  1. While watching the following video about railway development in Sheffield in the mid 1960's on You Tube 'Vintage railway film - Freight and a city - 1966' at around the 3minute 15 second point it shows a short clip where strip coils are being loaded onto plate wagons with 3 cradles pointing eye to the wagon end. As you can see from the attached snip they are labelled as Coil D but I haven't found any reference to them anywhere before. The train (as shown in the second snip) was apparently a daily block train run to Birmingham and in the film is hauled by two class 31's. Can anyone shed any light on these conversions please? Ideally when they were modified and or disposed of and were they used anywhere else. Thank you
  2. A recent addition to the Rail Online site has a picture of Stanier LMS class 5 2-6-0 No 42952 waiting for the road with a Leeds Copley Hill to Liverpool goods train in c1953, the leading wagon is a 6 wheel tanker for Globe Glucose and owned by Brown and Polson. The livery is a light coloured upper and a dark coloured lower half with contrasting coloured lettering. Can any one shed any light on this wagon, such as its actual colour, how many were there and where did they operate. Thanks Paul
  3. Hi Bob Frustratingly I can't now find it but while looking for this information I found a picture taken at Cohens of I think D8200 with the end numbers still present above a small yellow panel. Paul
  4. Thank you for this, especially the fact that it wasn't necessarily on both ends. Paul
  5. I wish I could find it but I have a book somewhere with a picture of an ex GWR coach in the formation leaving King's Lynn and there were some Bullied coaches transferred to the East Anglian area as again I have somewhere a photo of one or two at Cambridge. The Middleton Press books of the area contain loads of useful pictures, especially as so many photographers preferred to photo passenger rather than freight trains.
  6. I am about to paint a couple of 3mm Scale class 15's and noticed when trawling through photos for details that at least four of them had their numbers painted on their bonnets, D8200, D8202, D8204 and D8205. Can anyone tell me when and where this was applied and if these were the only four or did some of the others get them as well? Many thanks Paul
  7. Hi I am detailing a couple of 3mm scale class 03 shunters and am ready to paint the interior of the cab. From what I can see from photographs the cab above window height appears to be cream and I am fairly certain the instrument panel is black but was the desk black or green and did the cream extend to the floor? If there is a difference between Swindon built and Doncaster built loco's mine are from the early Swindon batch with a conical exhaust. Many thanks in advance Paul
  8. Many thanks for the link, I had found this earlier which is what prompted me to join RM Web to try and find when the colour change took place. Regards Paul
  9. I have just joined this group having picked up a couple of threads on these wagons relating to the 4mm versions from Triang and Hornby which I found very interesting but didn't have an answer to one of my questions. Although my interest is the 3mm Triang version to which I am going to fit the correct bogies I am keen to know when the livery changed from red to blue as this is something I haven't been able to establish. I have a copy of the Skinley drawing for them which says they are red but this has the earlier livery where the ICI lettering is very large whilst the Triang wagon although still red, features the lettering and insignia found on the later blue livery, can anyone help please. Many thanks in anticipation Paul
