  1. Considering where we live( 200 miles off the coast of Africa) the first charge of 45 euro's for the steam outline motors ( 2) & just 10 euro's more for the diesels. (2 )..Can't really complain.

    I've moaned about Bachmann engines (having  4 of them give up the ghost) but they've come through with spares & to be honest also given some good advice from the techno guys.

  2. Bachmann sent me 2 motors for the class24 & 25.

    Working on the steam outline engines was a doddle compared with the diesels.

    So many delicate wires once you've got to the engine...which just prises out with some effort!

    Also managed to knock one of the wires off the new motor fiddling it into position.

    Anyway the good news is it's fixed and running (class 24).

    Might wait until tomorrow to tackle the 25.

    4 hours work on the 24 was enough for me!!!

    When you've done one the others will be easier!

    Prised slowly one end out & that was that. Success.

    The pliable plastic harness remains in the metal body top.

    Couple of fine wires came adrift with the rough handling, (lights at front) but not a problem

     

    This motor is far larger than any of the 3MT/5MT.

  5. Well I was on a roll. (Maybe a new page for this?)

    Getting the diesel class 24 motor out seems a different kettle of fish.

    Anyone done one? Can't find anything on youtube.

    Pics below show I've stripped every screw out but the motor seems held in.

    Prise it out? Not sure.

    No, not the worm, the part on the video where I can slightly touch it and the motor starts running.

    Positive wire connected to it.

    Hi Micklner,

    Being a bit green with these new Bachmann motors... Is that brass part, the brush? I've just come across the exact same scenario with the class 73049, (pushing it in & motor flies away, as in video) plus there was a very small deposit of black debris beneath the motor.

    PS. Any recommendations for a soldering iron kit to attack the circuit board etc on the 3MT tank?

    One's I have are well past it.

    Those on Amazon about 40 Euro's/pounds any good?

    Postage to and from Canary Isles is pretty high, might just tackle the job myself.

     

    Can you believe? rain stopped play...here in the Canaries.

    Wall to wall blue skies an hour or so ago.

    Needed the dust shifting off the railway anyway!

    Released motor from its holding & attached live wires. Motor runs like a dream!

    Results:

    wires attached to motor....perfect running.

    wires attached to circuit board....perfect running.

    wires attached to wheels....perfect running, then motor slows down!!!!

  11. Got into the innards of class 3MT 82001.

    Direct contact onto motor and it does the same as on live track...small spurt of slow movement and then stops, maybe 2 seconds at most.

    Thinking of getting a replacement motor & see what happens.

    Hate these "new" motors but it looks like just a couple of soldering points to release it and exchange.

  12. It is very old (transformer) and wondering maybe a problem using the resistance/wave switches.

    I'll test out the motors with direct connections (if I can access them!)

     

    PS. Yes, we do get winds from Africa, causing loads of dust, but trains never run in those times.

  13. Getting beyond a joke now.

    4th loco to bite the dust...All Bachmann.

    Class 24: On top speed will muster only a snails pace.

    Class 25: Exactly the same.

    Standard 5MT 73049: Dead. Just stopped and gave up the ghost.

    Standard 3MT 82001: No speed at all & then gives up entirely.

     

    All out of warranty, possibly 5/6 years old but none have been hammered.

    Hornby/Lima etc running a dream.

     

    Started to wonder whether it's because they are on my out doors railway...and too much sun?

     

    Anyone else succumbed to this with Bachmann?

    Chatted with Hattons where they were purchased, they advised sending them off for repair (possibly motor or electrical problems)
