  1. I see this question has been asked quite some time ago with no solution being found so please excuse me asking

I have spent ages trying to find a pair of Dapol Class 121's both powered and dummy, after much searching I finally found two different dealer that had stock, one had the power car and one had the dummy.

The power car is the newer one that takes a Next18 decoder and works fine, the problem is with the Dummy which apparently is from an earlier batch were they used a 6 pin Decoder and that's were I have a problem, I have a number of different make 6 Pin decoders and have tried them all, but all I can get working is the Head and Tail directional lights, the headcode LED's just show a slight glow and only one of the two LED's at each end light, on the powered car which does work one of the 2 LED's is dim like on the dummy and the other glows bright and switched with direction, its actually too bright but that's another story

So the question is, anyone with one of the 6 pin decoder class 121's with working Headcode lights, what decoder did you use and did it need any special CV setting to get them working.

Unfortunately sending it back is not an option because it appears to be the last one in the country 6 pin or Next18 versions, so would like to find a fix for this one.

Anyone know a solution to this issue.

    Thank you

  2. One of the best Matt varnishes I have ever used is the old enamel one from Xtracolor, I think its now been discontinued but if you ever find it buy as much as you can, you will not regret it.

They do an Acrylic version as well but I have never used it so don't know how it compares to the enamel version of which I still have enough to see me out.

  3. I have been using one of these for a few years now when doing work on decoders, replacing wires or adding stay alive wires

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283575730671

Only 8 watts but a super fine tip and more than enough heat for thin leaded solder 0.3 or 0.5mm

Not enough mass for large ground connection but more than enough for the pads on decoders.

Don't knock them until you have tried them, good enough for big Clive they are good enough for Me ;)

  4. This could be a difficult list to build, given that even the model makers themselves can't agree as to what the correct colour is, even within their own ranges there are often quite large differences, not naming any maker though.  I also suspect even with the real thing shades changed between batches of paint and over the years as formulations changed.

In most cases its a case of if look right it probably is. just pick something close, if its slightly different then its probably just like the real thing were two fresh out the paintshop locos will look different because either the base oxide paint were of different batches or were thinned slightly different ot he top paint colour with applied slightly different by two different painters, even the number of coats of paint affects the final depth of the colour. brush painting v sparay painting will also give a different hue to the colour.

Like I said a difficult list to build.

  5. Thanks for the helpful replies Brian & Jim

I have tried to contact them via

email, which just bounce back as mailbox Full

Their online ask a question option, no reply yet

By Phone, just rings and never answered.

I don't do Facebook so cannot contact them that way, perhaps someone would be kind enough to give them a nudge to check their mail issues.

    Thanks

  6. Hi all hope this question is not against the rules but

Anyone know if AC Models in Eastleigh are still trading

Got a couple of order issues and all emails are bouncing as mailbox full and no one is answering the phone, are they still going or have they shut down but still have their online ordering system running. Taking money but not shipping ?

    Thanks

  7. I always use their service but always select Royal Mail, unless it's big and heavy and only once had an issue and that was down the the counter clerk trying to scan the bar code instead of the QR code.

Remember with eBay postage you select who you want to send it by, so don't select eBay as the courier.

Agreed it's a right pain in the proverbial when a courier screws up, especially now during the pandemic with many now going no signature required and the courier's either leaving parcels on your doorstep in plain sight of anyone walking by to just pickup or as shown on many YouTube videos, dropping the parcel off, taking a photograph of the parcel at your door then picking it up and walking back to their van.

The other day I was waiting for a parcel from UPS, during the afternoon my neighbor knocked on my door with it having found it by the main entrance to our block of flats, just sitting there on the ground. The driver never rang or left a card, just dropped it and left and that's UPS.

    Hi all,

Thanks for the interest and queries RE the Garratt. As some of you have seen we're featuring the model prominently in our marketing currently.

We're still awaiting additional pre-orders before the project can progress however we are watching the numbers closely on this.

    Cheers,

    Dave

What numbers are you looking for and how close or not are the current orders

Might prompt a few more orders if we know you are close to the required number ?

  9. If there is no common overlap then most if not all stitching software will fail

You could using one of the common photo editing software programs create a document the final size then just drop the individual images into the require place, edges may or may not be that obvious and you could do some blending at the edges to lessen the defects.

The software I have used for building panoramas is PosteRazor and Posteriza, both do a reasonable job but like most some overlap is needed for the best results.
