get the flange/rail squeal to work around corners with the Hall sensor F11needs to be pressed? Because at the moment with F11 pressed flange/rail squeal sound is always on no matter if on a straight or curve and without F11 pressed there's no sound at all.

I've tried decoder reset for both issues but this didn't change anything, I've contacted support, but while I wait a reply is there any CVs I could possibly change?

    Thanks

As mentioned above, the wheels are very easy to remove without disturbing any of the rigging. However, if you have a problem with all six of your coaches that suggests a more fundamental problem. Can you take some similar close up photos of a few of the bogies?

Thanks for your reply, popped the wheels out today, very easy as you say, they look like the correct size, photos beyond my IT skills unfortunately.
There’s an interesting posts (up thread)about teasing the wheels out a bit, so might try that next time in the loft.

The wheelsets are really easy to take out and you shouldn't damage the brakes by doing so.

I've removed all of my brakes and most are glued in really well but some have just fallen out when the glue missed. Again easy to fix. The only bit I've knocked off myself is the cross link thingy (not sure what to call it but it sits at 90 degrees to the springs) and be careful around the bogie steps.

If you share some photos I'm sure somewhere here can also help.

Thanks, I popped the wheels out no problem today, unfortunately posting a photo is beyond my IT skills, it looks like they are the correct size.

I've just taken delivery of my third Mk2b, a BFK, the other two being TSO's, and like most here I think they're excellent. However, when going through my usual wheel cleaning ritual I noticed something I've not seen mentioned in that the BFK has different bogies at each end. They're cosmetically the same but the one at the brake end is much wider than the other, with corresponding wheel sets with longer axles:

    Brake end bogie:

    Saloon end bogie:

    Wheel sets:

    BFKWheels.jpg.31d8f58424a5d56b73b1d01d2c0cd3c4.jpg

Anybody know why? Are they all like this or have I been sent something that's a bit odd?

I received my 6 coaches and they all run freely on straights but come to a stand on curves with a slight binding noise, they also short out going though points, even my Peco express points, plus the lights will always be on when I turn the layout on even after being turned off previously.

I’ve contacted support any waiting a response, I haven’t taken the wheels out as didn’t know how easy this was with all the brake rigging around them and didn’t want to damage them.

As it looks like they just lift out looking at your photos, I’m wondering if I might have the same problem?

    Thanks for sharing…

Unless I'm mistaken, the Class 120 at Blaenau Ffestiniog has driver 'Mad' Raymond Roberts stood next to it.

As long as you had a margin, Raymond wouldn't let you down.

You could tip him out in front of the Londons if he was on the Amlwch Tanks to Elesmere Port & he wouldn't delay the passenger.

He also knew how to driver a class 40 properly 😏.

Whilst the Wrexham vans are loaded, a 25 rolls in with empties for Penmaenmawr. Booked to arrive at their destination at 0:35! Presumably the ballast yard was staffed 24 hours. Certainly a godforsaken place to pitch up at Driver Only in the small hours.

    Hi 61656,

Great layout, when I worked Penmaenmawr SB between 1985 to 1987 Pen Yard wasn't staffed 24 hours un like the box, but we did have a light loco move from the Junction in the middle of the night. It was the Loco off the Parcels 4D11 (I think) which would return back to Junction after arriving at Bangor. Once a week in stead of working the daily Trip working, it would run light back to Pen to work the Pen to Hope Street 'Chippings' train, and yes it was a godforsaken place in the small hours, at least the Drivers got to escape, unlike the Signaller on duty...🙂

I think @Merfyn Jones knew who the signaller was when I first posted that pic many years back in an old incarnation of RMWeb

Merf would definitely, I’m going for Wyne Davies, I’m sure he relieved me a few times at Colwyn Bay Box…

Even though I’ve worked an NX Panel for the last 26 years, I saw the ‘lesser spotted’ Locking Fitter more as it was the only place Dave Kips could work/fax his timesheet off.

They still maintain our two ground frames, the last time I asked their area nearly covered the Western side of the Uk up to Cumbria…

  9. After United won the 1990 FA Cup replay against Palace, me & by mate we’re waiting at Crewe for the next train down the North Wales Coast (only a six hour wait) and the United team with Fergie plus FA Cup in the window went passed on the way to Manchester, bit of a drunken sing song echoed around the station for a few minutes afterwards….

On the way to Ramsbotham United v FC United last game of the season 2007 title celebrations we hired a whole train to take us & the team up and down the ELR  before dropping us all off at Ramsbottom station which by this time looked as if Doc Red Army had taken over the town like back when we were in the second division, happy days…

Assuming it is a full 14 coach rake did anyone notice how it is coupled together? Are the magnetics holding their own now?

When I asked about the sleeper rake on Monday and the magnetic couplings I was told they'd glue them together for reliability, not sure if this means just the magnet or also the pockets.

The rake was very impressive, I spent most of my time there on Monday following the 37s  around and listening to the sound, while I wait for my 37001 to arrive😊

Although using AS Manor as a Thunderbird on a set of B/G Coffins due to a failed 87 was a bit odd!!!!🤣

What a rare and unusual photo, you could never find a Fitter at the Junction unless you rang the Crosville Club….😏😂

143 seemed to work the Amlwchs or the Mostyn Sulphur solid around this time…

Sorry for putting this on an open forum but I wanted to see what I should be expecting before I contact accurascale. I have 92010 sound fitted. When running I am seeing no benefit from the internal power pack even without the sound on if I lift her from the track whilst running everything shuts off immediately even the lights, am I expecting too much,?

Are you using NCE Smart Booster SB3a?

As my two Deltics stay alive have never worked, but strangely they both work on my stand alone NCE Power Cab Program Track. AS reckon it’s down to the low voltage on the SB3a, I’ve just bought a DCC meter to get an accurate reading. Luckily my track is clean and doesn’t give me any issues but it would be nice to have it just in case.

haha I had this same dilemma back in 83 when choosing either a blue or L/L Lima 50 from Santa. Oh god such torture for a 13 year old 50 crank. I chose the L/L so this time I think I’ll go blue. Then when a more appropriate L/L is released I can get that.
Just need to get some overtime in at work now ☹️

Ha, had the same issue but got both...

Back in winter 82/83 the BR timesheets use to go missing on the way to Birmingham Stanier House Room 303 (from Llandudno Junction), so the Box Lad on a Tuesday used to get a day out from his duties letting 40's on freight out in front of Duffs on passengers as long as the 40s got thrashed (that was the deal😂).

After dropping off the Timesheets, I remember popping to Beatties to collect my two Lima models then getting a Priv return to Bristol Parkway as you could get a Hoover out and back with a  +10 at Parkway for a return to Brum, Spark to Crewe and Bog Unit to Chester to cover the afternoon Bangor in case it was a 40...

On one of these trips every Tuesday I remember seeing one of the most depressing sights as a young Basher, 40106 on the Crewe scrap line just South of the Station where LSL now stable their

stock, thankfully it was saved & still one of the loudest locos around, ironically based at the SVR where this afternoon's video was shoot....

I grew up with the 40s and didn’t see 50s running until the mid-late 80s. My first impression of the 50s was they sounded similar, but the turbos weren’t half as impressive. I do love the 50s, but the 40s are next level for sound effects, character and presence.

When I saw the video was shoot at the SVR thought/hoped it was 106, that said AS could compromise and do 025 as that sounded like a Hoover towards the end of its life....

Programmed on Main and then thought that might be the issue so repeated on the programming track - all CV's definately changed. I have 2 Deltics and have only changed the one so far so will change the second and see what happens and report back.  I have live frogs anyway and dont rely on stay alives so in many ways not an issue for me but being as its fitted I'd like to see it working :)

I have the same problem with my two Deltics, the change of CVs didn’t work.
What NCE system are you using on the main layout? Mine is NEC Smart Booster with a stand alone programme track.

The strange thing is that the Stay Alive will work on the programme track which is powered by a bog standard NCE starter set up but as soon as I put the two Deltics on the main layout the Stay Alive stops working, then back on the programme track and they start to work again.

I’ve emailed AS about the voltage on my NCE Smart Booster (PU) which is 13.8V DC and their answer was….

Voltage perhaps a little low, but should still be ok (ESU's tend to like towards 16V).

I’ve been away on holiday since I last contacted them and not had chance to go up in the loft as I’d like to see what voltage is going into my programme track to compare, so at the moment I’m still at a loss as to why the Stay Alive doesn’t work.

I’m unsure if there’s a quick & cheaper option (if any)  to upgrade my NCE Smart Booster voltage, as they work fine on the main layout without any issues but would like the Stay Alive to work as you’ve said.

Thanks, I tried the changes and yes the Stay Alive now works Hurrah. Unfortunately the forward direction headlights now stay on permanantly (previously these lights did not work at all). If I go into reverse I have headlights at both ends and if I turn on the tail lights they are on at the forward end as well as the headlights!

Was the chip a factory fitted AS one or one of your own that the lights didn't work?

  17. In a previous post about Ballymoss I wasn’t sure if the stay alive was working, as all lights & sound died as soon as you take the loco off the track.

I waited till I got 55002 to make a comparison and it’s the same. Both my locos  had been running around the layout for 30 minutes plus so stay alive should be fully charged.
Can anyone confirm that theirs runs on for a few seconds with lights and sound running please before I contact support?

    thanks
