    I shan't bother, thanks.

I strongly suspect that a little lubrication, and some more running-in, will mitigate the sound - but I am more than happy with the model as it is.

I mentioned the whine only because a couple of other posts mentioned it - but it is not a significant problem for me.

    Congratulations on an excellent model!

    John Isherwood.

My first Manor started to grumble more and more into its running in period and upon a little peep into the gear chamber, not one bit of lube was to be found. Of course, the damage was done and grease made no difference. I'll not be asking for a warranty repair because I then seemed to 'go on the rampage'! Trapping wires, shorting two sound decoders, and equally unforgiving, soldering the broken wires wrongly. (What a plonker). Various stuff now ordered from Accurascale and a recovery plan put into place. My grandson gave me very appropriate feedback on my performance! Fortunately, my two other Manors arrived later than the first, so they have benefited from an input of model grease before they turned a wheel and, of course, run beautifully quietly. They are, as you so rightly put, gorgeous models.

    Its exactly that…

within hours the thread will change to…

    its arrived, then..

    unboxing videos..

    test runs…

if all that gets banned then buying model railways becomes no more exciting than buying wall paper.

Weve waited years, live a little.

next week when they are no longer new, we can go back to being miserable… the warm weathers gone now too.

    Please no, anything but wallpaper!

  3. Has anyone fitted the non-coupling plough to the DT? Quite likely, rather like the gravy I make, I'm a bit thick but it's got me flummoxed. I wonder if the coupling type one splits in two but I can't see how.

A bit later ... worked it out at last - the two end bits are able to be pulled out and fitted to the required plough. Sort out the gravy next!

The pway call it the ‘crossing’, (a crossover is two complete points forming a crossover between two lines 😉)

Of course, thank you. I must get Matron to up my memory tablets!

Your confusing me keep it simple!! 😂

A simple (and poor!) attempt at a joke: as I understand it, platelayers call the 'v' in a point a crossover, whereas railway modellers tend to refer to them as frogs.

I was once called in to my grandson's nursery class after he had regaled an upsetting story to his class regarding spending time with his grandpa and his model railway and dealing with live frogs and dead frogs. I didn't hear the explanation 'Miss' gave to the assembled children the following morning!

Presume there will be a delay what with the strikes.. hopefully no vids on YouTube to keep me distracted from watching us thrash the frogs later!!

So sound ones only from Dapol but can't see any spare ones on website..

Anybody know if the smoke generator can be powered by a loksound 4?

Don't mistreat your point crossovers too much, otherwise your trains will derail!

  7. Well, after paying my £250 in December 2019 and never seeing a Fell loco model to enjoy or complain about, I received my refund last week. The money was in my bank within 24 hours of the emails between Keith and me which shows their efficiency and customer care certainly in that department!

Anyone tried fitting sound to one?

Yes, Legomanbiffo's custom made one for the Heljan 45 with an EM1 speaker. Two little cutaways were required on the speaker in order for it to fit. The speaker being only half a watt does sound a lot softer than I like (old chap, hearing aid, tinnitus etc!) so I'll try it with other speakers and see (well, hear) if they're any louder. Lovely loco, great joy!

I'll also contribute to the lack of response from KR Models. I asked if they could change the delivery address as I would be out of the country when the model was due to be delivered.

After receiving the tracking information from Canada Post and Royal Mail, I then saw the model had been delivered to an address in Chelmsford. I contacted KR Models immediately, and have repeatedly done for the past 3 weeks, either by email or Facebook messenger, and have not received a response to any of my queries.

I want to point out that the alternative address I gave them was no where near Chelmsford, and kind of at a loss as to what to do. I really wanted the model, despite the detail issues, as it was a one-off, but it would seem I'll have to speak to either Keith or Michael in person at Warley...

My response from KR - my not having received the Fell yet - was that they are working very hard to get the Fells out and that Royal Mail will deliver.  This was just over a week ago. Perhaps a visit to Warley is in order .

    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have any improvements they have planned for their Hush-Hush's? I intend to look into lamps and possibly sound if I can be convinced by a sound file that sounds different enough to the A4 to convince me it's worth it (yes I know there are none to record new sound from but would be surprised if it couldn't be remixed from other loco sound files).

Something I'm considering also is the flanged wheels or at least a way to make to cab wheels touch the rails to occasionally turn....

I always assumed that the 4 flangeless wheels didn't touch the rails so that they wouldn't cause a short when swinging out traversing points and slips. At last, I have received an unbroken W1 (the new double blast pipe version) and I lowered the 4 wheels - filing the pips on the retainer- so that they touch the rails and therefore, revolve. And they don't short on points! Later today. I will be fitting Locoman's sound, so hope that all runs equally well on DCC.

A common thread that runs through the posts here is that of forum members hoping to somehow mitigate their guilt  about massive over expenditure by reports of wifely reaction at being “found out” ….even to the extent of a suggestion of counselling on the “difficulty”. This phenomenon has emerged on this forum over the years as something quite common.among members…me included it must be added, though I’ve never posted on the matter out of deference to my late wife.

So then, gents, let me just turn the perspective around. Yes,I was all too frequently taken to task and probably with some justification and yes,I was guilty of some of the forms of subterfuge that I’ve read on this thread over the last couple of weeks. But I tell you this …..I would much prefer her carping to have continued as it was……Think on it.

I have always thought that the 'wives stories' were made up in order to have a non-woke chuckle, that's why I introduced the idea of 'Matron' in a nursing home for those of us already there some pages ago. Also 'gone along' is my greatly missed partner who once informed me of her disinterest in my "sodding trains". Hey-ho!

Funnily enough in a previous life I worked for the Irish equivalent of 'Relate' (as did Patrick, actually!)

Perhaps we should take our customer/after sales service to a whole new sphere and offer "Relationship Counselling For Model Railway Enthusiasts" on how to deal with shiny Accurascale purchases constantly turning up?

"His collection is getting out of control, loco after loco. And the droning. Not from him, but from the models. Can't hear myself think and at the end of my tether!"

"He said something about a purple throbbing thing and I ran out of the house!"

"Now he wants to buy a badger. I asked 'What's wrong with a dog??' I just dont understand!"

    Cheers!

    Fran

Wives? No problem. Wait until you have 'Matron' to deal with!

Green contingent just arrived D9006/7/10/14/20 ,following yesterday’s arrival of the blue ones 55001/3 & D9012 and D9000/55022 on Saturday. Just Alycidon from Rails to come now. Although I have plenty of maroon mark1’s for the green ones to play with and blue/grey mk2d’s for the blue ones, I’m very tempted to get a set of accurascale mk2B’s as well.

    Quite simple - get 'em!

I always thought it more stereo vroooooooooooooom in noise, they will be great though im sure.

I'm already enjoying quite a bit of vroooooooom ... two Lima Deltics (plenty of room inside) that I have are stuffed with two EM2 speakers in one and an EM3 in the other, both with Bif's sound file. As brill as these are, I expect next week's arrivals will be better.

I think later production versions may have padding on the outside of the deflectors to more accurately locate the front of the model in the clamshell.  I recall seeing a photo of that, possibly from Hornby or a dealer, when the first R3840/1 damaged models first appeared and were discussed here many pages back. I bought two R3840s and one was broken and I repaired it reasonably well, the other had intact deflectors but a couple of other issues. Also bought a R3631 and it was fine.

    Good lick.

I've given up now on R3840 and have ordered R30126 due in the summer when, hopefully, the clamshell business will be sorted.

    Cheers, Pete.

Was that back to Hornby. Can't believe they would still be sending them out broken or without better packaging

It was from Leigh Collett and it's not to do with him, his packing was exemplary - it's the clamshell that pushes the smoke deflector inwards with nothing behind it. Perhaps my bucket list should include acquiring one in one piece!

  17. I quite like the idea of steam exhaust rather than the smoke that Seuthe produces and the Flying Scotsman demonstration looked good on the video. Sadly, still only two and a half chuffs (and puffs) per driving wheel rev though. Perhaps they'll get it better in time.

Rather than fine abrasive paper, I'd be tempted to try T-Cut or similar on a cotton bud perhaps?   Test on an area maybe underneath the loco or tender first, but potentially less aggressive, though maybe more effort...

After glueing my W1 smoke deflector (same break as most others) I gave the fix a little wipe with 806 unbonder on a soft cloth. It did improve things a bit but I still know it's there! Having the playpen layout being principally 6 roundy roundy tracks with me in the middle, the best solution is to always have the W1 on one of the clockwise circuits, thereby only seeing the good side of this remarkable loco!
