Good luck with your project. I have some images on my old laptop of the station area which my late father took (early 60s and around closure ) which may be of use. Some of them are featured in Alan Hammond’s books on the S&D. Bear with me as I will take a while to find them and upload here.

Johnson 0-4-4 Tank would have been lovely. Would look great at Midsomer Norton nowadays.

Amazing footage. Always good to see unseen material. Shame nothing on Wincanton but that’s being picky. So glad people took the time to document what was then an everyday occurrence. Cine film wasn’t cheap either . Have a few photos of Wincanton area my father took, some of which appeared in Alan Hammond’s books, which I will scan and post on this site when I have time.

Hi all. New to this forum ,enjoyable experience reading all new articles s&d. Running in boards and signal box name boards were green with white lettering until closure at Wincanton. One of my father’s friends had the running in board from down platform before demolition began. 

Thank you Crompton 33. More likely to be oo gauge, but have to have a good think and see what I can do. As I’m not getting any younger n may be a little small !

Used to travel regularly past Dinton sidings ontrainspotting trips to Eastleigh/Southampton/Woking etc early 1980’s and occasionally noticed vans in sidings at Dinton station but never saw any MOD locos. Didn’t realise how extensive the system was until something appeared on YouTube recently. Will have to get the DVD you suggested. Just saw brief trailer and looks good. Many thanks for your reply.

Does anyone have any info on the narrow gauge system at Chilmark and Dinton which closed in 1994. 

Just joined up after 30 years away from hobby looking for inspiration. Layout in planning stage at present but will be late 1970’s Somerset/Dorset area and 6’x1’ as that’s all the space available + small detachable fiddle yard. Will post plan soon!
