  1. Time for some actual modelling after almost a year. Started updating some Hornby TTA tanks. The bodies I've kept basically unchanged, but done a bit of work in the chassis. Detailing isn't at all accurate to the real TTAs but following Wallsrail on youtube you get something that looks a lot better than before. I just need to add NEM pockets to the shell tanker then a bit of subtle weathering abd its done. Picsart_23-03-26_13-14-21-579.jpg.0faeb451efc8ff54dbde535a74c5ebb3.jpg

The next tanker is one of Hornby's better efforts, so I've left the livery unchanged for now. I've started work on the chassis but as you can see a lot of work needed.Picsart_23-03-26_13-14-05-727.jpg.9999629f78dc61109cbf00eb9e887e6f.jpg

Next up we have just a chassis, full detailed. I've got a body but still needs painting! This one will be half of a pair of aviation fuel/BP tanks that I'm doing. Quite happy with how this one has come out in terms of paint! Picsart_23-03-26_13-13-42-522.jpg.a4fc234cea8498f65336bb992ca695bc.jpg

and here's the whole lot for now.Picsart_23-03-26_13-12-31-864.jpg.cb966c988ed1e6ecf80c3bca13ab1794.jpg

  2. Hi all, I've just seen this picture on Flickr ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/153712773@N08/42132538410 ) of a 21t planked coal wagon on the end of a rake of HEA hoppers. I've looked but can't find much information on this wagon, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the wagon. Another thing I was wondering was of the wagon was air braked or not? because it seemed unlikely so surely it would just be added unfitted on the end of a train? but I'm not sure. Anything is appreciated.

  3. Decided to make a thread for my layout since I thought it might force me to actually get on with it and build the bloody thing. Picsart_23-02-05_17-07-04-590.jpg.10864dcbbc9257137aa53dd923c616f4.jpgI've already got a basic idea of the track plan, I've laid some track down as you can see below, and I've added some wagons just so I can get a feel of what space I've got to deal with and what things I can run. The idea currently is for a freight based layout, I want to use those wooden blocks up and make some kind of loading dock type thing. Still need to buy some more points.

  4. Considering rationalising my collection, as I'm considering going into n gauge for the size benefits. I'll still continue in oo, but I think now my goal is to have a nice little shelf layout for a Bachmann 08 to shuffle around with my handful of wagons, a more realistic target I'd say. So a Beatles Eurostar, a 56 (maybe) and a Lima 67 in need of a lot of work are on the cards for being put up for sale on eBay, among a variety of other random bits, just want to clear out really.

In other news I've done a VEV van. No TOPS code as I simply can't be bothered to order the decals. Livery not very accurate but as long as it looks alright I'm happy.IMG_20220418_190928_hdr.jpg.b9bedcb27f91cc6d5e914ca732048455.jpg

  5. I need to update here more regularly! That 21t mineral has since been repainted grey, weathered and appropriate decals added. Plus various other wagons in BR livery. However now to some good old weathering! First up is this 101 that I put on here last month, representing its final months in service, worn and unloved. Hope it looks okIMG_20220314_222638_hdr.jpg.4eb8612b6ed82347f4bdffb2805fc0b4.jpgIMG_20220314_222640_hdr.jpg.f7164642f04e031d42b6988216c40f89.jpgIMG_20220314_222650_hdr.jpg.c7e8f8d5f09593ebe4bb60800ae1db05.jpgIMG_20220314_222653_hdr.jpg.03e0bc5a2a6dc22a93e8e0db1a7e70d9.jpgIMG_20220314_222659_hdr.jpg.97fcf6ab582af78662140397f6c63450.jpg

Always satisfying renovating something. Technically tie bars were to stop 4 shoe brakes from causing "spreading" from the extra force when vacuum braked. No need for them on a wagon with clasp brakes as they push the wheels from both sides.

I'll have to look into that then, maybe some more modifications on the horizon, since I've got a fair few more bodies

  7. Had an early birthday present so I thought I would bull it up on a tad, painted vacc. pipes, guard irons, crew, interior, buffers, con roads, added a lamp after photo was taken.  Makes for a very smart little loco :). Going to see if I can devise a way to make a fake crosshead for the 0-4-0s, making them look better without extensive modifications to the chassisIMG_20220205_142118_hdr.jpg.bc893fbc1f2064acdbdb117a16992912.jpgIMG_20220205_142156_hdr.jpg.4865166acf3e2591f78644f70cd5218b.jpgIMG_20220205_142126_hdr.jpg.e52aad2c27c2c548ddd1fde8beee596b.jpg

  8. A few updates: the Victorian 0-4-0 has been finished off (for the most part) and I've also done a nice red pug. I've started work on a little branch line train for a fictional pre grouping company, consisting at the moment of a ratio gwr composite, a bashed coach and a luggage van. IMG_20220130_205556.jpg.5789468698b43002970acddd814ad5b2.jpgIMG_20220206_005313.jpg.4d7f40529a3d1a97fd2c54688cc4de9f.jpg

Still waiting on the chassis so I've had a start on another shell lying about, much less dramatic this time, any mods I could make, suggestions very much welcome. I've got quite a few other 0-4-0s in various states, some just shells, some with chassis, and some that need quite a bit of repair, so I might aswell find a use for them allIMG_20220121_211528_hdr.jpg.fbd5adc2c0c02d086d9e40c46b8e0384.jpg

Didn't really do much else in the end so not much of a pugbash. But I do have a few more bodies to play with, so expect an actual pugbash from me fairly soon. Also got another 0-4-0 on the way as a birthday present but I'll be keeping that one as is besides basic details! For the time being I'll just have to keep myself happy with a ratio 4 wheel coach kit.. :)IMG_20220130_205341.jpg.b1bdcc14e2b46ea6c3a7f593b1834bf7.jpgIMG_20220130_173615.jpg.b13410829364e444c7dba0b4f736ebe5.jpg

Lose the cab front and roof and add a "weatherboard" to give it a real victorian look. Use cereal packet card to give it the typical upsweep to the rear and a hole punch for the spectacle plate. :D

That was the original plan, kind of, I was going to get rid of the cab roof then file down the sides of the cab front to make it thinner, I might still do but for now I'm leaving it as is, I've also thought about making a small 'crown' out of a few pieces of metal wire, for some standard Victorian over the top decoration

  11. Thought I would try and make a pastiche Victorian tank loco, with all the ideas in my head about a small late Victorian or early Edwardian village line full of hand me down stock. Had plenty of 101 shells lying around in various states of disrepair so I chose one to make a start. Solebar lip filed away to make the body look thinner, cab roof filed away and rounded off, plus lots of rounded corners. Debating whether to have a normal smokebox door, which would be more realistic for the period, or a square type door, to make it look a bit more Victorian. Will probably add handrails at some point, among other details, but livery is yet to be decidedIMG_20220115_210154_hdr.jpg.c29e65c23eb736236c0f92a3c0e8c23e.jpgIMG_20220115_210124_hdr.jpg.12ff55705cdf8b6c4c5bf00965597069.jpg

  12. Thought I'd tackle some spare bits I had lying round and see if I could make a pastiche Victorian tank loco. Still needs a lot of work as you can see but it's progressing well. Mods include shaving off the solebar lip to make the body thinner, and adding rounded corners in some places, next thing to do it to chop off the roofIMG_20220114_224046_hdr.jpg.990eb05382ae7a9c3bec7dd835a09c69.jpgIMG_20220114_224052_hdr.jpg.e7f6143c210fc7d74adce6ffe7913c8e.jpgIMG_20220114_230158_hdr.jpg.730aacc0563f89c9d66898d88ba9fbbb.jpg

  13. Ahh,rocket railways, the true hallmark of honesty. They said that model railways were too expensive for people on a budget and it was their mission to fix that, and they certainly deliver. What an offer! Reminds when I messaged them about the fact that they were selling a broken Lima class 67 with no box, no detail pack for 110 quid, and their answer to the problem was to send me an offer for it for 100 quid. Cant beat good old Rocket Railways can you? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Gauge-Hornby-BR-Green-Class-40-D232-Empress-of-Canada-/114967397768?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

  14. Just to let everyone know I have created a new thread called Tub's workbench (I think, it's something like that) I thought it would probably suit me more with how I prefer to share my work. In other news Christmas presents were 3 Bachmann PNAs (two I've already weathered, one of which you can see on the new thread) and 3 of the newer Hornby CDAs. I've also gone and bought a Chiltern bubble car so I'll have some passenger stock when I start work on the layout, and also an ews Queen Mary for propelling moves. I might try and bring my grid more up to date, would make a nice repaint project, probably dcr 56303, same loco different livery. Then hopefully I can bag some more CDAs, plan is atleast 9 for something that looks long on a smaller layout
