Has anyone else experienced problems trying to pre-order one of these ?

I just preordered no. 10 successfully, though have been registered on the site for a while. Maybe register first then preorder?

  2. Great to see another post on this layout, really enjoyed it on here and YouTube. I did wonder if the Hornby 110 DMU would run round these curves, looks like the answer is yes!

Don't suppose you've tried one of the new Hornby Terriers round there? The old ones are fine, nice deep flanges and lots of sideplay, but the new versions look like they might be a bit fussier.

  3. I did 7.5" curves on my Christmas display, with a cardboard template on the inside, pva glue and a few nails tapped in round the outside. One end was perfect but I did get a bit of a point at the other that probably reduced the radius to about 6". Thankfully not a problem for the Bachmann tram I was using.

Next time I'd use far more nails, or pins, and put the template round the outside of the curve. I'd also pre bent the track first, not with a rail bender, just bending it flat on the table till it didn't want to go straight anymore.

  4. Really enjoying this and looking forward to seeing the scenery develop. There's something about small continuous layouts I really like - maybe memories of childhood trainsets. I'm putting together a Christmas display on a 60cm by 50cm offcut of ply. The curves are around 19cm radius over track centres. It's designed for a Bachmann On30 tram, but I had to find out what else would run besides the obvious 0-4-0 s.

Amazingly, provided there's only one coupling hook, preferably on the inside of the bend, the old Hornby Terriers (ex Dapol) are fine. Even more so, the Hornby 0-6-0 s with the semi flangeless centre wheels seem to work, though I suspect they're right on the limit.  Apologies for Thomas, its the only example we have!

  5. I'm also a big fan of Ian's layout, my favourites being Newcastle Haymarket and Victoria Park, both of which I've been lucky enough to see. I'm intrigued by the curved version of Haymarket that was teased in the November 2020 Railway Modeller. I've waited patiently for this to appear, to no avail. Anyone know if its been featured or appeared anywhere and I've missed it?

  6. Saw these today too and I have to say I'm really impressed. I've spent the best part of forty years trundling up and down shelves due to lack of space, but I really want a tail chaser for a change. Tried N gauge, didn't get on with it, having been able to handle these today they really do seem a step up size wise. Plan to treat myself to a set and see how it goes.
