  1. My EFE Hymek arrived with one of the headcodes snapped in half, and no plastic glass over the headcode. Nothing in the box, so my assumption is it left the factory like that. I must contact the vendor to see if they can help replace the ‘glass’ at least.

I fitted Ultrascale replacement wheel sets to my old Heljan 7036 today, gave the geartrain an oil, and it runs perfectly (had been in its box for several years due to the original wheels - and how often they needed cleaning). The wheels took about three months from ordering to delivery in NZ, but they are well worth the wait IMO.

Yes, was the building a part of a private landed estate, rather than belonging to the railway? Googling just surfaced the same few facts recycled by multiple bots.

From ‘Branch Lines around Hay on Wye’ (Middleton Press) - “Westmoor Flag Station … this was a private station built by a local landowner. The public stations on the route were mostly of timber construction, but no expense was spared on this one. The platform was for just one coach.”

The last sentence seems a bit redundant, perhaps ….

  3. Oxford - Wakefield Westgate. Aged ten, sometime in 1978. I was put on the train by my Grandparents in the wrong portion for Wakefield - iirc the train split at Birmingham New Street. All got sorted, but my Grandmother apparently was in a state of great panic until I turned up at Westgate … the trip was a year before trainspotting became my thing, so no idea about haulage. I did though take an immediate dislike to Birmingham New Street.

Perhaps someone will know where I might have ended up? At a guess, the train originated from Poole.

I used Pontefract Monkhill quite regularly on Saturdays in the mid-80s to get into Leeds for its record shops. Grim beyond - a bus shelter waiting room the only protection from the elements, enlivened with the odd 47 and 56 on MGR trains whilst waiting for the Pacer from Goole. Equally grim in 1970 -

  5. If I had loads of money and expertise (I have neither) the range would be post-WW2 greatest hits in HO using Accurascale’s model. No real competition with any other manufacturers for UK rolling stock, better fit for using Peco Code 75, potential to use existing product sold in other markets (e.g. containers) etc. etc.

Equally, there are probably a million reasons why my imaginary USP would end up in trouble ...

    Or ... 3 foot 6 inch NZ rtr :-)
