That’s a bit dramatic, if he insulates the area where the decoder is going as other people have suggested then he’s not gonna have any problems, the decoder should last longer if it doesn’t over heat by being tightly wrapped in heat shrink.

    Richard

Done exactly that. The right thing to do.  All running and sounding good..

If the decoder comes with a protective covering I leave as as is,  if it doesn't then I tend not to cover it but just insulate the loco / chassis where the decoder sits

Thank you.  .Exactly what I've been doing for 15 years.  Good old  Kapton Tape.  Bought a pack of 3 from the States ,  [doing DCC in N kato N gauge]

This is my  first TTS , and factory fitted sound.  A current model.  Up to now all ESU/ZIMMO  Sound.

Assuming Hornby know what there doing, I'm leaving well alone.

    Cheers.

  3. Well, if it’s different in the way it runs, then it’s likely different in the mechanicals too, and the wheelsets are the logical starting point.

If you don’t have a digital measuring stick, now might be the time!

Googling “digital calliper” will give you lots o& options!

    Best

    Simon

    Mornin.

Good news. The  wagon no longer shorts through the points, only one axle was the cause. Ive been running it for the last hour through the points and no issues. Rather difficult getting it right with no measuring tools.

What a range of Digital measuring equipment out there, obviously the way forward . Something i will source in the near future.

Thank you for helping me sort it out.

    cheers

  4. Hi Simon.

Thanks for your reply. Most helpful, and i get what your saying.

However my DCC Engines and wagons all run fine on the new Unitrack points, apart from this particular wagon. So im loath to mess with the points.

Im going to do as you suggest, and adjust  the BTB on the offending wagon very slightly, and see what happens.

I will let you know how i get on.

  5. HI.

I have a mix of Dapol and Heljan wagons running on Peco track, Some run better than others, and one in Particular shorts on the Unifrog Points pretty much every time, and trips my DCC controller.

All the items are brand new, and have not been altered.

My question is.  Are the back to back wheel measurements out. And if so can i buy a gauge for this purpose. And what size should it be to suite Peco RTR track.

    Thanks

  6. Been using ESU sound, but now on my second Zimo, a very pleasant alternative.

Also a bit of a learning curve.

Just fitted Mx 644d, with ZS37 4ASL V17.07 sound file.

My directional lights on Fo now only operate Red or white on cab end 1. Nothing on cab end 2.

Ive been looking at comments etc. Reaching the conclusion this cannot be changed by CV adjustment. Unless i alter the Bachmann wiring, which im not confident to tackle.

    Is this the case. ?

    Thanks

  7. Just fitted sound In my Dapol 08.

Its The ZS 08AD sound file from Digitrains, with  LS50x15x14 Twin speaker, and 30sec Stay alive. ....Very Pleased.

My Question, can i increase the Cab Light Brightness.?

In addition is directional lighting brightness controlled by CV 60.

    Thanks

  8. It's clear that the fitted speaker is the only one of a suitable size to fit the available space in the bunker.

Whilst this performs well for it's size, the ZIMO LS10 x 15 x 9 gives a better output but at the expense of correct bunker detail. This is probably why Bachmann fit the smaller speaker.

If you are happy to make this compromise, Bachmann has made it pretty straightforward to do and it gives good results. You will need a cross head screwdriver and a soldering iron.

It does compromise the in-cab shape of the bunker but as it's black it's not too obvious.

It does not require butchery as such.  When the bunker has been removed, (two screws from below) The front of the assembly can be slid away from the main part. Remove that and the speaker.

That's all the body mods required and even this can be reversed easily to regain the original look if necessary.

However, the bunker contains a small PCB to which the rear lamp and speaker connections are made. Remove the PCB (unsolder if possible) and join the wires to restore power to the lamp.

This should allow enough space to fit the speaker having connected the appropriate wires.

A couple of crew members will disguise it all and the volume level will be significantly improved.

Reducing the depth of the speaker's enclosure can reduce the visual impact even more.

    Best regards,

    Paul

    Thank you Paul.

Very helpful indeed, once i get the speaker i shall give it go.

    cheers.

  9. I have one fitted with the Zimo sound decoder, connected to the existing speaker, already fitted in the coal bunker ! i think.

It sounds great, and runs perfectly.

Is it possible to upgrade the speaker to a Zimo LS10x15S speaker.

    Dimensions 10xq15x9

If so, how does can the speaker be accessed. Is much if any butchery required.

    Thanks

  10. They are all very similar in terms of what sounds they offer, expect 2 horn sounds, some kind of buffer clank, and flange squeal. Think more about whether the engine sounds are actually right and how drivable it is. I’ve not personally had one but I have spoken to people who aren’t happy with them. Someone said that the engine never notches up to full rev’s like it should so he was disappointed for that reason. You can’t always get Bachmann decoders reblown so you need to be sure that you are happy with the sounds on there before you buy it

    Thanks Richard.

Very helpful, will help in making a decision.  In any case will certainly try before i buy.

    Regards
