  1. When coming north the Edinburgh portion is on the back when leaving Euston. At Carstairs another locomotive just drops onto the rear of the train and works the train through to Edinburgh. This year I have had both class 90 and 92 working the Edinburgh portion from Carstairs. The southbound train has done exactly as stated in the post above.
  2. In October 1981 at least 011, 008, 002 and 015 worked from York to Liverpool. The turn was the 0849 from York and the 1305 back. Having done this turn with 015 on 22/10 Tulyar promptly went back with the 1550 from York and returned with the 2040 from Liverpool. Made even more memorable as 55013 also departed York at 1550 (to Kings Cross)and they ran together as far as Chaloners Whin. On 20/10/1981 I travelled from York to Leeds with 55008 on the on the 1350 York - Liverpool and came back from Leeds with 55002 on the 1305 from Liverpool. I was told that the 0849 / 1305 turn was generally on a Thursday for whichever of the 4 nominated Deltics was going to work the railtour on the Saturday - dont know if that was true or not but seemed to work in practice. You can add 004 to the list as I recall it was failed at Liverpool and dumped at Lime Street until it could be returned to York. These are the ones I saw - I'm sure there are more.
  3. Had a few runs between Sheffield Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly in 68 and 69 - most definitely remember the 5(ish) coach rakes and the colour combinations, especially the green Mk 1's although I dont recall seeing more than one in a rake. Great stuff.
  4. Dont know if this will help but did a tour on 2/12/78 with 40106 where we had 76030 as pilot from Guide Bridge to Rotherwood. Tour started at Crewe, I recall a photostop at Penistone in rather a lot of snow, the 40 was providing steam heat - at least over Woodhead.

    Heljan class 17

I have two that were returned (on 23/5 2009 !) to where I purchased them - they are believed to be still awaiting for the new chassis to arrive. I know of at least 1 other person who is also waiting for the same shop to sort his model. I ring up periodically but it needs a dedicated journey as its about 80 miles away. In recent times I am being told that it should be anytime now.
  6. If its of any use I can offer the following; a day return from Sheffield to Glasgow, 18th January 1977. 45103 (0124 seems to ring a bell but not 100% sure)Sheffield to Leeds, 45012 forward to Glasgow. The train was the 2130 St Pancras - Glasgow Central, presumably dual heat stock, cannot recall the EH but do recall the leaking steam. Returned south on the 1610 to Leeds, steaming with 45016. Also involved 40049 to Perth, 40166 to Edinburgh for a couple of runs with tnt 27's. A particularly pleasant memory for me. GKPC
  7. Russell, great stuff, as per usual. Did we eventually come up with a definitive list of paint schemes for all 193 ? Dont suppose your research moved into the realm of dmu's in Bsyp with white domes - there seems to have been quite a lot done in this livery. Thanks, Chris (GKPC)
