  1. I've read about a few issues in regard to the foam, and I have had items of my own damaged by bubble rap in the past unfortunately. something I am looking into is buying a bulk pack of acid free tissue paper used in museum item conservation to line any foam trays that the stock goes into. this should then alleviate any contamination issues. it should also make it less likely or any detail to catch in the foam. the items could go into storage for a while until i can hopefully have a place with enough space to rebuild the layout again. David
  2. I am looking for a supplier of foam inserts suitable for 00 gauge stock. I'm hoping to find somewhere that is reasonably priced, and buyable in bulk. I have inherited a large collection that has been amassed over the last 50 years, and as such many of the older items no longer have boxes as they have spent their life on a large layout, but this is going to have to be dismantled unfortunately. Stock Numbers: locos 100+ coaches 100+ wagons 200-300 Do people have any recommendations, including places I could bulk buy suitable foam. Thank you David
  3. I'm looking at replacing my current Metcalfe signal box with something with a bit more detail. I'm trying to source kits in n gauge that would be suitable for the eastern region, and i am struggling to find anything suitable. Does anyone know of anything? I'm happy to kit bash to make something of an appropriate size. Thanks David
  4. Thankyou everyone for the suggestions and the link to the images. i think i will look into the 21T wagons, but as suggested by Caledonian ill stick to grey with liberal rust, get my weathering skills going again. Just one final question, would the NCB have used Brake Vans, and if so what style would they have used?
  5. I have a 1960's NE NCB shunter on order from the n gauge society, and am looking into some suitable wagons to run with it. Would the Dapol 21T hopper wagons repainted into the red oxide be suitable? Thanks David
  6. Hi All I recently brought a second hand chassis off eBay as a non runner to use for a kit build project. unfortunate the wheels and rods have been split repeatedly by the previous owner and the rods damaged to such a point that i cant get the chassis to run properly (front wheels have a tendency not to go in same direction as driven set.) i am finding it very difficult to obtain spares for this model, would anyone be able to help. Thank you David
  7. Glad you got it sorted, they do some weird and wonderful things sometimes. David
  8. Hi Adrian you may have to clear it on the programming track, as above my chips would not react on the running lines for some reason, and then only by performing a hard reset. David
  9. Hi Steven Thanks for the suggestion of the BEMF turn off, i will give this a go and see how it affects it. the loco i tried it on was an old style farish china Jinty, so a similar age of model. David
  10. Hi All I have an old style Farish Split Chassis Deltic that i have just converted to DCC. the motor barely runs forward and wont run in reverse at all, just had a new motor as old one has been playing up. motor runs when disconnected from chassis and on analogue. Chip connected to another loco whilst still picking up from the Deltic chassis sat on a rolling road, works fine. both bogies appear to roll freely. The chip is a Zimo 616 decoder. has anyone experienced this before, and if so how did you fix it. David
  11. Thankyou I have used this before but couldn't find it this time, ill have another go using this tutorial. David
  12. Hi All Does anyone have any experience with tuning a Dapol N gauge terrier fitted with a DCX76 Chip, im really struggling with this one to find a set of numbers on CV's 9,51, & 52 that will allow it to run nice and smoothly. i occasionally get close & then it goes completely the other way again. I currently have: CV9 155 CV52 40 CV51 80 This gives ok running but not great, these are the only ones i have changed. Thanks David
  13. Thankyou for the information, ill take a look to see if there's anything on there that could help with scaling one down David
  14. Just thought id re bump this to have another attempt at sourcing information. Thanks David
  15. Hi Im looking at modelling a cenotaph coal tower based on the one at Peterborough New England Shed, or similar ones. im struggling to find details with dimensions and sizes that i can use to reproduce one in N gauge, and i dont believe there are any kits or models available (other than the Farish which isn't really correct, as well as being horrifically expensive). If anyone has any information, or knows where i can find some it would be a great help. Thanks David
