  1. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.....and thanks for all the entertainment!
  2. As a junior'ish modeller I created a 'flasher' which was tastefully hidden behind a tree....but often pointed out by the operators at exhibitions :)
  3. I managed to get swarf in my eye during basic trade training...like an idiot. After seeing the M.O. and having the offending article removed I was told to wear an eyepatch. The Medical Commander saw it and told the MO to "take the damn thing off as we may be Navy but we're not bloody pirates" :) I can recommend having your cataract removed. Absolutely amazing! Although all the colours look wrong now....white is REALLY white....!!
  4. Didn't we steal get the design for the Bren from the Czechs?
  5. I quite liked the LMG. A little bigger, but we were using Oerlikon barrels from 1944 into the 80's
  6. I was given a Sterling once in place of my usual SLR. I didn't keep it long! To hit a barn door you pretty much had to be next to it......
  7. Now the owner of a couple of these, early and late SR versions. I couldn't decide either!
  8. For 3ft English prototypes there's always the Midlands Ironstone Railways for a varied assortment of locomotive choices. Pecketts at Scaldwell, Manning Wardles at Kettering, and a mish mash of manufacturers at Waltham, Eastwell and others. No official passenger services, but some wonderful inspiration...
  9. Seeing as we don't have that many British car manufacturers left I guess they figured it was close enough......
  10. Fulliautomatix looks like he's had a haircut and a shave......
  11. What sad news :( My condolences to his family. I was fortunate enough to meet and talk to Iain many times over the years. In my youth, as a spotty teen with an interest in the light and esoteric side of railways and railway modelling, he was always helpul and informative. And he continued to shape my railway modelling inspiration, aspiration, and skills, over the many years since. Rest in Peace Sir, you will be missed by many.
  12. I've used these, which I know are overscale, but look the part. http://www.brengun.cz/e-shop/1-72-accessories-21/tools-627 Severn Models also produce a set https://severnmodels.com/epages/eshop1179816.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop1179816/Products/D.6
  13. You have to also take into account the 'non-scale' sleeper and rail heights. If you look at the real thing and the model trackwork they are miles apart in depth. I'd just go with the old axiom, "If it looks right...."
  14. How are you trying to attach the wire to the point? I'm sure there are plenty of clever, er,....people, on here who can assist with a simple alternative method. In the meantime I'm looking forwards to the next installment on the scenic side. Keep on keeping on...
  15. The colouring, while sealing the ends, is also used to identify the source and/or shipper.
  16. London Road Models unbuilt L&YR Barton Wright 4-4-0 for £66. Included Gibson driving wheels.
  17. Joined by the crew from the Prairie parked on the platform probably?
  18. So now you've reached the end of the lines with this layout I expect you'll be planning the extension
  19. Looking good, the tones really give it that worn look, the only thing that jars with myself is where does the rainwater go? No gutter or drain in the road, (and obviously no gutter means nowhere for the fag packets and crisp packets to go! )
  20. The 'crash barriers' are more likely to be a later addition. Tracked vehicles would easily pass over the gap between the end of the ramp and the wagon. The flaps would probably only be used for wheeled vehicles. I'm sure there are more illustrations around of both civil and military equipment though. Most stations with end loading docks would have had them for road or agricultural equipment. (Don't forget to put the jacks on the end of the wagons down )
