  1. Hi all, I'm a bit late to this topic as only just started to re-visit the forum since being in coronavirus lockdown and having a bit more time available... I'm pleased to say that Bachmann used one of my photos of 47445 at Pepper's Yard in order to get the livery right and for publicity - I received a free model in return - thanks! Below are a few photos now on my site - unfortunately, I never managed to get to the staithe by the canal so only ever saw that happening from a distance: The engine having come to grief in March 1969: Images are "clickable" to take you to larger pictures on my site with full captions. At the moment, the three lower pictures are in my "New Additions!" gallery so the above links will only work as long as they are there - they will be moved to the dedicated Industrials gallery after a short time - I will try to remember to update the links when they get moved! Williamthorpe Colliery is also mentioned above - here's a shot of 47289 at the colliery in July 1967: There was also a J94 0-6-0ST working there at the time - No. 68012 in immaculate paintwork - this loco having been moved from the Cromford & High Peak line after closure. Hope that's of some interest! Regards, Geoff
  2. Great bit of film there, simon47603 - it certainly brought back some memories for me - though sadly, I never got to Mardy or Mountain Ash... To go back to Martyn's post, the servicing point on the line towards Blaenserchan was on the almost straight stretch of track above where the line curved through almost 180° - if the link below works: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17&lat=51.72753&lon=-3.07673&layers=6&right=BingHyb it would have been about at the point on the 6" to the mile scale map on the left where the "e" on the end of 'King's Parade' is situated - it shows some sort of footpath or track from the shed area below to a crossing of the railway up towards 'Queen's Parade'. In the picture with the Rover 2000 in the foreground, the small building on the extreme right of the picture, with the red roof below the trees would about mark the position of the servicing point - quite why it was situated there I don't know! Returning to the film above, here's a shot of "Nora" at Blaenavon and a useful prototype for an old wagon you might not be sure of what to do with! "Nora" seemed to be somewhat "incontinent", dropping red hot coals from the ashpan wherever she went - this is noticeable in the film as well! And one from Graig Merthyr: This line was another that ran a "Paddy" train using converted vans until quite late in its existence. Regards, Geoff
  3. I too have only just come across this topic, having not had time for a while to visit the forum - I seem to have a little more time available at the moment though... This looks like a great model and brought back some memories of when I visited the area in 1969 and 1970. Great photos of the prototype as well, it was a very interesting and fascinating place. Below are a few photos that might add a little to what has gone before. The images are "clickable" and will take you to the photo on my site with full captions. Shot on the line at the point it crossed over the "Big Arch", looking north. Loco shed at "Big Arch" Talywain. Ex-GWR 0-6-0PT No. 7754 with a train of empty wagons for Blaenserchan Colliery. Ex-GWR 0-6-0PT No. 7754 with a train of empty wagons for Blaenserchan Colliery. 7754 returning from Blaenserchan with a loaded train at the summit of the line. 7754 returning from Blaenserchan with a loaded train at the summit of the line. 7754 taking water at the servicing point halfway up the hill. Some of the vans converted for passenger use. I had borrowed my father's car to get to Talywain on this occasion! The "Big Arch" itself and a foreground building that doesn't seem to appear on the model. I hope that's of some interest. Regards, Geoff
  4. Thanks Jim, appreciated! I didn't realise the train I saw had not been emptied as there was nowhere I could get high enough to see into the wagons but wouldn't surprise me that the load was frozen - I was none too warm getting the shots! Sounds like you may be straight through Haddenham tonight (tomorrow morning!) if you've got to unload tonight - not that it's overwarm this evening... Good Luck - Cheers, Geoff
  5. Thanks for the further info Jim, as a resident of Haddenham I did wonder what the prolonged stop there was in aid of last night (this morning!) but I didn't feel up to turning out at that hour of the day and even if I had I'd probably have missed you as you left 68 minutes early, according to RTT! I gather a similar stop is being made tonight, but to be honest, I doubt if I'll be out...! Cheers, Geoff
  6. Thanks to Jim and others for details of what's going on - trying to keep up with it all is quite difficult, but I did manage to get out to Bicester today in light of some of the info above. I was able to get shots of 70809 and 70804 with the ballast train that was parked under the Chiltern main line bridge over the "Varsity" line (incidentally, does anyone know what the headcode for this train was please?), this being the working from Hinksey at 22:58 on 19th January, returning to Bescot at 03:00 (time at Claydon) on 21st January. As this train presumably occupied this section of track all day, there was no MoD working from Didcot to Bicester today, 20th January. Photos here - 70809 on the Bletchley end of the train: 70804 on the Oxford end of the train: "Clickable" images to take you to larger pictures on my site (hopefully, my ISP seems to be playing up tonight...!). Cheers, Geoff
  7. Here's a few more shots to add to the above - I have quite a few more not yet added to my site. Photos are "clickable" to take you to larger images on my site with full captions: Hope that's of some help! Cheers, Geoff
  8. Hi, Only just seen this topic so have added a shot at Llanbrynmair to my site - at present it is in the "New Additions!" gallery for a short while before being moved to its dedicated gallery, at which point I will modify the "clickable" photo below - I hope it may be of some use! Click on the picture to take you to the larger image on my site. Cheers, Geoff
  9. No problem Jim, thanks for posting the link and thanks for all the info with regard to the Colas workings over the Chiltern line - it's made for a very interesting time! I was out on Thursday evening at Princes Risborough, along with several of the other local stalwarts, and I did manage to get some shots of the first and second up workings. The photos did work out reasonably well considering the speed the trains were going and I'm not too disappointed with them: Images are "clickable" to take you to larger versions on my site - there are a few more from the Friday morning before the shot of Jim & train at Haddenham in the afternoon. Cheers, Geoff
  10. Hello, sadly of course, like everyone else's Fotopic site, mine is no more. I have started a SmugMug site to replace it, but have a long way to go before I can get back to where I was, and shots around the Aylesbury area have still to be added - not that I have many. I do have shots of the 08 at Aylesbury and various other pictures, and have started to add a few to my site, though they may be a little late for the OP's model. 56 on the empty "binliner" from Calvert to Northolt, just north of Aylesbury 47521 at Princes Risborough with a train from Aylesbury vice DMU I'll try and get some more shots scanned as soon as I can, but as ever, I'm run off my feet! Cheers, Geoff
