  1. Winston Churchill was at NRM Shildon when I made a visit there last year. At least the can of processed meat that bears his name was anyway.
  2. I wasn’t going to bother with the tiresome ‘nothing in it for me’ post. But it’s actually worse than that. The only pre order I had from last year, the macaw, has been cancelled. Negative one new models for me doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
  3. I was in the away end at the Cardiff City Stadium tonight watching my beloved Albion. It might take me until the weekend to warm back up but the 3 points help in the biting cold.
  4. KR do love superlatives don’t they. I did make a comment in the aforementioned thread (which I would say was a fair comment) but quickly ran for the hills as it rather descended into quite personal jibes. I hope they do a good job and are vindicated in their choice with strong sales.
  5. Looks like they’ve used an N gauge arrows of indecision on an OO loco too, just emptying out the spares box.
  6. As much as I have no use for these, it has certainly whetted my appetite for the corridor versions whenever they appear.
  7. I’m not entirely sure how open Mrs Mallowan (A. Christie) would have been to people visiting her country abode whilst she was still resident. My grandmother knew her personally through her role as secretary to her solicitors in Torquay in the late 40s/ early 50s. I also can’t think of many other rivers/estuaries that were served by the GWR on both banks. Off the top of my head I can only think of the Cleddau being rail served both at pembroke dock and Neyland; the Tamar and the Severn at various places.
  8. Not quite yet anyway. To me this is the biggest open goal for GWR/BR WR steam. Only 20 ish years in service but 4 livery options and probably the most different looking of GWR 4-6-0s for all those that moan all Swindon engines look the same. Add to that the new build interest. I’d buy at least 2 (more likely 3 or 4 over successive runs)
  9. Those second radius curves really do spoil the illusion, and those plastic ferns are far too vivid
  10. Given that the announcement video opened with a Standard 5 (I thought for a second that was the subject of the announcement) and ended with an 8F are we to take that as a hint, I wonder?
  11. Diagram A44 auto. Converted from d117 brake thirds in 1955. There is a comet kit available
  12. Plymouth Argyle caught a regular train service to their championship fixture with Watford last week. There weren’t enough seats so some players were sat on the floor. I doubt they’ll be using rail travel for the rest of the season.
  13. I really should finish the layout before buying more locomotives, so of course a new arrival from Accurascale is being run in. Looked too good to pass up.
  14. Finger nail did not work. Easing carefully with a scalpel blade did. There was some glue holding each one in, as evidenced by the residue on both pieces and inside the cylinders but luckily only a small amount. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop myself ordering more examples from batch two. The longer you look at the model the more detail you see.
