  1. Yep....I've tried using curved points but can't seem to get them to work in the space available....guess there's a degree of trial and error so may need to just persevere. Keen to get it down on Anyrail first so that I have a plan to work to. I thought about the new small radius curved points, but I am trying to avoid anything less than R3.....I know most of the stock we buy says to run on R2 or greater, but the fact is, quite a lot of locomotives, coaches and wagons struggle on R2.
  2. Hello I returned to the hobby after a long absence a few years ago, initially collecting locomotives/rolling stock and running occasionally on a small end to end layout. I had our loft converted about 18 months ago and am now, after a fairly stressful year family wise, planning to build a layout up there. I intend having 4 running lines, up and down fast for passenger/express services and up and down slow for freight and local services. There may, in due course be a branch line, but that will come later when I start designing the 'scenic' section. I've been using Anyrail, but I'm still a bit of a novice and I'm struggling with the 'fiddle yard' section of the layout and wonder if anyone would be kind enough to offer some advice/suggestions. For clarity, I've attached an image of the Anyrail file. Essentially, I am trying to work out how to lengthen the storage lines by moving the point-work as far round the curves at each end as possible, whilst at the same time, avoiding any curve tighter than Radius 3. Although I can 'cut the corners' to some degree, the baseboard/layout dimensions need to remain as they are with the scenic section forming the other three sides of the room from the line with the width dimension of 305.9cm. I also realise that, at this stage, I have no means to move between the 4 lines in the fiddle yard, but will address this once I know how to build the entrance and exit. I thank you in advance in the hope, that in the future, as my knowledge and experience expands, I have the opportunity to provide help and advice to someone in a similar position to my own this evening. John
  3. I'm looking for advice on how to get two additional centre coaches for the Bachmann 416 EPB. In the 80s, I used to travel into school from Purley to London Bridge. The train would be a four car unit from Tattenham Corner, joining a two car unit from Epsom. On the return journey, the train would split into separate units at Purley. For a bit of nostalgia , would like to re-create this train so any and all advice will be gratefully received.
  4. Does anyone know where I can source American cars in oo, 1/76?
  5. Hi Does anyone know of a source of American road vehicles.....particularly muscle cars, pick ups and convertibles in oo scale or very close to 1/76?
  6. A quick update (at last). Pictures show a standard, out of the box, lima TEA followed by one of my remodelled ones. Replacement bogies - may change these in the future as been unable to get the correct ones so far but think the Y25CS2 bogies will do for now. Ladders replaced with etched items, fully repainted and a combination of transfers from Fox, Railtec and some home produced on an ALPS printer. Couplings replaced with body mouonted kinematic sliders and NEM pockets.
  7. Stensons don't have any of the suitable bogies in stock, nor will they until next year . I think I'll go with the Y25CS2 ones I already have from Kernow and consider changing them later. Thanks for all the advice.
  8. Thanks for replies so far. A quick update. Still filing/sanding/priming to get rid of the ugly seams on the original lima mouldings....having stripped the models down and glued the two halves together, none of them are a perfect fit and some are way out. Nearly there though. I have one left unstarted so I will post some pics as I progress that one to catch up with the others. I ordered a set of Cambrian Gloucester bogies but they just don't look right - wheelbase seems too short. I think I will look at Stenson models but not sure which options would be correct, so any advice would be appreciated. And finally, I hope to start work on producing the transfers this weekend.
  9. I have a few sets of Y25CS2 bogies from Kernow model centre....although not prototypical, they do look the part and I'm not a rivet counter, and after all, they will be running on my layout. I'll compare how the Gloucester bogies from Cambrian look and decide which ones to use then - either will be a huge improvement over the ones originally fitted. I'll post a few pics when i make some progress.
  10. Thanks all.... I 'he ordered the last pair of C37 bogies in stock plus wheels and bearings to match. If they work for me, I'll order another 17 pairs. Unfortunately, I've already binned the old Lima bogies. I'll post some pictures at some stage to show how I'm getting on.
  11. Hi....first time post so apologies for kicking off with a question! I have a large rake of 18 Lima TEA wagons that I'm rebuilding. I've stripped them down, reassembled the bodies and filled the joint gaps ready for sanding/priming. The existing bogies are junk so will be throwing them away, but I'm after some advice on suitable replacements. I'm not a, so called 'rivet counter ', but would like something better than originally supplied. Thanks in advance - only recently got back into the hobby, in the middle of layout planning now and looking forward to contributing here in the future.
