That's absolutely fantastic modelling! Captures the presence of the full size ones perfectly.
Thank you for your comment.

Just about done apart from a coat of varnish and wiring up the electrics. Will have two decoders one for traction wheels and one for the rack. Oh nearly forgot I'll need to build some track as well.

I've been using an Aoyue 937 for some years now. Available on Ebay at a very reasonable price with an extensive range of bits. Used mainly for 0 gauge.
Recommended.

Graphite works very well and despite arguments otherwise does not induce slipping with properly weighted locomotives.

This looks as if the operators are going to need some intensive training before York.

Look for Wera hex screwdrivers. Hard to find the smaller sizes and not cheap but worth every penny.

I would add the Maunsell re-builds of the LBSCR Baltic Tanks - the N15X 4-6-0 to this list.
Kind regards,

Also LSWR C14.
Generally trailing return cranks imply inside admission usually with slide valves. Piston valves are generally outside admission.

PPD do have a minimum sheet size of 290 x 135mm so you may need to rearrange your A5 sheet.
Don't get hooked on paper sizes when designing for etching.

Look at PPD Ltd up in Lochgilphead. I pay less than that but expect to pay up front.
Cheaper but not a cheap option.
I have been using them for many years and am very happy with their service.

Are the books leaning on the shelf or is the shelf graded to match the loco? That image is messing with my eyes! Love the build, hope to see it running one day.
The slope on the books probably reflects another of my interests. Note the titles and some of the places I've been are that steep

Getting there now. Very gaudy from the paint shop but it will only get worse as the lining is bright yellow

I like parmos and schnitties. Middlesborough is well known for Parmo availability inthe UK.
Prefer mine with salad and fries.
Good news is..Baz is getting better. Viral infection is root cause!
Great!
BUT fluid around my heart needs to be drained (nope not the blood stuff!).
That will be done tomorrow.. all being well. Senior doctors and junior doctors are on strike but they are still here in Cardio. One patient visited by a professor this morning. Fascinating listeneng to him mentoring a couple of junior doctors. Very good delivery and approach.
Guy next door to me is to receive a pacemaker. He sees no reason to stop smoking 20+ cigarettes a day...give me strength! But,as he has breathing problems he will have to wait until next week for his op.
Time for lunch methinks!
As an aside, inthe North East some councillors became "life time professional" councillors. Generations followed that path to a cushy living. Eventually the brighter locals twigged that they weren't interested in anything but themselves. Giant clear out occurred.. Good!
Baz
That fluid is probably Laphraoigh.

Notice you have some transfers for @Nicktoix old model of Windermere. The unloading point for the Elterwater gun powder wagons was next door to the engine shed ash pit.
Baz
And tha wagons horse drawn from Langdale with wheels and horse shoes wrapped in sacking.
Different kind of 'elf and safety

Sorry that was b******cks about the crosshead.
Looking at the ga the slidebars are a tubular arrangement more like traction engines than locos. Use a piece of tube with flanges soldered on each end and the sides filed down. Build crosshead up of back and front etches with spacers at the edges. File to fit the tube. Of course if you have a lathe just turn them.

Having just built a C14 with basically the same valve gear but a longer con-rod and eccentric rod. You will have no problem with etches. I etched mine in 15thou nickel along with the rest of the body. Neither do I see a problem with an etched return crank. The crosshead can an etch folded over the sidebar and a suitable spacing piece soldered underneath. The lot is held together with pins 0.6mmm diameter with a 1.5mm head filled flat.
For wheels I would get spoked drivers from Slaters, cut out some of the spokes and fit an etched overlay, filling the back of the wheel with Miilput.
I agree that you will need to drive both axles.

Looks great, but those prominent springs would be much better with white-metal or 3D-printed replacements. (Yes, I'm being picky!)
However when the footplate and splashes are fitted only the "ears" show.
Just off the printer is a 7mm version.

Don't waste your money. For another £30 or so you can get a proper tool from GW.

Midland Spinner
in Weathering, Painting & Transfers
Posted
To your eyes it is correct and that is fine .
But I doubt there is anyone alive today who has seen Midland loco straight out of the works and could define its colour. Colour perception and memory is poor. Light conditions, weathering and fading of colour make a huge difference.
I had a friend, a professional mountain artist, who couldn't always finish paintings on the hill. She made colour swatches before she started so that she had references to work from. Sadly she is no longer with us but I do own two of her paintings.
