  1. I’m toying with the same scenario currently. I am just about to wire up my oval that could have four trains continuously running plus some shunting in the yard or depot and have bought a digitrax PM74, as I was planning on separately wiring my running lines via the PM74, but as it’s just me, I have come to realise that I need a LOT more bus wiring. Three times as much in fact and I’m not sure it is worth it?

I am, however, looking forward to 47214 in Railfreight Red Stripe as I remember seeing it about and loving the livery with Tinsley motif below the nameplate on it.

I was tempted too but I hope they fixed the depot motif as it was upside down on the engineering sample they showed off.

  3. There’s a handrail missing as well, so I doubt it would be the production version. At least I hope not…..

I actually think it looks ok. I think certain liveries will help hide some of the issues with the face.

A little concerned not heard about my RTC pack, I think McC said they were sorting them first as a small batch. Did email accurascale support yesterday but not heard back. Wonder if they have been stopped to sort the certificate issue.

Not received mine either. I was going to leave it until after the weekend before contacting them.

I have received my mk2b NSE coaches though..

This is the 48 from Warley. To my mind it’s not massively ‘off’ but there is something that prevents it being ‘definitive’. The Bachmann on the other hand has, again to my mind that elusive ‘rightness’. Would definitely have a Heljan version if the right model appears at the right price.

Looks ok to me from there.

I’ll wait for them to appear in the sales as well.

  6. Would like to see some more head on shots of some of the other liveries if someone has them as I’m still not totally convinced. The higher angled shot of the one in civils grey makes it look pretty good mind.

Don't think I ever knew of that one!

Turns out Hornby did it (R2235G) as 'Ellington Colliery', but due an overhaul I am sure and presenting in an orange box!!

Oh yeah, I never knew that. Just the forty year old tooling and not DCC.

Lots of mentions for 56036 in large logo (was it the first or was that 047?). How about it in trainload petroleum?

My wish would be for 37892 in petroleum sector livery. Lima did a version back in the 80s but I don't think anyone has modelled it since.

Or failing that, any of the other Ripple Lane heavies would be welcome. I think there were about a dozen operating from there in the early 1990s in sector livery, plenty to choose from!

    705 - 709 and 887 - 893.

    And I wholeheartedly agree.

I’ve said this before, but with 714 being done for The Heavy Tractor Group, it’s a simple change to do each of the relevant sectors.

And a Railfreight grey heavyweight as well please!

Out of interest, where were Railfreight red stripe refurb 31/1s mostly based?

They were everywhere in the late 80’s from what I remember, but based at Stratford, Bescot, Crewe, Tinsley, Immingham and Thornaby mainly…

If what I've been told is correct (and I have no reason to doubt my source) they still produce the same number of locos, but do half with one number and half with the other, so other than switching some of the tampo printing setup, there's a negligable impact on manufacturing slots.

It's why we've seen 'A' suffix runs of recent releases so close behind the initial releases in the last year or so, like the Farish 158s and 90s.

    Jo

    That makes sense. Thanks.

  11. I don’t quite understand the duplication of models in the same livery but different running numbers. If people want different running numbers they will just renumber them won’t they?!? Aren’t Bachmann utilising a manufacturing slot that could be better used to provide different liveries?

Fair play on the standard DCC price though. That is going toe to toe with Accurascale. Shame they didn’t do that with the class 37…

  12. You’d have to think the price will be somewhere on par with the recent class 37’s wouldn’t you? And therefore somewhat more expensive than the competition, even with the retailers discount. However, they will sell. Look at the class 37’s. There’s room for both, although for me, not at the full price and think there will be plenty discounted in due course. Let’s just hope there’s no duplication in running numbers as that would be annoying!

  13. It looks to be a great model and as has been mentioned, we’re all coming at this from the knowledge of what Accurascale have done….as are Bachmann. They’ve made the decision to carry on, so good luck to them and I look forward to possibly picking one or two up when they are heavily discounted in six months time or so!

Seems to have received an aerial by January '89

56074 "Kellingley Colliery" on Arpley Stabling Point

But had the beacon in November '88

    56074.

Yes, it was that image at Gloucester that I saw as well. We’ll assume December 88 then!

Might have to go for 077 in Railfreight Grey then. That suits all of my period.

  16. Getting jealous as well. I have two on order from Collets so hopefully Leigh can get them out to customers early next week.

I am wobbling though. Is two enough having seen the fantastic images?!?

Does anyone know when 074 lost its beacon and gained the NRN aerial? It seems to still have the beacon in late 1988. I run 87 - 89, so any help would be appreciated.

  17. Super stuff. I’m taking a lot of inspiration from your efforts and it is exactly the sort of thing I’m looking to achieve when I start laying track and wiring in a few months time for my 87 - 89 inspired layout.
